Re: SSX: Deadly Decents
The demo is on PSN now but you have to search for "SSX". Or maybe they updated it fully by the time someone reads this post and you won't have to do the search. But I'm downloading it now.

Re: SSX: Deadly Decents
I tried the 360 demo. Maybe it's because I was never the biggest SSX fan in the world, but I wasn't thrilled with it. It seems like a fine game, but when I was done with the demo, I wasn't itching for more.

Re: SSX: Deadly Decents
I really miss the crazy tracks, but that aside, the game does have a great sense of speed like SSX of old. I've totally lost my mojo though, as I suck at this game something terrible now.

Re: SSX: Deadly Decents
I wish there was more than 1 trick mountain in the demo. Not sure where the demo course ranks on the difficulty scale but it does seem more challenging to find a nice smooth line down the mountain as opposed to previous games. I keep getting funneled into the icy ravine. I love it regardless. Already had it pre-ordered.
I tried the Classic control scheme (PS3) at first but I wasn't able to rack up the points I can with the new layout. It feels much quicker to transition from trick to trick with the right analog stick, plus I seem to get a lot less duplicate tricks when I take the shoulder buttons out of the equation. |
Re: SSX: Deadly Decents
There are two runs in the demo. The trick run in the Rockies and a race in the New Zealand.
|
Re: SSX: Deadly Decents
It's too bad there's no multiplayer in the demo, but based on the description in the videos they are going with the TrackMania approach (you'll see other racers on the mountain at the same time as you, but you'll clip right through them since the it's really just a competition to see who can get the best time/score on the run).
I saw some framerate issues in the 360 version. Hopefully these are not present in the final game. |

It's been a couple years since I played an SSX game. So I don't remember if the previous versions were like this. I probably just need some practice. |
Re: SSX: Deadly Decents
IGN review is up. It sounds awesome, actually.

The feeble attempts of other, lesser snowboarding games’ attempt to capture the adrenaline fueled excitement of SSX don’t compare at all. This is what happens when you don’t just put the game out every year, but spend your time crafting it, creating the ultimate experience. SSX redefines snowboarding games, raises the bar for the genre, then backflips over it. . IGN Ratings for SSX (X360) 8.5 Presentation An awesome global menu system, customizable everything, and even some neat comic book stories for the characters. 9.0 Graphics The huge, diverse mountain ranges look great, every character is mad stylish and over the top. 8.5 Sound Eclectic and fun soundtrack from some of the industry’s hottest new electronic and rock names. Shame there’s not more voice acting. 9.0 Gameplay Over the top, insane snowboarding action that blows the doors off every other boarding game. 8.5 Lasting Appeal RiderNet and Global Events provide constant challenge, despite the lack of traditional multiplayer. 9.0 OVERALL Amazing |
Re: SSX: Deadly Decents
That video is just sick. Those night time drops looks loopy and awsome. Tuesday just can't come fast enough for me.

Re: SSX: Deadly Decents
Glad I pre-ordered and I gotta believe the controls are tighter in the real game compared to the demo. I could barely hit the giant ramps without carefully lining up my boarder let alone catching rails or thin crests. Game looks great --- hopefully this will be the one that pulls me away from MW3.

Re: SSX: Deadly Decents
Wow, that's a great review. I'm looking forward to picking it up on Tues.

Re: SSX: Deadly Decents
Can anyone tell me how the race selection and challenge navigation is like. Its not like the last one (and THPS4) where you have to board/skate around a mountain to meet people/points that give you the next race/challenge, is it?

Re: SSX: Deadly Decents
in the demo, you select the mountain, then select the event.

More reviews coming in at 8's and 9's (and one random 5 thrown in there). Looking good, picked it up today.

Re: SSX: Deadly Decents
It's looking deadly and better than decent.

Re: SSX: Deadly Decents
Played for about an hour or so.
The controls seem a bit tighter than in the demo. Or maybe I'm just getting the hang of it. But at least I'm able to hit some rails and ramps. I love that the whole world is open from the beginning. So you don't have to unlock each event. I hate when racing games make you spend hours progressing through the game before you get to the cool courses. One thing I really miss is the whole mountain experience in SSX3. I loved going from the top of the mountain all the way down through all the courses. It would take around 45+ minutes. That was a blast. |
Re: SSX: Deadly Decents
I rented this from Redbox, and I am enjoying the full game more than I did the demo. I'll still wait for a price drop, but it's a very good game.
