Looks like Capcom pulled the same crap here that they did with Resident Evil 5.
They compromised and hurt the single-player game by forcing a co-op game onto it.
And the fact that joining a co-op game is problematic makes it even more of a clusterfuck.

But again, LP 1 and Colonies took off in the mulitplayer community. So forcing co-op to get people to pay attention to it makes sense.

Re: Lost Planet 2 - May 18 - Official Thread
We played a little 4 player co-op tonight. It was fun, but very hard to tell what is going on and what we are supposed to be doing. The aiming and enemy targeting is horrible, and the entire game from the moment it boots up is a giant mess of menus and options with no direction or tutorial. The multiplayer vs, as expected, is some of the worst if not the worst I have ever seen. I was SOOOOO excited for this game, but its hard to recommend it at all. It's a 6 or 7 out of 10 at best. Japan needs to lay off the overly complex crap with terrible controls and bad online for their games.
Oh, forgot to mention that most of your time playing with friends will be spent watching an unskipable cinematic or looking at loading screens, complete with "ready, set, go" moments like it's trying to be Mario Kart.

Are you talking about the Co-op Demo or full game?

I still really want this game but I hate how its made for multiplayer. The review says it sucks if you play solo and I have no desire to make 'dates' with friends to make sure we can play it together.

Ravenous, I told you this would happen in this thread.
I would say that if one didn't like the 1st game, or you're not going to play LP's ONline Multiplayer matches, then stay away from this one. Lost Planet was never for you.
Either way, the reviews don't bother me since hearing bad things about LP is nothing new to me. I'm telling you guys, Single player was never this game's strong point. Even with Co-op added in People will go straight to Multiplayer for Elimination and Post battle.

I was speaking about the full game. Also, no one is going to go right to multiplayer...that is the worst part of the game. I have already had a dozen or so canceled preorders on this game since that 2nd demo came out. Some of the worst multiplayer gaming out there. If you can stomach some horrible game designs and find 3 friends to suffer with you, the co-op story is ok. Everything else is trash

Granted, I haven't played this yet, but I did play the demo, and I didn't care for the team aspect much there. I loved the first Lost Planet. If this was just more of that, just bigger and prettier, I would have been ecstatic. Now, I'm worried that the game will be incredibly difficult because it was balanced with coop in mind.
I don't know about you guys, but I have a hard time being able to play a game through fully with someone else coop. As an adult, people have different schedules and shit, so online play is definitely fun, but playing through a whole 10 hour game with someone else is pretty much impossible for me. That could take months to do.
Coop seems like the new forced online mode component to me. The gaming press loves it, but they're in a bit of a unique situation being that all of their peers are gamers, and they have an extensive list of available players to choose from. I might be wrong, but I think there are more people like me out there.

But I'm not talking about 4 player Co-op. This new game will do fine in 16 player Online Multiplayer matches like Elimination, Team Elimination and Post Battle. If they include Akird Hunter that will also do well. One review posted mentions how unbalanced Fugitive is....HELLOOOOO!!!! Fugitive has ALWAYS been unbalanced.
Some of these reviews sound like the reviewers never even played the 1st game or understand where the game's true strength is. They're complaining about the same things LP fans have learned to deal with or even embrace.

Yeah, I'll probably do the same. There were a few choke points in the first LP, so I'm sure I'll find more in the second. The big draw for me is I loved the design of the first game. As far as the whole space-shooter thing goes, I found LP's world infinitely more interesting than that of Halo or Gears. I'm not talking story, cause that was terrible, I just mean design wise. I really liked the look of the alien creatures and human enemies. It was the best Starship Troopers game anyone could ever ask for. Throw in the gigantic monster battles, and you have your Monster Hunter fix too.
I know Robo is all about the online, but the single player was where it was at for me. at $30 to $20 I think I would be able to overlook most any fault the game might have when it comes to balance. I'm sure it will be there soon enough.

I've learned to pretty much never listen to reviewers. How can they understand what it is that I am looking for in a game/movie/music cd?
I'll be buying this for my 8 year old's son's (9th) birthday this week

But if you don't listen to reviews then you really won't know if what you're getting will fulfill what you're looking for. I figure that comes from actually reading the review. Like, if the consensus "it has a great co-op game but a shitty single-player game", then I know it's not for me since I'm only interested in a single-player game.

Yeah, I don't blindly follow reviewers, because taste is so subjective. However, I tend to find that reviews are pretty accurate when they talk about the mechanics of a game.
So if this review game LP a 5 for being "more of the same", I would have been good. When they said what slop101 pointed out, I get a little worried.

I always read up on the reviews for a game before deciding on a purchase. LP2 is a good example of why. I have the first game, and the design aesthetic of this sequel put it on my radar months ago. Now that the game is here, and the reviews are mildly negative to tepid, I'm inclined to wait. Had the reviews been stellar, I would have probably bought it today at the $40 sale price (that it's going for in Canada), but this title looks like it will be $20-$30 soon.

Hey, at least you guys are still BUYING IT!!!
I just don't think the game should be blown off even with it's Co-op issues.

It got a 3 out of 5 from PTOM. They said it was repetitive, enemies where overpowered whereas your guns all felt weak, and it was generally frustrating.

Yeah, me too. Waiting till it's about $20 before I pick it up. Shouldn't be too long. From what I've read, the single player campaign is very difficult (if not impossible, at points), due to the poor design; and that is the campaign that I'm mainly interested in.

Re: Lost Planet 2 - May 18 - Official Thread
Just wait til it's $20.
Anyway, I set up my character and went right into Multi-Online and there's some things that have changed that I'm not crazy about like not being able to choose how you reticule moves. But so far it's been fun. There are some guys on there that have leveled up like they've been playing all day which is funny.
EDIT: I just played the Co-op campaign and I had no problems getting it. It was pretty cool...if you're into Lost Planet. The Cutscenes were kinda long but it was nothing that one couldn't get used too if they have the time.
