 yeah, those don't technically work on a 360 but thanks for playing.

I had not noticed that, but now that you mention it...

I can think of nothing. It's really too bad they don't make more shooter video games. It's such an neglected genre.

rotfl

It's been my favorite genre since 1981, and I've probably bought over 100 of the multiple thosands of FPS games released since then.

The original Halo is perhaps my most played/favorite, and Borderlands looks to have potential to replace it.

Think you have some great recommendations and additions already Scott, but I'll second Gears of War. Technically not FPS, but similar enough and easy to get used to imo, and a ton of fun.

If my house was burning down and I could only grab 4 already played 360 games, they would be:

Halo
Borderlands
Gears of War
Oblivion

they have been very good recommendations and thanks to all.

i am gonna see how this BioShock thing works out and take it from there, since i have 2 also that i got cheap. the first level of Bio was really fun, i do like the exploring, which i didn't mention originally. which is probably why Borderlands took me 45+ hours in total to complete since i liked to look around for stuff. i did that in Halo too, but that was limited.

the few minutes of The Darkness was neat as well. i am sure i will get back into the others GoW2, MW2, H-L2, etc as well. as Groucho said nicely, every game can't and won't be the same experience and i just have to take them for what they are and enjoy what they have and not overthink in what they don't, that is not what fun and games are all about afterall.

Killzone 2 and Resistance were two of the bigger disappointments of this gen for me (especially Resistance, wasn't expecting much out of K2 to begin with), I do want to give R2 a shot sometime. Though going off the action comment, scott1598 would prolly like K2, shame about the whole exclusivity thing.

scott1598 - did you try out ODST? FEAR? Chronicles of Riddick (namely Escape from Butcher Bay)? Bad Company 2?

Singularity, which is due out in a week, has the potnetial to be what you're looking for if they deliver what they've promised. I haven't seen any reviews yet, so that's a bad sign, though. On the other hand, it's from Raven and they have a solid track record. I guess we'll see.

If you like the concept of Crackdown but just want something a little less frantic, consider checking out Prototype.

Get a PS3 at some point and play the God of War trilogy...

You should have been a PC gamer in the 90s. Every month a new, linear FPS was released. I miss those days.

Why didn't you start with Gears of War 1?

Until you get a PS3 and play Uncharted, I'd say +1 on giving Half Life 2 another shot. I played it after the three Halos, and yeah, it felt a bit dated but I loved it and played through all the chapters.

not a FPS, but pretty open and expansive...

Thought about your Crysis again, and I'm prepared to give an answer that's a Far Cry from the one I gave before (don't think I'm a STALKER for replying to you twice). You may Quake in FEAR when you hear this (but those who don't know history are Doomed to repeat it): there are Dark Forces about, an Undying, Elite Force. Unreal, right? This fact may be a System Shock, but this is Serious Sam, er... Scott (excuse me) and I'll Prey you don't call me a Heretic for possibly bringing you to the Brink of Rage. The Fall Out from this fact is that No One Lives Forever, especially if they're spilling Blood in the name of Modern Warfare. Bring a good Painkiller.

P.S. don't illegally download games, or else you're a Thief.

This is a terrible answer. You didn't recommend one game. -ohbfrank-

And he spelled "crisis" wrong, plus his capitalization is completely wrong. Come on, Tscott -- get with the program!

Another vote for Halo ODST. Especially if you've enjoyed the previous 3 Halo games.

Crysis 2 comes out later this year for the 360 and from the looks of it I think you may enjoy it.

Re: Similar games to Borderlands and Halo's?

There are tons of shooters out there, especially on the 360, but I see what the OP is saying. Borderlands, Bioshock, Fallout 3, and, to a lesser extent, Halo 3, are "different" to me. The main things, I think, are they were fine standalone single player games, either due to story [Bioshock and Fallout] or sheer addictiveness and accessibility [Borderlands]. Add in couch co-op [Borderlands and Halo 3] because I don't like doing the same thing on the same map, getting killed repeatedly by cursing thirteen year olds. I want to progress through a story, cooperatively.

I know Crackdown isn't a FPS, but I loved it as well [I didn't even buy it for the Halo demo, I bought it after a price drop].

Anyway, I'm looking forward to Fallout Vegas [hopefully it will have VATS or something similar], and I've heard good things about RAGE.

Half Life would suit the bill I think, I need to go back and finish it.

Not an FPS, but Red Faction Guerrilla is worth a look - story, action, and blowing stuff up real good.

I agree.

I LOVED Halo ODST. I think I liked it more than the original Halo games due to the cool way they told the story, and the mood they were able to set.
