Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution
I don't think RB3's list is too bad. At least it's no Guitar hero where typically there are 1 or 2 songs that are good. The only good thing on world tour imo was the tool set, just about everything else is crap. It's like they use a dartboard to pick the songs for the guitar hero franchise.
There are a few songs on RB3 that I had never heard before that I actually bought on amazon after hearing them in game. |

Yeah, but it's not as if there's a microscopic number of songs out there in the world with keyboards and harmonies.

flashburn and Shagrath are people that know people. You believe them when it comes to Rock Band.

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution
I would have LOVED to have heard the pitch meeting that sold Kid Rock and Eric effing Clapton on that shit.
Well, Clapton anyway. Kid Rock was probably at Waffle House and knocked out one of the developers and this was a condition of his sentence. |
Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution
I'm probably in the minority, but I love the RB3 setlist with the exception of ~10 songs that I really fucking hate (I'm looking at you, HIM) and maybe another 15 that I only "like." Otherwise, the songs are either fun to play or songs that I really enjoy, if not both.
As for the supposed death of the genre, I think oversaturation is largely to blame, but I'm honestly surprised these games ever reached such high levels of success in the first place. It always struck me as such a niche product among gamers, so to see it in the homes of family/friends who are otherwise not gamers has always surprised me. |
Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution
While I haven't played the entire RB3 setlist - it's been a blast except for that fucking HIM song (as ObeseAnthony mentioned)

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution
I don't mind the HIM song.
I'm not a big fan of it, but I don't find it particularly bothersome either. |

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution
The HIM song is ok, not at all what I had expected. I gave it 2 lighters.

I like the "Wings of a Butterfly" song that was released as DLC.

I mean, I know we're a skewed collective, but how did Rock Band fall off the table? I blame Activision because the average gamer still lumps RB and GH into the same pile. If this is the death of the rhythm genre, it is untimely. If anything Rock Band 3 feels like a transition album. I'm hoping that GH dies, Rock Band stops releasing half-assed Green Day games and HMX gets the backing of someone with a vested interest in the genre succeeding (and a better gameplan for generating revenue with DLC via integrated sales and timely promotion). They're just missing so many opportunities to get people hooked on bands the radio doesn't play (since radio doesn't play music anymore so much as product). I'm a little OCD about seeking out new music but it's exhausting and I wish I didn't waste so much time doing so but I must feed my inner-hipster... and if I can discover new music through Rock Band there's great opportunity to sell more shit if they can just figure out the balance... and stick around long enough to catalyze a revival. But that's all been said before. I'm just typing here.
And add me to the list of people that weren't blown away by the RB3 tracklist. |
