Did you try the other ending? It was much better, IMHO.

Also
Spoiler:
I had no issues with letting Shaundi die, because I really didn't connect with her in this game. She just came off like a mega-bitch. I liked the character way better in SR2

Haven't tried it yet.
Spoiler:
I didn't connect with her either but I didn't get the mega bitch vibe. But then I barely ever called her to help. I honestly only saved her cos of the mayor. That and Killbane seemed like an impersonal villain to everyone except Viola and Angel.

That said, I was upset when
Spoiler:
Johnny Gat bit it so early and didn't even get a death scene. He seemed like he could have been cool.

I looked up the character online and saw that he was a badass and a fan favorite in SR and SR2. I also found it interesting that apparently he was meant to join the Syndicate because he felt the Saints got too soft. I recall him even making a comment to that effect in the opening heist. They should have stuck with that since I think he would have made a badass villain.

Yeah
Spoiler:
Gat's death was terribly handled and I kept expecting him to come back. I never played the first SR (don't have an xbox), but I liked him in SR2

What's worse is that
Spoiler:
the man responsible gets offed really early. And one of the DeWinter sisters joins you with barely any fuss. Given how SHaundi seemed to take Gat's death really hard (where they an item in SR2?), I'm surprised she and Viola never threw down at some point.

It just came across as if Gat's death was barely important when it should have been treated as a huge turning point.

By the way, looking at the gameplay videos of SR2, there seems to be a ton of side stuff you can do in that game. Why was none of that replicated in this game?

Shaundi and Johnny Gat were not an item in SR2. Shaundi was actually a pothead and kind of a ho in SR2. She was basically a completely different character in SR3, which is why I didn't care for her. That said Gat, Shaundi, and The Boss went thru a lot together in SR2, so I can see why she would take it hard. The Boss is basically an unrepentant psychopath though, so I can see why he/she wouldn't take it as hard.

There definitely was more to do in SR2, but a lot of the "activites" were repeated in SR3. A few were left out, MMA being probably the most notable. Also SR2 forced you to do the activites moreso than this one does. You actually had to do activities to build up your respect meter to a certain point before it would let you do the next story mission, which was kind of annoying at times.

Re: Saints Row: The Third

I just started the alternate path and it's obviously the cannon ending.
Spoiler:
After you finish off Killbane (anti-climactic fight, by the way), it concludes like any other mission. Whereas when I saved Shaundi it jumped right to the "Gangstas In Space" mission with no breaks in between.

Another clue is during the opening cinematic for the Threeway mission when the boss says she (in my case the boss is a she) is done with the Saints being corporate whores. That's exactly what they continue being when you pick the save Shaundi option.

Anyhoo, off to beat the alternate mission path.

FInally finished the
Spoiler:
Killbane
mission path. Glad I left it for last as it indeed is the more satisfying of the two paths. ABsolutely loved how it ended (even if the ending scene was rather brief) and it really left me wanting to tackle SR4 already.

It's a shame they didn't include a Game+ option as I would love to wreak havock during all the missions with my level 50 character.

I never played the first two but just wrapped up the main campaign of the third. That was both awesome and absolutely nuts. Are the first two worth playing?

Two definitely is. The first I've never played as I don't own an Xbox.

Two is kind of fun after playing the third one. When you play in that order, the 2nd seems like one of those direct to video sequels for a big budget movie you really love.

But man that game has some weird tonal shifts in it. Do not expect the wacky happy fun time you had in The Third.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm gonna stick with the Third's expansion packs until the fourth one arrives.

Re: Saints Row: The Third

I'm new to the Saints Row franchise, having played through Saints Row 1 & 2 over the last couple months. I just started the 3rd game, been playing for an hour or so. Is it just me or is the map a WHOLE lot smaller than the 2 previous games? So far there seems to be less of everything. Smaller map, fewer activities and shops, etc.

Surprise remaster on May 22nd!

Re: Saints Row: The Third

The remaster has been remastered! Free Xbox Series / PS5 upgrade coming next week.

Excellent news has just dropped, Saints! On May 25, Saints Row: The Third Remastered will bring the mayhem to Xbox Series X | S and PlayStation 5. This version will also be free to all current owners of the game, and will equal the ultra settings on PC.

Improvements made to the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 version include a framerate boost to 60 FPS and dynamic 4K resolution, whilst Xbox Series X players can choose between Performance (60 FPS 1080p) and beauty (30FPS, 4K) modes. Of course this version will also take advantage of the SSDs in the new consoles to serve much faster loading times. Plus, by popular request, we have added Saints Purple to the glow colour on the DualSense controller.

To add to the Saints news, we can confirm that Saints Row: The Third Remastered will be available on Good Old Games on May 22, launching alongside the Steam version.
(I think the performance/beauty mode is a typo and is meant to reference the Series S.)

Great. Now get to work on SR5.

Or remaster the first 2 games that have never been remastered.

They have been. Volition's parent company said in 2019 that it was "deep in development" and apparently started as soon as Agents of Mayhem dropped in 2017. I've gotta think that we'll see it in one of the E3-style presentations next month.
