You can now register your console for the dashboard beta, you have to get a key and download a app which your run on your 360 to confirm your console is in.

re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
Has this happened to anyone else? My subscription was running out for Xbox Live so I bought a 12 month card on Amazon, and I applied it. I'm checking out my CC activity today, and I see that a day ago MS charged me $60 for a 1 year renewal on Live. I'm calling them now. I think it is absolutely ridiculous that you have to call MS to remove auto-renewal. What a scam that is.

re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
Exactly why I never give them my credit card.
|
re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
I guess last time I let my subscription lapse and rather than buy a card, I just put my credit in. That automatically turns on auto-renew. They canceled both years, refunded my credit card, and gave me a 1-year card. Now on my options, auto-renew is off.
The CSR said that when you sign up through them directly, it automatically turns on auto-renew. I still say it's bullshit you have to call them to turn it off. |
re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
Be sure to remove the credit card from your account, just in case. You can do that on the website.
|
re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
So how can you check to see if auto renew is on? And can't you turn it off somewhere on their website?

re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
So I just added a new card and am good till 2013. When the original expires in 2012, are they going to try to charge me then?
|
re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
No. Card subscriptions on your account always extend your active subscription and therefor supersede billing you via credit card.
|
re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
There is a way to turn off auto renew if you say your from Chicago, for some reason it lets you turn it off.
|
re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
yeah, i always buy the cards. too many horror stories about MS having people's CC.

"This payment option cannot be removed at this time. Go to the Payment method information page to view services associated with this payment option." and going to that page takes my to the billing.microsoft.com page but no option to remove only add another card. I imagine I'm going to just have to end up calling but maybe I'm not going to the right place. |
re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
I have the same problem I have a expired cc that I can't remove even though I have been using pre-paid cards for 2yrs now. I think you have to let your account expire before your allowed to remove the cc. Since auto renewal is off you don't have to worry about them trying to charge you again.

We have nearly 40 world class TV and entertainment providers coming to Xbox LIVE including: Bravo, Comcast, HBO GO, Verizon FiOS and Syfy in the U.S.; Roku just launched an HBOGO channel, and lots of users are shut-out by their cable companies. Comcast, DirectTV, Time Warner and Cablevision are not supporting the service. Comcast, DirecTV Say No-Go To HBO On Roku Comcast and DirecTV -- the two largest U.S. pay-TV distributors -- are not allowing their subscribers to access HBO's authenticated TV Everywhere service, HBO Go, via the Roku Internet-connected set-top in what appears to be a move to avoid lending support to a potential over-the-top competitor. "We believe this was a conscious decision made by the management teams of DirecTV and Comcast in order to protect their brand and identity in consumers' living rooms," BTIG analyst Rich Greenfield wrote in a blog post.HBO Go on Roku The companies' move to deny access to HBO Go on Roku was reported Friday by GigaOm. Neither company provided an explanation for why they aren't allowing customers to watch HBO Go content on Roku. "Every day we're working to make Xfinity TV programming available to our customers in more ways including the Xbox, connected TVs, on websites like XfinityTV and HBOGo.com, on tablets and other devices," Comcast said in a statement. "We will continue to work with our partners to deliver even more choices to our customers in more places." For its part, DirecTV said in a statement, "We don't have any plans to support Roku at this time." Greenfield called the actions "simply an unfriendly consumer move." "This runs in direct contrast to our view of what the MVPD [multichannel video programming distributor] industry should be doing to embrace a boxless future," he wrote. "This is simply an unfriendly consumer move by both companies perpetuating suboptimal user interfaces / experiences." Meanwhile, Time Warner Cable and Cablevision Systems remain the two largest operators that don't offer HBO Go at all, though TWC has said it's working to negotiate a deal to offer the TV Everywhere service. http://www.multichannel.com/article/...BO_On_Roku.php |
re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
Yeah, I was ready to get a Roku and then read that.
Since Comcast is part of the providers showing up in Xbox, I really hope they allow HBOGO here. Maybe is related, Microsoft got exclusive rights and no other company can do that, but then again there are some cable providers allowing HBO GO in the Roku. |
re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
Cable companies need to die a horrible and agonizing death.

I'm sure this is why apple is reluctant to bring HBOGo and similar apps to apple tv.

New Dashboard is rolling out if you're in the preview program and registered the console with that little app a week or so ago. Installing now on mine...

re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
I signed up for the beta a while ago, but didn't run the app. Wonder if I'm in or not.

re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
Oh wait, we are not supposed to talk about this in forums and stuff, right? :(
Anyways, like I said to my wife last night: I'M IN!!!!! Spoiler:

re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
OK, thanks Corvin. Thought I was SOL, but after some poking around I was able to navigate around the Microsoft Connect site and found the way to request and receive a product key that I redeemed on xbox.com/myaccount for a "Beta Registration Tool" that's now in my console's download queue. Hope to check it out soon. Wonder if I'll have to wait 2-3 days like you did now that the Beta is live.
|
re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
So is HBO Go included in the beta, or is that coming later?
|
re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
For those who have the update already : I know you/we can't discuss much about the beta, but can you post a  if the new dash doesn't significantly obscure your existing premium themes and a  if it renders your premium themes unusable, much the way the last major dash update did to our old non-premium themes. Thanks.

re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
Banana dance.
I think. |
re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
If I had purchased the Skyrim premium theme today, and if I had also gotten the dashboard update today, I wouldn't regret purchasing the Skyrim theme. Good thing none of that actually happened!

All I can say after this update I will be using my kinect a lot more.
|
re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
premium themes no longer have the images behind your friends like on the old dashboard....
|
re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
I'm liking the new metro interface so far. While playing games, I'm getting a lot more popups when friends sign in and out and also when they change games. And that was before I messed around with the new Beacon thing. I need to put this on my second xbox and see if the cloud saves work. That's my most anticipated feature.
|
re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
The HBO Go thing makes no sense to me. I'm still paying my provider the same amount whether I'm watching on HBO Go or on my cable box.
|
re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
My understanding is that HBO Go offers far, far more than HBO On Demand. I also wasn't aware of HBO Go being offered directly on cable boxes. This and Roku last week are the first "primary display" options I've heard about for HBO Go.
|
re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
What I meant by watching it on the cable box was watching the channels and/or On Demand.
My point is that the money that the cable company gets is the same whether I use them or use HBO Go. What the hell do they care how I watch it? |
