Re: Weekly Thursday Call of Duty Night (PS3)

I would love to go back to MW2 - however there is one caveat for friz as a noob. He will be limited by the fact that without going into pub matches he will be stuck with the basic weapons and will not have any of the ulocked items for our private matches. (Remeber that?) Black Ops and MW3 are the two CoD games where everything is unlocked for the private matches. friz could buy MW2 and be frustrated by that to at least get a taste of our douchiness or he could use redbox or gamefly and rent the latest iteration - unlike certain EA games there is no extra charge for online multiplayer.

easily available on the cheap - DLC not all that critical since those maps were good but not great - let me take that back a couple of the DLC maps were great.

How so? if you purchased them in the old days you should be able to share with up to five machines.

They were from someone else that I had gameshared with and credentials, etc changed...

@chess there are 2 map packs that run, I believe $15 each. Also, the problem with the pub servers is that they are filled with hackers.

I haven't run into a hacked lobby in ages. I think the issue they had was fixed for CoD4 and MW2.

Re: Weekly Thursday Call of Duty Night (PS3)

Looks like the Redboxes near me don't have COD:MW2 anymore. In fact, a search on their website only shows COD:MW3 in stock anywhere. Guess I missed my window to give this a shot on the cheap.

Unless...

Did I understand you folks right that you can run a private match without needing to get all the DLC if I get a used copy for a few bucks?

The DLC maps are not needed - you can keep your cost to under 20 bucks easily.

That is correct. MW2 had 2 map packs but we all enjoyed it so mutch we have no problem going back for it. MW3 won't have ps3 DLC maps until mid-to late-February and that's only for the couple of us that picked up Elite and get early access to the DLC.

No codes are necessary for the online stuff unlike almost all mutiplayer games nowadays. Just realize we usually jump in on Thursday nights I have no problem jumping into a private match to teach players the basics and how things work and act as a walking clay pigeon - naturally, check with us to see if it is your cup of tea.

Cod4 is less than $25 for the GOTY edition new with the lone map pack included I believe
MW2 is less than $22 new or $15 used
MW3 new is $39.99 at Target and Amazon

Can you please tell me what game is what? I thought COD4 is MW2 or is MW2 actually COD5? Which game are we talking about?

Re: Weekly Thursday Call of Duty Night (PS3)

Sorry about the confusion
CoD4 is Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare - set in the modern era
MW2 is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 also set in the modern era and direct sequel to CoD4 ( technically it is CoD 6 - Call of Duty: World At War was CoD 5 and was set in WWII)
MW3 is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 also set in the modern era and a sequel to MW2 ( technically it is CoD 8 - Call of Duty: Black Ops was CoD 7 and was set in the Cold War)

MW2 is the game we are talking about going back and playing if friz or anyone else picks it up.
MW3 is the latest moneymaker. And is the game which is in your redbox.

Man they sure do televise their "concerts" often. I hope it doesn't correspond with a random drug test at the office.

Re: Weekly Thursday Call of Duty Night (PS3)

Good times last night even though it was a small turnout. sauce (in between his stints with phish), r2, nic, origami and me. good times. Especially liked the kill confirmed match . the drop zone match where origami and I rolled right on over you guys was epic. Origami a crafty lil guy - he was absolutely brilliant on the team defender match where he was using the tactical insertions the way they are supposed to be used.
