re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
Well, fired up my elite last night and got the rrod :( Apparently since it's been over 3 years since I purchased it, the extended RROD warranty no longer applies either, so $99 to fix it.
Does the error affect hard drives at all? If I decide to just buy a replacement, can I just pop the 120gb hd off it and stick it on any new xbox - elite or otherwise? I'm leaning towards a repair vice replacement, but any tips/suggestions appreciated. thanks. |

Okay, remember when I posted a few weeks back how it was strange that ESPN on the 360 never showed any commercials during the breaks? Well now I would like to shoot myself because today they are showing commercials. As a matter of fact, the same two commercials over and over and over again.
Fucking football AT&T commercial and the man falling on the car Allstate commercial back to back or even twice in a row EVERY FUCKING COMMERCIAL BREAK. I'm having to mute the goddamn TV every time the fucking game goes to break. First during the Georgia game and now they are doing the exact same thing in the South Carolina game. I miss the quiet "your program will return" message now. Ugh. :suicide: |

I could go either way. Some commercials would actually be nice compared to staring at a static screen for 3 minutes. On the other hand the silence is nice too.
And yeah, still doing Bing. Cashed in for about 1600 so far. Saw on the point page that there is a 3000 MS point limit. :( I guess switching over to Amazon would work. |

Not only was the Internet stream like 1-2 minutes ahead of the Xbox stream, it didn't suffer from that commercial issue. It's like the xbox version only gets access to a few commercials or they have some sort of cache that got filled up improperly. Either way, I think I'm going to forget ESPN on the xbox and just use the laptop for several reasons: 1) Less annoying 2) Can split-screen the simultaneous games 3) More real-time 4) I can play games on the xbox too |

While your money would be better used in upgrading the hardware, I'm not sure what options you have to migrating the data off the old hard drive. For example, I'm not sure if the hard drive migration kit works on old-style hard drive -> new-style hard drive with a new xbox in the mix. I *should* but I can't guarantee. Another option would be going to a friend's house and manually moving all the volatile data (saves, profiles) off onto a usb drive and then moving them back later. Just some ideas off the top of my head. |

If only there was a search engine capable of giving an answer to that question.

Xbox Live Deal of the Week:
January 3rd, 2011: "Avatar Dress Up" GOLD MEMBERS ONLY
Perhaps the lamest Deal O' The Week ever, but hey, it got me a doctor's outfit for $1.50, so I'm not complaining. |

What achievements in NBA 2K11 did you earn but not earn due to this glitch? Any chance to re-earn them without deleting your save file and starting over?

Good. Those are the only sales I'm really interested in and I'm letting my Gold expire in a few months.

I guess I'm not as hardcore anti-paying-for-avatar-clothes as I thought because I'd probably get that kilt for $1. But I don't have a Gold membership. Such is life.

re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
I understand. That kilt is the closest Microsoft will allow to cross-dressing with a male avatar.

I went to play some Dead Space last night, and was greeted with a fucking loud drive. So I installed it, here's the video of how it sounds. Awesome. |
re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
Are you having it occur with other games too or just Dead Space? I recently had this issue with Splatterhouse where for some reason that disc sounded like it was eating it's way out of the machine. Especially when I just went ahead and installed it for that very reason. I haven't however had it happen with anything since then. So is it possible it's limited to something with that disc?
|
re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
Kinectamils was kinda loud, Splatterhouse was a little better.
But another thing that's awesome, is that when I press the eject button it opens the drive. then automatically closes itself 10 seconds later. |
re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
I'm just going to assume it's all karma for playing Kinectimals. And as such, you deserve it.
