Re: SSX: Deadly Decents
I guess they had almost 4 months to retool things after the less than stellar announcement. I just wonder if they didn't just want to talk about the newer things they were doing to the series and left out the info that showed it was going to still be somewhat like the other games. After the exhausting Wii version I am more than ready to buy this on the 360.

Re: SSX: Deadly Decents
The video talked about members having previously worked on SSX 4. I don't remember there being an SSX 4. Was that a Wii or Game Cube only title?

I don't remember there being an SSX On Tour either. Was that a Nintendo-only game?

Re: SSX: Deadly Decents
Oh, okay. I Googled SSX 4 and came up with nothing but a dead IGN link and then some reference to this game. I suppose I totally missed SSX On Tour during the previous gen -- but it looks like I didn't miss much, I guess.
I still miss SSX Tricky. That game was awesome. |
Re: SSX: Deadly Decents
Seeing the Tricky trailer makes me want to go back and play it. Is it backwards compatible on the 360?
|
Re: SSX: Deadly Decents
I didn't think On Tour was that bad. I have it for PSP and still play it from time to time.

Re: SSX: Deadly Decents
Looks like this won't be out until early 2012. Playable demo at E3.
During EA's Season Opener event yesterday, SSX creative director Todd Batty revealed a launch window for the snowboarding revival: January 2012. The game will be playable at E3 in June, so expect a more detailed evaluation from us at that point. http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/13/ss...-january-2012/ |
Re: SSX: Deadly Decents
I thought it was going to be out sooner. I wonder if EA rebooted it after all the negative feedback. I didn't read or see anything that looked remotely familiar to SSX Tricky but I'm glad they're going back to that design.

Here's the 2nd and 3rd "Making Of..." videos:

I'm so glad they've moved away from that "COD On Snowboards" feeling from the first trailer. |

Re: SSX: Deadly Decents
Zero in game action... so it's hard to tell. But the trailer is cool.

Re: SSX: Deadly Decents
I've seen some gameplay footage from E3. But I wasn't able to find it on YouTube. I think I originally saw it on IGN.
Anyway, the video opened with a helicopter flying up to the side of a mountain and it was shades of 'Untracked' from the original SSX, which is still the greatest SSX map IMO, so I was all 'FUCK YEAH'. But as I watched I got less and less excited. The environment just didn't feel as organic and natural as SSX 1-3. For example, there are new rail objects in the game to grind on, but there are just these rock walls randomly thrown on the track. The walls are really long but maintain a constant height and width along the ground, if that makes sense. It just doesn't look real. There's also this really annoying effect whenever you land a big trick, there the game environment ripples around you with this obnoxious sound effect. It was happening every... single... time. Hopefully they get rid of that. I'm still excited for a new SSX game, but I haven't been thrilled with everything I've seen. I do really like the theme of the game though, and the visuals look great, as does a lot of track design, despite these crits. EDIT: Here is the gameplay vid:
More SSX Videos
After watching, it seems clearer now that the walls are part of some old Chinese pathway - makes more sense now. |
Re: SSX: Deadly Decents
So did they drop the Deadly Descents (or, as per the thread title, "Deadly Decents") subtitle?
|
Re: SSX: Deadly Decents
You're right - they need to tone down that explosion sound/ripple effect. Once a level on a massive jump, sure - but too often like that loses it's impact.

Re: SSX: Deadly Decents
Big demo from IGN today showing off lots of gameplay and a Q&A session with the developers. I must say this is looking better and better. And I'm happy to hear that slowdown and ripple effect will likely be removed in the final version.

New trailer looks good.

Re: SSX: Deadly Decents
I hope they bring back Run DMC for when you fill up the Tricky Meter.
|
Re: SSX: Deadly Decents
that new trailer takes itself way too seriously. What happened to the "fun" SSX game I want?
