Biggest news in that trailer? The PSVITA logo seen at the end.

Re: The Ultimate Battle Free Pinball Thread
The character themed balls on the Avengers table look kick ass. Love what they're able to represent story wise in a simple pinball dynamic.
Infinity Gauntlet table looks killer too. |

Re: The Ultimate Battle Free Pinball Thread
Apparently there is an Epic Quest tourney going on right now, has 7 days left I believe. I didn't even realize it and all of the sudden it said score XXX points to enter tourney. I did...and then I kept scoring. And scoring...my wife was watching in disbelief. I got my highest game in FX Pinball to boot. 103 million and some change when all said and done. Now, I know there are plenty of others out there with better scores, but darn it if I wasn't proud of myself.
Edit: It put me about #319 on the leaderboard...I peered at the top spot. 12 billion. WTF? My game took about an 30-45 minutes, I don't even want to know how long he/she took. |

Nice work. I played a game last night, took about 45 minutes as well. Got 253M. Didn't bother checking my standings, and stole my crown back from Pinata by a measly 1 in the superscore table.

Re: The Ultimate Battle Free Pinball Thread
So Pinball Arcade launches on Wednesday and I only have 400 MSP in my account.
I'm really jealous of the PS3/Vita connectivity for this. That's amazing. |
Re: The Ultimate Battle Free Pinball Thread
I guess I'll be buying Pinball Arcade on XBLA. I was hoping the PC release would be out by now. They are saying it won't be out on PC until May or June. WTF.

Re: The Ultimate Battle Free Pinball Thread
Finally played in the Epic Quest tourney. Got like 200M on my first ball including dying on the final boss because I only had one spell and two hits kills you. I'll kick his ass next time. At least it appears you only have to re-defeat a few monsters to get to him again, maybe all of a random set? I think mine were all from the mill.
Of course balls 2 & 3 sucked because I was bummed about losing the first so I didn't beat L&O's tourney score or my previous high (which is higher ;)), let alone retake my crown. Bonus topic: Princess Multiball. How do you prefer to fill the mini-field (her dress)? I really don't like the Super Jackpot spots and would rather have three regular jackpots out there, but I'm not sure if that's right. I like Add-a-Ball, but I'm wondering if I should be going for the Multi-ball every time to get many many more opportunities at jackpots, even if they're less frantic. Anyway, what's your strategy there? |
Re: The Ultimate Battle Free Pinball Thread
Go for multiball every time.
non-pinata peeps: Get extra jackpot or super JP lanes. I usually get 1 extra ball on my first entry into the MB mode, then 2 jackpots. Then I go add-a-ball, JP and SJP for the rest. I haven't tested if I can stack extra balls though. Going for multiball is stupid because it only gives you a single option for jackpot and no other frills. |
Re: The Ultimate Battle Free Pinball Thread
I do the same, 2 jackpots and extra ball or add ball. I don't consistently hit the cave or the mill shot during multiball to bother lighting them, and I don't pay attention to the upper flipper during the multiball either. Also, I always try to activate the 2 jackpots first, just on the off chance I mistime it.

You say stupid, but you can do it literally every time which is impressive, especially at 2.5M+ per JP.
Right. That's me. |
Re: The Ultimate Battle Free Pinball Thread
brb - going to check who has the high score on the table in question.
Right. That's me. Dude has one good game on Sorcerer's Lair and he thinks he's king shit of fuck mountain  |
Re: The Ultimate Battle Free Pinball Thread
My issue with just starting the multiball immediately is the jackpot lane it gives you. The sword and shield ramps are so easy to hit without even trying from having made those shots so many times throughout the game, I'd definitely want at least one of those lit. I can definitely hit them more than 3x the number of times I'd hit the mill jackpot lane during a multiball.

Re: The Ultimate Battle Free Pinball Thread
I think it starts it up with 3 balls all the time, don't really remember. The add ball really helps keep the multiball going. Once I get it down to 2 balls, I can get one going on each flipper and get a quite a few jackpots, since its really just doing the counterattack and getting 2 jackpots for each circuit. I will have to give it a shot with just one of the extra jackpots, since I think those jackpot lanes are the keys to good scores on them.
The multiball is the real key to high scores on this table. On my tourney score of about 250 million, I'd say 200 million was in the multiball. Not sure how high I have my Jackpots right now, I think its around 4million, but I'm usually good for about 40-60 million per multiball. |

Re: The Ultimate Battle Free Pinball Thread
See, that's my point. If you can start MB with 3 balls by only locking two, then you can have more MB modes started, so while you may have one less JP shot, you get more chances at them. I dunno, it might be worth looking at.

Re: The Ultimate Battle Free Pinball Thread
L&O is going to need those tables now. Took EQ up to 454M just now, almost beat the final monster twice, but just missed. Nearly started it a third time (since it's only a couple monsters that reset). He's worth 50M and can be done during Princess Multiball, fwiw.
Nice thing is that my superscore got a huge bump since I beat my previous Mars tourney score by 160M so that's all gravy. You're 350SS behind me now. |
Re: The Ultimate Battle Free Pinball Thread
nice work

Re: The Ultimate Battle Free Pinball Thread
I went against my rules and bought 1600 points for $19 today in anticipation of tomorrow's release. normally I need a much deeper discount, but I'm pretty sure I'll need them tomorrow.

Re: The Ultimate Battle Free Pinball Thread
I don't see it.

Of course

Re: The Ultimate Battle Free Pinball Thread
The achievements are up for TPA: http://www.xbox360achievements.org/g.../achievements/
Same basic structure as PFX2 in that there are 3 for each table worth 50g, but they're pretty boring as it's just the same three over and over. And it looks like the first 10g for each table is just given for playing the game, unless it comes with a stacked local high score list which would kind of suck. |
Re: The Ultimate Battle Free Pinball Thread
Those achievements look almost identical to the Williams Collection ones.
Blah! |
Re: The Ultimate Battle Free Pinball Thread
So it's 800 points for four tables, I assume? That's fine, and actually a better deal than the iOS version, I think.
I'll be picking up the PS3/Vita version. Hope I'll have some PS Friends who get it as well. Any word on whether Zen will be doing the same PS3/Vita thing with their Avengers tables? |

He was just hoping for some more creativity with them, is all.
I've had that Williams collection for years (I think from a cheap-ass Gamestop $10 sale?) but never got around to playing it. |

Tales of Arabian Nights was one of my all time favorite tables and I loved getting to play it again digitally. The high score list though stinks since it doesn't let you compare easily to friends. We took to keeping a thread on 8BB where we self updated our high scores just to see how we ranked. If this new XBLA version has decent leaderboards a la FX2 then I will easily doubledip and pay even more for the same tables. |

Re: The Ultimate Battle Free Pinball Thread
I know the physics are supposed to be better in Williams collection and Pinball Arcade, but I just don't like it.
I played quite a bit of Williams Collection a while back (after playing PFX2 for a while), and it just came off as slow and boring. The tables in there had nothing on the PFX tables, and I just didn't get a sense of speed on things at all. No exhiliration, just mediocrity, in my opinion. I'll demo Pinball Arcade, but that's probably as far as it's going to go. |
Re: The Ultimate Battle Free Pinball Thread
That's my fear - I'm now accustomed to Zen's take on video pinball that emulated real world just won't cut it.
|
Re: The Ultimate Battle Free Pinball Thread
That's pretty much what I posted a few weeks ago.
