Kinect: Your Shape Vs. Biggest Loser

We are getting a Kinect for x-mas and my wife wants an exercise game for it. I have read a ton of reviews for both of these (and the EA Active game which was definitely on the bottom of the pile review wise) and it appears that YS and BL were basically tied everywhere I look.

I know several of you probably have both of them and I would like to get you opinion on which is the best for what I want. I was trying to do this before the Amazon but one get one 50% goes away and needed something to pair with Dance Central.

My wife hates to workout but thinks this may get her motivated. I am more of a Tony Horton fan so I do mixes of of the P90X & his One on One videos every day. I did kind of want to get the title that would appeal to me as well as I would likely mix some workouts in with my regular stuff just for variety but it wouldn't be an every day thing for me.

Any good opinions or contrasts between the two that you guys have seen would be appreciated. Most reviews seem to say that BL is more structured but YS offers more variety. I did see that YS has already released some DLC which is pretty cool and could give you fresh workouts but I assume they will all be doing this soon.

Thanks!

Not to be a buzzkill, but I've found that if people hate to workout then video games won't motivate them. I'll count myself in the people that got a WiiFit and thought I was going to use it every day. "It'll get me motivated" but it never did and I went ahead doing my normal exercise stuff. Kinect/Move/WiiFit...these are not viable options for workout plans. Sooooooo...save 50 bucks and use the Kinect for fun.

I think Your Shape is probably the better overall product of the two, especially with the addition of downloadable workout plans.

I got burned by picking up EA Active 2 before the reviews were out

And to be fair, I haven't had a single issue. Active just seems really strict on the play area required and/or camera placement.

Even past the lousy face detection and on-screen mapping, having to disable voice controls to prevent jukebox popups and unintentional instructional videos, (for me) inaccurate heart rate monitor, terrible visuals and menu system, I'm still pissed I paid $75 for such a half-assed product, especially now that it's $60.

The menu system is awful and I will concede that it sucks that it's $60 a few short weeks after release. Kinda bullshit actually. Fortunately I used enough coupons to get it down to $40, but it would have been nice to use those on something else.

Your Shape definitely. Both myself and the wife like it. She likes doing the Thai Chi stuff.

Re: Kinect: Your Shape Vs. Biggest Loser

Your Shape between the two. I'd rather support Mens Fitness and Womens Fitness than a "reality" show, even one about getting fit. Plus I like the variety of content.

Dance Central is definitely a workout as well, but I just feel sillier "dancing".

I agree that Kinect or Wii Fit or whatever is not the same as going to a gym, but it's also not the same as just doing a DVD that provides no feedback and no progress tracking.

Re: Kinect: Your Shape Vs. Biggest Loser

It probably would never happen, but P90X for Kinect would be huge. I doubt they could do it since you would either need the most perfect setup ever (pull up bar visible from Kinect) or have to move the camera around, and even then you still might not be able to have a spot that works. Either that or they would have to modify the program.
