I just don't know what to do with this thing. My brother gave it to me when the DVD drive started flaking out (will not read discs reliably). I fiddled with it a while ago, but I could never get it working (I'm fairly handy with this sort of thing, but I think I need a new drive). I have oodles of other A/V equipment and an XBOX 360, so I don't really have a need for an XBOX in and of itself; I'm really just looking for some creative uses for this thing.

Mod it. Add a bigger hard drive. Fill it with emulators, videos, and other fun things. Thats what I did with mine.

Doesn't that require a CD drive? I'm looking for a low-cost mod/hack/whatever.

You could pre load the hard drive with stuff before you install it. I think there also might be a cable that you could connect to your computer to transfer stuff from a pc to the xbox.

My original XBOX gave me the RROD...yes they do this too...a couple days after I brought my 1st 360 home.

I'd try and sell it for whatever I could get. Ever since I got my Xbox 360, I have never had a reason to go back and use the original.

Lots of games wont run properly or at all on the 360. There were a ton of great xbox games.

It's funny how the original Xbox is treated as if it were an Intellivision or Colecovision.

Yeah, no doubt. My original xbox is easily my most used piece of hardware ever. I cannot imagine life without the thing. The 360 does a lot of what the xbox needed to be modded to do, but it still doesn't have the flexibility of the original xbox with XBMC on it. I swear, if the original xbox had the capability to run HD video, I would marry it.

With Windows 7MC, can't the 360 do just about everything you can do on the Xbox with XBMC?

That's my issue. I'm thinking at this point that I can build a media center for my brother as a little gift. I just need to figure out how to do this w/o a DVD drive (I've read a little, but it seems like it's a little more complex than I'd care for).

Nearly, but I still find the XBMC to be more versatile in the ways I need it to be.

I wish I could get my old Xbox with XBMC to work with my Win7 desktop. At this point I can get my 360 to do just about all of the same things but XBMC was so much faster and I had it loaded with all sorts of online widgets that would bring up song lyrics, cast lists, etc. with the press of a button. It just refuses to connect to the Win7 network for some reason.

I paid some kid on craigslist 15 bucks to softmod mine so i could install MAME on it and eventually will get the Jamma adapter and throw it into an arcade cabinet i have in my garage.

That's not a bad idea. The old Win98 box I have driving my arcade machine is getting a bit long in the tooth and I imagine the Xbox would also boot up much faster. Hmm.

You can play Crazy Taxi 3 on it, with original locations and licensed music intact.

ive got a modded one with a ton of games (ummm.. or backups).. filling a plastic container in my garage... its doing a good job of taking up space :-/
