The consoles still sell very well at the current price points. Only thing that would bring the price down, IMO, is the launch of a new console. Also, rumored.

I love my 360 as well, but I'm ready for an upgrade.

I got three red rings last night. The light on my power brick stays orange when I turn on my xbox. I went to support, and their solution is to replace the power supply. Is there any reason to call xbox support as suggested to order a new power supply, or am I safe just picking up a new power brick for Gamestop?

re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
I could see a price drop, but I'm not sure where the recent discounts/gift cards originated. However, the console sales have been good recently, so I'm not sure they really need a price drop (of course, what percentage of the recent sales figures can be attributable to the discount/gift card deals).
I've still got enough good games to play, new and older, that I'm not antsy for a new console. It takes a couple years to really learn to show off and utilize the power of a console, and I think we're in the sweet spot now. Granted, even if a new console were announced at this E3 we wouldn't see it for a while. Plus the console (really all of them) do so much more than just play games. However, I don't think I want them to try to make it into even more of a PC and do the 'upgrade' path. I don't really care about 3d either. Part of that is sour grapes - it would cost me 1000+ to upgrade everything to where I could use it, and I don't want to do that, but as of now it is more of either a gimmick (at home) or an occasional treat (movie) for me. I'll wait till 3d is consistently used in a less intrusive fashion. I just got a new Harmony 700 remote, which doesn't work my 360. Not a huge deal, because I usually use the controller, but a minor annoyance. Anyone have the same issue? My previous 676 did work the 360. (and there are definitely some other issues with the 700, or the new way Logitech manages the remotes, what with the web interface or the downloadable software. And one lets you change activity names, but the other gives you an extra device. And of course they are different accounts.) |
re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
Any Harmony remote should allow you to work the 360. It's just a standard UV interface.

Do many PC games look tons better than recent 360 games?
Here are my expectations for the Next Gen (Nintendo not withstanding): * 1080p * 60 fps 2D / 30 fps 3D * Higher resolution textures * Higher polygon count * Better effects (lighting/particles/etc). |

Some do, but PC developers aren't pushing the envelope as much as they used to. Look at the gameplay footage for Battlefield 3 for an example of something that will have to be scaled way back for consoles.

AI is perfectly fine this generation, unless you're claiming that it's not realistic for a 1940's Los Angeles homicide cop to walk into a wall and keep trying to move forward instead of going through the door that's two feet away.

Ugh, is there anything in Nature that moves as slowly as a repaired 360 being shipped back to its owner via UPS? Mine was sent on Monday and won't get to Vegas until next Monday. Seriously, it took a day to travel from Mesquite to El Paso. Are they delivering it on a bike?

I've never heard of a power supply causing 3 red rings. The xbox itself needs to be repaired/replaced.

I wonder if at some point they'll just stop refurbishing the phat models, and start sending everybody with RROD a slim.

Check to see if the vents on the power supply are blocked up with dust/hair. My 360 was getting red rings as well earlier this year but after a few minutes I would be able to play it again and thought all was well. I then looked up something on the internet to try and find out the error code and it started mentioning about it could be the power supply and etc. to turn it off/pull the plug and then reconnect. Long story short, despite my tv stand being open air and pretty clean I have the power brick in my hand and one side there are numerous holes which are for venting and they were covered in dust/hair. Basically my 360 was shutting down all the time for a good 2 week span becuase of this because the last 6 months since good as can be.
On the bright side, I'm still under warranty from when I last had it repaired a month and a half ago. The downside is that I was really into Mass Effect 2, and now I'm going to have to go at least three weeks without. Speaking of, the Mass Effect 2 disc is still in my console, but I can't get it out. The tray won't eject, and I couldn't get the paperclip trick to work. Hope they return the game with my fixed/refurbished console. |

I called support. They said that it might be the power supply, but it could be the console. They started a service request, but told me that they couldn't do anything until I checked it with another power supply. I took it up to Gamestop and they tried it with some power supplies. Still has the three red rings. So now I have to call support again, cancel the service request for the power cord, and start a repair request for the console.

You NEED to get the game out. You won't be getting the same console back.
If all else fails, at least it's a super-cheap game stuck in there. |

Read some rumors about Microsoft releasing IPTV service for the Xbox (again?), with a service called Xbox Live Diamond. I'm almost sure we already talked about this, but this started to show again in some not too reliable sites, or at least not mainstream.
So, Xbox Live Diamond, all that's included in Gold plus TV channels. How much would you pay for that? |

They already have ESPN, Hulu+, Netflix and Zune. Now diamond? Fragmentation!!! Box all of that shit up into one service at a decent price and I'll take it all and drop Dish Network.

re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
Something tells me this IPTV stuff won't work without a regular provider, which I don't have. I probably can't be brought to care about it if all it adds is IPTV.
Odds Diamond and Family can't be mixed? 150%. |
re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
Is a 250GB slim XBOX 360 worth it for 199$. There’s a special at Futureshop here in Canada that’s selling the 360 for 199$ until June 5th. First of all is this a catch from Microsoft? Mere DAYS away from their E3 press conference? Are they trying to get rid of these models before announcing something new on Monday? While it’s a really amazing deal, is it right for ME(See below)?
I have a PS3 and I love it to death! I play alot of games on it and watch alot of blu rays and even if I had a 360 I would probably buy the PS3 version of multiplatform games. Also I don’t care AT ALL for FPS games so I have no need for Halo series and the likes. The only games that interest me are the Gears of Wars games which look very fun. But again even as cheap as 200$ is for a console is it worth it for me? A mainly PS3 guy? And I’m also not a huge fan of multiplayer games so I doubt I’ll have the need for XBOX Live. What other exclusives that ISN’T a shooter is out there that’s worth it? Thanks! |
