Re: Dead Island
Well I stopped by GS, cancelled my Gears 3 reserved copy and used the money to get Dead Island. I'll pick Gears 3 up off Amazon for tha $20 credit. I went on my friends list an sure enough all three picked the game up. So if anyone is needing some co-op players add me to your list. From what I've heard the co-op play is not going to be a cakewalk.

Re: Dead Island
I'm loving the game so far, and I agree...while I loved me some Dead Rising, this doesn't have that "hokey" feel to it.
|
Re: Dead Island
LOL!
First I was relieved that the game was full of bugs because I didn't get it. Then I started users reviews and the positive reviews say that this game is really amazing. And of course is a love fest here. Now I'm desperate to get the game :( |
Re: Dead Island
I just wish my local Kmart actually knew how to stock items....

Re: Dead Island
I think I'm about 8 hours in and have barely made a dent in Act II. The amount of side quests is amazing. I have to say I'm loving it and the 9ish review scores seem about right so far and unless it falls off dramatically this is a great game. If it would have come out during the drought of the summer gaming I think everyone would be talking about it.

Re: Dead Island
If it came out in summer it would have had even more day-one-patch-bugs-to-fix. Then your 9s would have been 7s and everyone would have said it needed another month or two.
|
Re: Dead Island
They should have saved it for next summer and worked on fixing it in the meantime. ;)

Great Gaming Summer EVAR!!1!

Holy screen tearing batman.

Re: Dead Island
I'm amazed at how open this game is. Whoever called it Fallout 3 with zombies was really close. I love how you can choose your own path to objectives. And either go balls out combat or simply sneak your way around. Very impressed.

Stop making me want this!:mad:
More talk about the flaws, please. |
Re: Dead Island
This game is a Blast!!! This is what I wished Dead Rising and Left 4 Dead was. Combat is so much fun. I love getting behind a zombie as they are getting up kicking them in the butt causing them to either fall into a pool, fall down the stairs or fall down a hill. Combat is just so rewarding.
Plus this game is HUGE. So much to do and so many quests. The island feels like a real place as well, feels very natural. This game is dangerously addicting. |
Re: Dead Island
Any try Co-Op yet?
I wonder, if I do Co-Op, will my partner who picks up stuff also register for me? i.e. we dont fight over who gets the cash/items from completing a quest. |
Re: Dead Island
I got to play for about three hours last night...single player only. I'm only at the 8% complete mark so that tells you there's far more to go This is my first impressions just for up to this point.
Storyline...still have more to take in but there does appear to be one. Open World...There is a open world and not some tight streamline of limited play. Think Borderlands but a bit more confined. This is good Controls & Button...a bit odd of the button mapping and even after three hours i found myself hitting the wrong ones. You're limited to three setups to choose from. For now I've got two weapon choices but much later you can unlock 6-8. The switching part is a bit annoying. You have to use the joystick to toggle and not use a simple button for like next choice which would come in handy in a big fight. Graphics...actually pretty good but it's not COD, Gears or Battlefield. But for fans of Zombies games of past the open area, daytime, beach, water, sand it's does pretty well and a good change from that dark night time play. I like it... Gameplay Itself...I think the term "Left4Dead on steroids" is fitting as well as "Left4dead meets Borderlands with a touch of Fallout". Not just a hack &slash of button smashing but you do have to actually think, plot and worry about a few things. You not only have "stanima" you have to worry about but how long your weapon last which is not forever. But your weapons are not "free" for the taking. Everything costs something and money can be found in suitcases to pockets of zombies and you need plenty. In fact you need plenty of everything laying around as it will come in handy. A nice part and a 'borderland' twist is the "Skill Tree" where you have Fury, Combat and Survival to add points to. Almost taken out of the Borderlands "mods" you issued to your character. So you can taylor your character to whatever. Very nice part here. You also are able to taylor your weapons but you have to find the abilities first like a "Nail Mod" for nails in a bat. You can also keep your favorite weapon but need a "bench" to repair and upgrade...of course at a price. Another nice twist to make you think a bit. Like "Borderlands" as well you have a sort of primary mission but several side quests for other survivors to do. go get this item out that place or find someone or get some part for the truck which you get rewarded. You also have a choice and tells you the difficulty of the mission. Another nice part. I'm looking forward to co-op and speaking of which one really nice feature they did is...while you're playing it'll tell you if someone else is close by who is probably on the same level so you can join as well. And they'll be highlighted on the map. On the other hand if you want to join some in a coop game and they're way ahead level wise it'll warn you about it doing something to the storyline and the difficulty. Off the bat ...for now...I'll give it about a 8.7/10. It may change later on or at least till I play coop. By the way in case someone does need a coop buddy I'm at the Lifeguard Tower and level 4. |
Re: Dead Island
Gizmo, in co-op, XP is shared but items are not. That's the idea of co-op, lol. If you get to a work bench and need 2 rags and you don't have them, you'd hope whoever you are playing with would voluntarily trade them to you.
XP = Shared, Items = Not Shared I'd say there are so many things to pick up though, you will never be really "fighting" to grab items. |

Re: Dead Island
Any deals on this one? I looked at Amazon and it has gohastings as the seller on the page, for $63.99 (other sellers list Amazon at $59.99 - wierd) and it has a trade in value of $13.50. I will double that price for anyone that wants to sell their copy now. :)

I think the right shoulder button (at least on 360) changes weapons on the fly. Not CoD, Gears, or Battlefield? But what about Halo? There's plenty of other games to compare it to without using the same old FPS. The "skill tree from Borderlands" was taken directly from WoW. That's where Borderlands got it from. The weapon mods were taken from Dead Rising 2. Some (like the Nail mod) were exactly the same. Anyway, I am level 10 now. Taking my time, and killing zombies. Oh and Thugs are scary dudes. I actually ran into a regular human that attacked me, too. One thing I do like is that when weapons break, they just get weaker. They don't actually break and disappear like Dead Rising. |
Re: Dead Island
I swear, you'd think Borderlands was the most original game ever if this forum was the only place you visit. There isn't a single game that isn't compared to it here.
Also, there have been a ton of games with "skill trees" before WoW, although I think one of the first was Diablo, which both Borderlands and Dead Island (and a billion other games) borrow many things from. |

Re: Dead Island
I'm tempted to get this... but I hated DR2. I'd hate to get this and then feel like it's DR2 but on steroids.
PS - I've never played Borderlands (I know, I suck). |

PS - I've never played Borderlands (I know, I suck). I've only played Dead Island for one hour, compared to completing the main story (?) in L4D and around 6-8 hours in DR2, and this game is better. Someone here said that it was more realistic, and I laughed, and then I played the game and I agreed with him. Since right now I'm playing Gears of War 2 in the Xbox 360, trying to get some achievements, and I'm going to be playing Gears 3 when it's released, I got this game for the PC. $39 (digital download) from Amazon, it's actually a Steam download. That way I can play Dead Island during the day in my breaks from work. ;) I've played for only one hour but I've doing a lot of testing, you know how it's playing in the PC, changing settings, resolution, high detail, trying the keyboard, trying the Xbox pad, etc. |
