Re: The Ultimate Battle Free Pinball Thread
World War Hulk looks pretty cool.
In kinda related pinball news, you can stream a pretty cool documentary about pinball on Netflix called "Special When Lit: A Pinball Documentary." I watched it the other night and quite enjoyed it. It really made me want to head out to Las Vegas again just for the Pinball Hall Of Fame. Be warned though, it is more of a love letter to pinball more than a straight-on documentary. Those looking for a lot of history will likely be disappointed but I still found it very enjoyable and kinda sad. http://movies.netflix.com/WiMovie/Sp...?trkid=2361637 |

So does it feel like Pinball Hall of Fame, ported over?
I would have likely bought this for the Ripley table alone. There is so much going on in that game and I really enjoyed playing it last night. It always seemed every time I would find a real one to try to play, they were always broken or hobbled so maybe there really is too much going on. I remembered the Arabian game once I played it due to the spinning genie lamp but I wasn't very good at it so far. The ball seemed to go down the far lanes on me quite a bit but it was probably just not used to be the table. I didn't remember Theatre of Magic at all. Seemed like a cool table though the little time I played it. I never was a fan of The Black Hole. I just like the sounds that emanate from it. It's probably one of the coolest sounding pinball machines ever. I look forward to seeing what other licensed tables they bring in the future. Yeah, the tables aren't quite as fast as PinballFX and and may not have as much going on, but these tables are all almost perfect copies of the real life tables and I enjoy and respect that. When playing them, they felt like the real tables to me. I will say that they really fucked up trying to do skill shots on the tables and that really needs a fix. I also would like some variety of different views. I noticed that there are several "indie" pinball games on Live and was wondering if anyone had tried them: Hardboiled Pinball, Avatar Pinball, Elite Pinball HD, and Planet Pinball. |

Re: The Ultimate Battle Free Pinball Thread
I always figured I'd get my first billion point game on the Ms. Splosion Man table. But I broke that barrier on Epic Quest over the weekend. Then on my second game tonight on Sorcerer's Lair I really thought I was going to do it again, but I fell just short of 800M after a heartbreak drain.

No kids this weekend, eh?

Re: The Ultimate Battle Free Pinball Thread
If it makes you feel better to think all I did was sit here and play these for three days straight, go right ahead ;)

Re: The Ultimate Battle Free Pinball Thread
Yeah, PvZ and Peggle are the only ones that jump to mind. Peggle does have a Zen Ball powerup...
|
Re: The Ultimate Battle Free Pinball Thread
Holy shit! That's quite the bonus. Guess I'm done buying tables on the 360 now. I wonder if my free PSN Plus Marvel tables will be available on the Vita for free now -- I assume so. Even if not, just playing Tesla and El Dorado on the Vita will be awesome. Great news.
And I agree that the timing is a little fishy.... |

I'm still surprised some of those tables on Zen have not made it over to the 360 yet.

Re: The Ultimate Battle Free Pinball Thread
I was pretty unimpressed with the new Pinball Arcade game. I gave the three tables a trial run and they all seemed kind of bland in their presentation. The animation when you pull back the plunger seems like it is missing a bunch of frames and looks kind of 2007.
Also the colors seem off slightly. I played the crap out of Arabian Nights in college and I played it a ton on the disc based game and this new version seems really bright and a little too garish. Almost like the saturation is amped up a little or the colors are too pure versus blended.. I don't know how to describe it but it looked less real than the FX2 tables do (and those have unrealistic animations). |

And to answer my own question : PS Plus freebies will be playable on the Vita just like regular purchases are. Sweet. I really doubt the Cross-purchase thing would have happened if Pinball Arcade hadn't announced it first. |
Re: The Ultimate Battle Free Pinball Thread
You really think that Pinball Arcade announcing that a week or two ago impacted this announcement? Sony obviously went to devs with this concept. TPA didn't pioneer it.
|
Re: The Ultimate Battle Free Pinball Thread
It was a few weeks back, but yeah, I think they were planning on making the Vita games a separate purchase (as was their right to do so). When TPA announced that they were offering cross-purchases for their games and DLC tables, I think that caused Zen to rethink their pricing structure accordingly. I have no evidence one way or the other, but they did have trailers which mentioned Vita for their games without ever mentioning Cross-purchasing. Zen has always been up front about their plans -- we've known about the new Avengers tables for a couple of months now. I doubt they would have let TPA steal their thunder if that was their plan all along.
It certainly isn't impossible that TPA's decision impacted their new pricing -- it happens in retail all the time. |
Re: The Ultimate Battle Free Pinball Thread
Granted, but Sony has to allow it first. Before TPA was there any precedent for this or did the Vita pioneer it? Zen waited until the day before TPA to even hint at ZP2, this was always part of it. It's clearly orchestrated.

Re: The Ultimate Battle Free Pinball Thread
A while back I know they said they wanted to allow you to buy the tables once and have it work on both systems, but I thought Sony originally told them they couldn't. In one of their responses on the announcement, the said it'll be out the same day as the Avengers pack.
Spent a little time with TPA, and the physics in it seem a bit off to me even when compared to Williams PHoF. And I've experienced some weird stuff on Ripley's. First is I shoot a ball with nowhere close to enough speed to get up the right ramp and the ball sometimes seems to get sucked up it, the other thing was after one of my games, it got hung on a looking for balls cycle. It would do a countdown from 20 and as soon as it was over it would just start over again. |
Re: The Ultimate Battle Free Pinball Thread
The next two Pinball Arcade titles will be Medieval Madness and Bride of PinBot. Sometime in May.
