Yeah, the first part DRAGGED on and it really picks up steam once you're out of the cut scene fest.

Emo-Samus at the beginning was just trying to suffocate my love for her.

Yep, some of those extended cut scenes made me want to throw up, but Adam hasn't yet authorized my ability to vomit.

I don't get it. The Wii is all about the controller. We forgive Wii games for not having HD graphics because the Wii allows us better control, and immersion into games.

For me "Metroid Other M" fails in every category. What a disappointment. I can't believe Nintendo let this out the door.

It's certainly a tough control scheme to wrap one's head around, but I wouldn't go so far to say it "fails". It's just overly confusing and non-intuitive, IMO.

Also, can someone please explain to me the logic of having Samus drain her health down with no way to even replenish it a little bit until she drops below 10, then magically allowing her to go back to 100% immediately by concentrating? When I'm sitting at 12-15% health I have to run out into the open and let a purple bug or porcupine attack me so my health can drop into single digits and I can recharge.

That sounds annoying for sure.

This should be in my mailbox tomorrow...looking forward to checking it out.

Tried getting into this over the weekend.

Love the third person perspective. It plays pretty well from that vantage point.

Hate the first person view. It's buggy (have to have a perfectly perpendicular connection with the sensor bar for it to lock in) the scanning is awful, you can't move, just an all around fail.

That being said, I got about 75-80 minutes in and the game just froze up on me. I couldn't leave first person perspective, couldn't find anything to scan to trigger some sort of cutscene, so I just turned it off, and haven't been back since.

I think I'm nearing the end, but when the hell am I going to get Power Bombs? Adam is, uh... indisposed... so I'm free to do whatever, so why no PBs? I have every other upgrade so I'm going back through every sector looking for missiles and e-tanks and there are a ton that require it.

That first scanning bit was so fucking annoying. I spent 10-15 minutes there as well. There's a little white bird under a leaf on the ground that you have to find. They get a little easier, but still annoying as fuck. I've had to turn up the brightness on the TV 3-4 times to find stuff.

oh, so the game wasn't frozen. a little hint after like 10 minutes of searching would've helped.

way to go team ninja.

Same thing happened to me. I haven't turned it on since either.

Look for some little bugs crawling on the floor - just below the 'horizon' line.

Also - the cutscenes really come back with a-fucking-vengence later in the game when the shit starts happening...yawn.

Little bugs. Sigh.

There are some things that I like about this game quite a bit... but it's all balanced out by some inexplicable choices regarding the control mechanics. I'm enjoying the time spent in the game, but it does make me wish I'd just pick up my Prime Trilogy instead.

So are you past that part?

Not yet. Need to get home tonight and do some bug searching apparently. I honestly thought the game was, uh, "buggy" and that it just kept freezing in first-person mode at that spot.

Nope, just a shitty way to make you advance the game. Turn up the brightness a little maybe for that section? Once you see the bugs, you can't un-see them. The game does this forced perspective a few other times, but thankfully it's a lot more obvious what to look at in those ones.

Pretty much what I dropped in to post.

Stuck in zone 1...beat the worms miniboss and can't figure out how to get out. I thought this was linear!

Finished it the other night. Got the full 100%.

Final thoughts: Great game that is only marred by the system it is on. i.e. controls and graphics.

I think they could have overcome the control issues.

I got my first taste of having to go first-person, then dodging, then charging missiles, etc...and I felt like I was doing a juggling act while playing a video game. Not terribly immersive.

I wish they'd given the option for a nunchuck scheme...or better yet, I wish they'd just gone 2-D.

Exactly chess. This game's problems have nothing to do with being on the Wii -- I think it looks pretty good actually. This game suffers from idiotic design choices that were intentionally made to make the game feel unique but actually make it an unintuitive and sometimes unpleasant chore to play.

I'll go ahead and finish that thought... for a Wii game. When there are two dozen space marine games released on the hi-def systems every year, it's hard not to look on Nintendo's space marine game and feel it's lacking in the graphical department, especially the lifeless characters in the cut scenes. Samus was clearly the only character they spent time on. The rest are about as animated as:

The Wii is showing it's age.

As for controls, if it were on a traditional system we would have a traditional controller and not be forced with this convoluted scheme. I would have much preferred the Nunchuck for controlling a 2D Samus in 3D space. It reeks of Nintendo forcing the control scheme on Team Ninja. You get used to it, but it isn't intuitive in the least and never really feels effortless juggling the the controller back and forth.

It's bothering me less as I get into it, and it really is a very good game.

Gotta say though...when Adam told me to activate my Varia Suit, I just had to say "FUUUUUCK YOUUUU!!!!"

I wonder what Nintendo was expecting sales wise. Currently "Other M" has sold less than 400,000 copies.

Metroid was my favorite series just on the original trilogy alone, making it 1st person was utterly stupid and i'm glad they've gone back to 3rd person with this.

Have you played this? Because anyone who has wouldn't have made that statement above.
