very cool. And it's budget friendly too!

Seems like quite a bit of empty disk space that could have easily been used for at least SMW.

pfft. I paid less than that for my SNES cartridge which included Super Mario World.

And that's the wrong pic for Mario - that's an 8-bit Mario, these are 16-bit versions of the games.

If it had SMW, I'd buy. Damn shame.

Pfft... whatev... found the promo image which also doesn't sport 16-bit Mario.

3D versions don't count.

Though it would've been cool if they could've included updated versions of the gameboy Mario games.

I think Super Mario's 25th anniversary deserves a more comprehensive collection. Give me all of the original Super Mario All-Stars contents, Super Mario World, Yoshi's Island, and Super Mario 64, throw in a video doc on the history of the Super Mario Bros. series and then I'd be excited.

I still have my SNES and the Super Mario All-Stars cartridge so I won't be getting this. This is a great way to introduce the young whippersnappers to 3 of the greatest games of all time.

Might pick this up, the price is friendly and even though I have it for SNES, it looks like a nice package.

Like it or not, those are part of the core franchise.

These games can't be played with just the Wii remote. Including these games would require the Classic controller to be bundled with the game and that would drive up the price.

I'd pay 50, 60 bucks for a deluxe edition with more games and a classic controller... plus I hate using the Wii remote as a controller.

I'd consider picking this up, even though I already own the All Stars SNES cartridge that includes Super Mario World.

The NES versions are $5 each, aren't they? And if they would have released this as a SNES download, it would only have been $8 total. Not sure how they came up with the $30 MSRP.

Michael Corvin 10-28-10 02:53 PM

Re: Super Mario All-Stars (US release - December) $29.99

4 games at $5 each: $20
Soundtrack CD: $2.50?
Booklet: $2.50?
Packaging & distribution: $5?

There was pretty much a 0% chance of the SNES All-Stars collection hitting the VC as one game.

Re: Super Mario All-Stars (US release - December) $29.99

I have them all on the VC already. I believe The Lost Levels was $6, but that's just nitpicking.

I'd be happier with this bundled with the 3DS launch, honestly.

Wait, is this a straight port (or emulation) of the 16-bit SMAS, or is it an update using the capabilities of the Wii? I'd disappointed if it wasn't an update.

Honestly, I'd consider a special Super Mario Anniversary edition of the Classic Controller to be more added value than the booklet or CD and would gladly pay $20+ more if it was included along with at least the Super NES and N64 games. Even though all the games don't require it, they all would benefit from it over using the Wiimote.

To piggy-back on my last post, here's what I wish this really was:

Super Mario Legacy Collection
- Super Mario Bros.
- Super Mario Bros. 2
- Super Mario Bros. 3
- Lost Levels
- Super Mario World
- Yoshi's Island
- Super Mario 64

** Bundled special Super Mario Anniversary edition of the classic controller (ala the red Anniversary system)
** The option to play each title with its original graphics or with updated Wii-maximized graphics
** Video documentary about the history of the Super Mario Bros. franchise
** Sure, throw in the booklet too

I'd pay $60 for that, especially if it came in an awesome-looking package.

You forgot the Super Mario Land games, which were pretty great.

The ones on VC are the original NES versions. The versions on Super Mario All-Stars had improved sprites and backgrounds. It's a great looking game, and I'll happily put it on my kid's xmas list just to play it through a component cable.
