I downloaded the initiation station last night - good thing as I don't want to waste time creating a character when I get the game in-hand. I can tell the graphics are going to look nice in this game and reviews point to absolutely no filler which is a good thing.

Re: Saints Row: The Third

Quick question for that that played the first Saints Row. I started playing it recently and am about 10 or so hours in. I hear it can be pretty long even without doing everything and I just wondered is it worth continuing if I am bored with it already. I love open world stuff but I guess this being an older game, it just isn't holding my attention that well. Does it get better and is it more of the GTA III clone it appears to be.

I have heard SR2 is much better but I am not sure if I will be missing much if I just jump on to that.

I played 2 before 1...and I loved 2.

I am not sure if I found the beginning of 1 slow or not....so I can't tell you if you will enjoy it more...I know 1 is not near as good as 2, but I don't think I was ever bored by it..

1 was good but 2 is outstanding. I'd skip the rest of 1 and go right to 2.

This is appears to be a Steamworks game. I think I might pass on the console version and pick it up on Steam once it goes on inevitable sale for a relatively cheap price.

Well it turns out Green Man Gaming is selling it for $39.99 and has a 15% off Code : PERFE-CTPRE-ORDER that will drop the pre-order price of this Steamworks game to ~$34. And you get those pre-order bonuses, per their site. That's hard for me to pass on. I've preordered Deus Ex HR from them this summer and everything went perfectly and the game is now on my Steam account.

I'm quite pleased with my created character's Ric Flair and Three Amigos taunts.

I d/l the Initiation content last night... so the character you create goes right into the game? Nice.

Yes, SR2 is a much better game than 1. The first one, to me anyway, was just a tired GTA clone with none of the personality. With part 2 they began taking things to such extremes that it really amped up the fun factor. It's like GTA on crystal meth. Part 3 looks like they went over the top and just kept going (which is a good thing :) ) The guys at Volition must be dropping some serious acid...

I don't know if you guys got your character to save or not. I spent about an hour on my character only for it not to save or upload to the servers.

Not exactly a negative review, but also not the most glowing review either.
Still, it doesn't make me want the game any less.

Sounds like someone doesn't have a sense of humor. That's cool, he can stick with GTA which has gotten tired as of late.

When I was picking up Skyrim yesterday some guy was going on and on in line about how awesome it is, and I told him I'm looking forward to Saint's Row more than anything...dude started laughing at me and telling me SR is terrible because it's so unrealistic. :whofart:

Because of their opinion? Right or wrong, I think it's a good review because they cover all the bases and back up their opinions, however much I might disagree. Though GT is usually pretty spot-on with their reviews, I think.

Should have told him Skyrim sucks because it's boring.

No, it sucks because like glassdragon said, it appears he has no sense of humor. The wrong guy for the review.

Oh and Skyrim is not boring, but it's no more realistic than Saints Row

You can have a sense of humor and still find juvenile nonsense tedious.

Re: Saints Row: The Third

Many high profile games have gotten so serious, so "epic", with such ponderous and heavy storylines, that I'm quite fine with some massively overthetop insanity and juvenilia every now and then. I get enough reality in reality right now, I want to turn the chaos meter to 12 and wreak havoc.

I won't argue that it might get tedious after some time, or at the very least, it will likely lose its novelty (since that is the definition of novelty), but I'm still looking forward to it.

Humor is tough to review since it's so subjective. To some people Woody Allen is the peak of comedy, to others, Trey Parker and Matt Stone. (It's actually somewhat odd I'm interested in SR3 since I prefer Allen to P&S, other than Cannibal!).
Maybe they should have said "if you liked the tone of SR2, SR3 is even more of it" rather than saying it was bad because he didn't like it.

My only current qualm is that OXM says the game is only about 16-20 hours long. I'm pretty sure I put 40 or so into GTAIV before quitting. Then again, I've only got about 22 hours in SR2, with 58% complete (although I think I'm in the last story mission). Of course, i also didn't pay 60 bucks for it.

Is the best 360 deal on this currently the Genki pack + 10$ GC from Amazon?

Re: Saints Row: The Third

I'm thinking about cancelling my Amazon pre-order and getting this and another title for a buy 1 get 1 half off this week at Kmart. My only concern is if the dlc codes will be in the first batch of released copies or if they will only be released by some other method. I really want that human launcher.

dsa_shea 11-13-11 06:18 PM

Re: Saints Row: The Third

According the the Kmart Gamer blog they will not have the pre-order content codes included with their copies. I still think I'm going to get it from there despite that because of the buy 1 get 1 half off with Assassins Creed Revelations and Saints Row The Third both being in that list.

I have a TRU GC from Skyrim last week, so planned on getting it there anyways, but now I see on Tuesday only they're giving a $10 GC + game guide.

This is a really good deal and very tempting. I have to decide between this and buy one get half off another at Kmart.
