The Workout/Moving Games Thread
I thought it'd be great to have a list, which I'll keep updated and compile these next few days. What games are out there and which ones do you own and like? Do they work, have you seen a difference?

We are thinknig of getting the Wii for the Fit and Zumba game, but I already have a ps3, How would I benefit from having the Wii board and the Wii controllers opposed to the Ps3 with the new move controllers and no board on the floor?

I agree, little red X in a box all the way.
I hear the PS3 version of Zumba and EA Sports Active is the best. That said, I've never used the Wii Balance Board.

We ended up with the Ps3 version.
Already ahd a ps3 so we only had to by the game the MOve and an eye.
About $140.
If we got yhe Wii it would have been $200 for Wii + $40 for game plus $90 for the board.
Mrs. Whotony seems to be happy with it since she's the one who wanted it.
I hate the music so I might get myself a different exorcise game.
Is that what EA sports active is?

I picked up Active 2 from Amazon after the holidays when the price dropped to under $50. It works pretty good. I set up a workout with a lot of the non-cardio exercises and then jump on my bike for a bit after. I'm happy with it for what I paid.

Yes, it's been a month, looks like there are 4 games mentioned here so far.

EA Active 2 is on sale for $19.99 for all three systems at TRU if you can find one with the game in stock still. I grabbed abLE3 and 360 version because I didn't know which version to get now. Heard the Kinect version was awful at launch, but then heard it was getting patched. Anyone have an opinion now?
If noting else, the heart rate monitor alone is worth $20, right?

I definitely prefer "2" over the original. I only wish they had included two of the arm bands so you didn't need to use the controller at all.

Re: The Workout/Moving Games Thread
Wii Fit Plus: Is the first one I tried so it is kind of the standard to compare things too. It is easy to get started w/ and the customization is nice , wish it would let you store multiple/different work outs though. The games keep you distracted from the fact your working out, but to be honest about all I use it for anymore is the body test feature. In the end while the work outs are good, and if you only pick one I would recommend this one, there's better/more effective ways to spend my work out time (both in the sense of the work out I'm doing and that I usually like to watch a movie/TV while working out and it's hard to do that and use the Wii at the same time
).EA Active and Active 2: I liked Active when I first tried it, it is a little more complicated to get it setup but I liked the fact you can incorporate other materials into it (work out bands for example, not the cheap plastic things they give you but something like the bodilastic bands). Well... kinda sorta incorporate them. Holding the controller and the band handles at the same time can be tricky. Also, the original seemed really sensitive to the orientation of the controllers and frankly didn't always register the moves. I've only tried "2" a couple of times now and the inclusion of the arm band/heart monitor is a nice touch. It seems a little move sensitive than the controllers w/ the first one were... I'm not too sure the heart monitor is really accurate though. Sometimes I think the motion of the arm during the exercise itself artificially inflates the heart rate. I haven't really put it to the test/compared it to another monitor though so I could be wrong. I hope to try the 29day series (or whatever the short one is) here soon, so hopefully after that I'll have a better feel for whether or not I like "2".
My Fitness Coach & 2: I bought the first one, created a profile and set it up, and frankly I haven't really used it again since. Can't really recall what I didn't like about it, but at the time I just ended up going back to Wii Fit+. There was nothing really there that attracted me to it, I mean I guess the nutrition advice is a nice touch, but w/o a printer you're going to be doing a lot of copying things down if you actually want to try any of what they recommend. I rented MFC2 and I remember liking that more than the original, but again there was nothing really there that I couldn't get elsewhere so I never bothered buying it.
Gold's Gym Cardio Boxing: This, along w/ the Fit+ body test, is the only thing on the Wii I try to do on a daily basis. I usually use it as part of my warm up for my other (non computer game based) workout by doing at least 1000 punches. I either go through one of the routines or cut to the chase and work on the virtual "heavy" bag. I'm not sure it is really doing much for me fitness wise (aka I don't think just using this program is going to get you into shape, or teach you how to box
) but it does get the blood pumping so I can go on to other exercises after wards. Overall I found it an easy program to pick up and get started w/. There are only a couple of the exercises I don't use, unlike some of the others mentioned above which have a lot of ones I don't like (anything yoga wise I usually shy away from, even though I know I should mix some in...). It also has unlockables/rewards/achievements if you are into that sort of thing, I'm not really but I know some people are.

EA Active 2 for the PS3 is worth it, imo. It's a little awkward using all the straps that are included (Arm, Leg) but they work better than the Wii-mote or Kinect.
That said, EA really, really dropped the ball this time with regards to the Kinect version. Rumor has it as this month for the big update, but considering how bad this tanked, I'm not so sure.

Question about "Your Shape: Fitness Evolved" for the Kinect. What's the deal with the floor buttons? I go to step on them and they move away from me!

I picked the PS3 copy of EA Active 2 for $20 in TRU. It comes with three monitors, six AAA batteries, an exercise belt/tape and the game. Original price was $100, I believe the price has dropped to $60 now, but TRU is taking additional $40 off... Good buy IMO, no Move is required for the PS3.

Interesting thing about it though is that when they rang it up, it rung up for 59.99, just like at the other store. But at this store they clearly had a tag on the shelf with the sale price and dates, which actually stated that the price was good until the 26th. So they did a manual override and took off the 40 bucks.
