Re: Split/Second or Blur?
Speaking of Burnout, I'm still trying to beat Revenge. That game doesn't seem to ever end.

Well, when I played, I didn't feel like the races were as tight as the ones in traditional paradise games. Paradise found a city that had routes you can race, where as the other Burnout games had tracks. It's a small gripe, but it was a ding in the negative for me.

 Who? And the Muse album was new, what, six months ago? ;) Serious though, what are you talking about? Since it is a built in feature the 360 custom soundtracks supersede the game. You can listen to whatever you want constantly over top of pretty much any* game. No pause or break in the music for menus or events. This is not new.
*there are a few rare examples where the game takes over during cinematics. On most games, I wouldn't care to listen to a custom soundtrack. Driving games are a great fit though, particularly an open-world one. Sports games would be too if I ever played them. |
Re: Split/Second or Blur?
I only selected the classical and DM pieces for burnout. They just seemed to fit better than the rest of the songs on the playlists.
Also, Just played the Split second demo and I have to give it the nudge over Blur. I like them both but, does Split Second seem to handle better than Blur? or maybe it's just me...? |
Re: Split/Second or Blur?
Finally gave the Split/Second demo a spin last night. Ran three races. It was a blast. The car<s>s</s> handled better than Blur, but nowhere near a Burnout level. I kinda missed not having a boost or being able to 'nudge/takedown' other cars. It did feel like most obstacles were avoidable but the main draw seemed to be the secondary trigger. From the three races I did, it seems like the course changes more depending on how many times you save up and use it(or maybe it's just one major change per lap). Hard to tell.
Still it was very fun. Like Blur, it doesn't seem like it needs to be a day one-$60 purchase.

BTW, that package of DLC was AMAZING. To have that much content readily available on my hard drive at any time is really, really awesome and it's the reason other racing games just don't seem that appealing any more. |

Re: Split/Second or Blur?
That is funny. I'll start working on taking down your times now. ;)
That Knight Rider car is insanely, unfairly fast. And I almost wish that the Complete version didn't have all the in-game cars already unlocked, as it used to be fun to go chase down a car to add it to your collection, now there really isn't a point in doing that. BTW : I made a small typo in my previous post. I sold my 360 version of Burnout, not the 360 itself. To do that would be foolish. Right chess? :) |
Re: Split/Second or Blur?
Tried the Split Second demo last night and just didn't care much for it. Maybe it's because I just played 20+ hours of Need for Speed Undercover, but the game just felt too slow. I didn't like being confined in walls on a track, and I didn't feel engaged whenever I would trigger some explosion where I guess I killed other drivers who were ahead of me fair and square. Nice concept, Disney.

Yes, the Knight Rider car is ridiculously fast and controllable under boost, and it's super easy to chain boosts in it. It's also one of the tougher cars in the game. The only thing it doesn't do super well is stunts. BTW : I made a small typo in my previous post. I sold my 360 version of Burnout, not the 360 itself. To do that would be foolish. Right chess? :) I'll tell you when the 360 "slim" comes out...hopefully with full USB support and hopefully fewer dibilitating design flaws. :) |
Re: Split/Second or Blur?
played the demo for Split/Second, much better than Blur. The cars handle a helluva a lot better too. I was afraid Split may be too linear in where you destroy things, but thats not really the case, except for the big course changer. Keeping my Pre-order, and will Gamefly Blur.

Re: Split/Second or Blur?
While we are comparing two racing games with questionable handling... for your consideration:

Re: Split/Second or Blur?
I was leaning toward Split/Second and Amazon just helped me decide. The 360 version's on sale for $45.98 with a $10 VG credit. Nice.
|
Re: Split/Second or Blur?
Cool, I was wondering if they were going to match Dell. Looks like they are $5 better with the GC. They are also offering release date delivery on this one.
<s>Still not sure if I want to pull the trigger yet with my backlog.</s> Sucker. In for one. *edit - Pre-order Split Second on Xbox 360 or PS3 and receive an Amazon exclusive poster. Oooh! :) |
Re: Split/Second or Blur?
Hey, for anyone interested in one or the other of these games, both Split/Second and Blur are $39.99 at K Mart from now until 6/12. Got S/S last week, ModNations the week before and am thinking about Blur now. I'm such a sucker.

Re: Split/Second or Blur?
Having played all three of the recent racing games, I think they all have merit. Which one(s) you should get will depend on what you're looking for in a racing game. All have multiplayer, but I feel like Split/Second is more focused on single player, and it's probably the most exciting and over-the-top of the three. Blur is really slick and has a great sense of progression as you rank up and unlock new stuff (in both the single player and multiplayer modes). Finally, ModNation Racers has all of the user-created content and a unique art style.

Re: Split/Second or Blur?
Having finished Split/Second single player, the online multiplayer is much more fun now that I have most of the good cars. I played for about an hour last night. Won a couple but mostly finished 2nd. Went from an online form of 99 to 63 in that time. I also did manage to nab an achievement I didn't think I would:
http://tiles.xbox.com/tiles/pi/fd/14...fn5-jyJ7o=.jpg Giant Killer - Beat an opponent with an online form of 10 or better. Actually beat someone ranked #1. ... but yeah, before finishing the single player game, online Split/Second = ass. |
Re: Split/Second or Blur?
Did you get gold on everything?
|
Re: Split/Second or Blur?
Almost. All but 3 Detonators and 1 Air Revenge. So there is one more car to unlock.
|
Re: Split/Second or Blur?
I hope there is some DLC to follow up that  cliffhanger ending.
|
Re: Split/Second or Blur?
Dude, that ending was freaking awesome. Screw DLC, I'm ready for SS2. I think they have just scratched the surface of the possibilities of this [potential] franchise.
|
Re: Split/Second or Blur?
Spoilers!!!!!!
I know, you didn't mention anything in specific but now I know that Spoiler:
:p ;) I'm already in episode 12, trying to get more golds in the earlier episodes to be sure to end as #1 at the end of the season. |
Re: Split/Second or Blur?
I bumped this thread just to ask "Why did the Blur thread get locked"? It's still a relatively new game and it's not like there was any contentious argument going on in the thread. Was that a mistake?
|
Re: Split/Second or Blur?
Yeah I was about to ask the same thing. We can't talk about Blur anymore?

Re: Split/Second or Blur?
Damn, I've been waiting on a deal forever. I figured it wouldn't happen since the company is now defunct.
|
Re: Split/Second or Blur?
How the hell do they have a sale on something and not have it on the site as being on sale?
Thanks Decker! |
Re: Split/Second or Blur?
Forgot there was a third DLC. Wish that was on sale too.
|
Re: Split/Second or Blur?
Thanks for the heads up on this. I've been interested in it for a while, may pick it up
