Sounds like every From Software game I have played. I meant to get it on release, but don't have the cash so it will have to wait. It was 3D dot heroes or Picross 3D and Picross won hands down.

The game's website has a section for uploading/downloading character creations:

I'm really digging this game. It's the closest we will ever get to old school zelda without nintendo actually remaking the original zelda.

I've played through the first two dungeons so far, and it's a lot of fun! Something tells me that I'm in for a Link to the Past style "dark world", otherwise it would be a fairly short game.

That's what I'm thinking gramps. I have 4 already, and i know i can't be over half done after 4 hours. Then again, if you throw in the time trying to find a fucking sage when they don't tell you which of the 6000 npc's in the game are said sage, that ramps up the playtime a bit.

My kid got his copy in the mail (preorder from his birthday), and from what I've seen, if you have any nostalgia for old-school Zelda, you'll dig this game.

This pretty much sums it up. New generation gamers in my opinion might be turned off by just how old school it is. Useless map? Check. Vague directions on where to go? Check. Looping music? Check. Handholding? Nope.

I agree. If you liked the classic Zelda then you will love this. If you don't then you will totally hate it.

I'm in the same spot Chew...keep wandering aimlessly around the desert.
This is a very cool game, and I love the blocky aesthetic, but I can't shake the feeling that I've played much much better isometric Zeldas (starting with Link to the Past).
If I were Nintendo, I'd be calling my lawyers!

There are signposts that will lead you to the desert. You have to take a convoluted path from the center of the world (east, north, east again, then south) to wind up at the temple.

I figured out the important missing piece to navigate the desert: take the sand elevator paths that are marked between either two cactus or two rocks. Once I did that, I found the temple on my next attempt.
I was randomly picking paths before.

Oh, that part. I misunderstood your original post. I thought you couldn't get to the desert, but it sounds like you were in the desert and couldn't get to the temple itself. Yeah, if I remember correctly, there's a guy near the town north of the desert that tells you about the cactuses.

New problem: I'm in the temple to the SE and can't make it very far. Either I need something to fly or maybe a rope (to tie between pillars). There's open pits blocking my path in all directions.
I must of missed buying something somewhere?

IIRC, this dungeon has two floors. Keep an eye out for places where you can use that "secret revealing" magic. I can give you a more direct hint if you need.

Does anyone have any advice on getting through the Fire Temple? It is kicking my ass. I'm using the holy sword and have the strength maxed. I came within 2 rooms of getting to the big key room to activate the warp. This one has really been unforgiving.
Oh, and this game is all sorts of awesome.

I keep forgetting to use that revealing magic!
