Re: Official PSP2 Thread

I imagine it's "vee-ta", as in Sony Music recording artist Ricky Martin's biggest hit : "Livin' La Vita Loca". Though since there's been no official announcement, only a couple of printed blurbs, we may have to wait until E3 to know for sure.

It's better than Qriocity...that's about the best I can say for it. Then again, dumb names tend to sound less dumb with age - see "Wii" and "Kinect".

Re: Official PSP2 Thread

So, for those who missed it : It's officially named "Playstation Vita". It comes in two models, a Wifi for $249 and a 3G+ Wifi model that uses AT&T for $299. It's available for preorder at Amazon now. I already ordered one.

L&O, please change the thread title here. And it's stupid that the OP can't change the thread title himself, but that's another issue.

Regarding the 3G model -- is this like the Kindle where you get free 3G for life, or is there an additional subscription fee? The Amazon page doesn't say.

"Backwards compatibility (via download) of all PSP games". So you'd have to buy all your PSP games again through the playstation store?

Re: Official PSP2 Thread

So whats the internal storage? PSPGo has really babied me with downloading games and not physically carrying any around. Is this an option for Vita?

Re: Official PSP2 Thread

To answer both previous questions simultaniously, The Vita will use game carts with memory, not unlike a DS. There will be no optical memory. Games can also be purchased directly from the PSN store. The Vita won't play UMDs since it won't have an optical drive (clearly that was a major limitation on the PSP), but will play any PSP games, PS One Classics and videos that were purchased through the PSN store; it'll also provide dual-stick support and improved graphics on some.
There's been no official word on internal memory yet. At least there's only one model, so probably there will be some sort of memory card option to expand your memory capacity.

I'm curious about this as well. At first, I preordered the 3G model, but thinking it over, what are the uses for the 3G? Online play? Considering how my iphone 3G drops here and there, that could be dicey? Game downloads? The Go takes forever to download the existing PSP games, and you can probably do that at home over wifi...

Considering the amount of data that's used up for online gaming and full game downloads, there's no way ATT is going to eat the cost. I'd expect a standard data plan like a tablet.

Don't worry, they just put a usage cap for home internet users starting last month so I'm sure they have a way to make some money on this as well.

re: Official PS Vita / PlayStation TV Thread

Pre-ordered the wifi! Hope they announce some bonuses or bundle. Will sell off my phat PSP once my girlfriend finishes Kingdom Hearts and then will sell off the Go closer to release. Except for Kingdom Hearts all my games are digital now thanks to various sales and promos.

The 3G, as Noonan said, will definitely be like for the iPad. The question will be if the non-3G still has a GSM slot so you could put in your own chip, or if that's even accessible.

My big question is if the PS Vita will support multiple profiles on one device.

I went ahead and ordered the wifi version. I figure I'll get enough free games from doing reviews that it will cover the cost of the system.

I'd imagine they would. The PSP and PS3 do. No reason to think this would be otherwise.

What? The PSP does? How? My gf and I share one save on everything. Is there a way to have multiple saves by user?

re: Official PS Vita / PlayStation TV Thread

I jumped on the PSP at launch and probably only played a handful of games on the thing, actually finishing maybe two or three. So as much as I really want the Vita now, I'm not going to preorder or try and get it at launch. I'll wait until I see what actually launches with the system and what kind of reviews are coming out before buying.

However, I do a lot of traveling for work and it'd be nice to have something new to do to pass the time in the afternoons/evenings.

re: Official PS Vita / PlayStation TV Thread

Looking through Engadget, they talked to a Sony rep who said the 3G would be available through "something similar to a cellular plan," so I'm guessing there will be a monthly fee attached to the 3G version.

re: Official PS Vita / PlayStation TV Thread

Ladies and gentlemen, the PS Vita will more than likely be region-free!

http://psp.ign.com/articles/117/1174783p1.html

In a PlayStation Vita session for European and Australian press at E3 today, Michael Denny, Sony's Vice President of Sony Worldwide Studios Europe, confirmed that - to the best of his knowledge - Vita would be region free.
I love my 3DS, I'll be buying a ton of games for it, and I'm just as happy that the PSV is looking great as well!

That's nice, but the PSP was region free too. I think it's been common for any portable system to be region free.

Oops. Maybe you're right. I guess I've never shared my PSP, so I didn't realize that. This morning I tried to transfer a free mini I grabbed from my German account I got as part of the Vellkommen Back program and sure enough, it wouldn't transfer over.

re: Official PS Vita / PlayStation TV Thread

Hmmm, now that I think about it, you could say the PSP is not completely region free because of that user restriction. The UMDs were fine, and so should the flash cards for the PSV, but you may not be able to just visit the store for another territory and download a game without the local account. So, you'd have to hope it will support multiple users if you want to download your games.

But I wouldn't be surprised if the Sony guy who said the PSV is most likely region free was just referring to the physical media.

I thought the 3DS was region locked?
