From the offical gbxforums it is a physical map that is hand drawn by Scott Kester

Unless it's hand drawn, numbered, signed and framed it's not worth dropping another $60 on. I'd rather have a hand drawing of Moxxi. :D

Any Borderlands pop-up book would be incomplete without Mini-Steve. Heyoo!

Re: Borderlands
I checked over at the offical gbxforums and allot of speculation that the new DLC will be released this week even as early as Tuesday. Tuesdays tend to be Xbox day for new content dlc while Wednesdays are for PS3 owners. This week looks better with PAX going on and next weeks Halo: Reach coming out on the 13th. Lets cross our fingers on this...

Re: Borderlands
Gah! Only the first week of September and I'm already swamped with stuff to play. Can I get through Metroid, Bioshock's Minerva, DR: Case Zero and Borderlands all before 9/14? I don't think so.
|
Re: Borderlands
That would be a loaded DLC day with that, the last of the Dragon Age DLC, and "Lair of the Shadow Broker" for Mass Effect 2 all coming out that day.
|
Re: Borderlands
I just can't imagine it would show up with no preceding fanfare. Especially with PAX going on right now, someone would have said something.

Re: Borderlands
So there will be a free game patch in October that bumps the level cap up by 8 to a total of 69. I can't tell if that's only for Knoxx owners and everyone else will stop at 58 or what... Can you make sense of it?
http://kotaku.com/5630722/ At the Gearbox panel at PAX today, company president Randy Pitchford told a Borderlands-loving audience that the level cap for that game will be going up from 61 to 69. For zero dollars. "The level cap will now be 69," Pitchford said. "That's the magic number." He said the cap will come out close to the late-October release of the Borderlands Game of the Year edition. Pitchford said that the studio felt that they couldn't go up a full 11 levels, as they did through the paid downloadable content, The Secret Armory of General Knoxx, because they didn't want to put another level cap increase in paid DLC. The way that Borderlands DLC is structured, he said, would have required that anyone who would want to get the new level cap from new paid DLC would have had to buy all of the previous Borderlands DLCs as well. No good. Pitchford said Gearbox wanted all players to enjoy this raise of the level cap. The studio also decided that a cap raise of just five levels would be too small. So Gearbox settled on eight, which gets the level up to 69, for all those who have the Knoxx DLC. "69." The crowd laughed. The eight-level increase will be offered in a free patch for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 players. The patch will also included some re-balancing tweaks to the game. Expect it this fall. |
Re: Borderlands
October? So it doesn't matter if the next DLC comes out next week, I'll wait until the level cap increase so I'm not 'wasting' xp doing missions.
|
Re: Borderlands
Sweet, so we'll be able to knock off Craw with like a couple of shotgun blasts?

During the Gearbox panel at the Penny Arcade Expo in Seattle this weekend, studio president Randy Pitchford announced Borderlands: Claptrap's New Robot Revolution, the fourth downloadable add-on pack for the game, will be released on Sept. 28, 2010. Pitchford also had another surprise up his sleeve for fans by saying a new patch for Borderlands will be released that increases players' level cap by eight. The patch will be available to everyone for free, even if you did not purchase the The Secret Armory of General Knoxx DLC, which increased the level cap from 50 to 61. The new cap limit is now level 69. Gearbox doesn't have a set release date for the patch, but Pitchford said they're aiming near the release date of the Claptrap DLC. Claptrap's New Robot Revolution will be available for download on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC for $9.99. Gearbox previously announced a Game of the Year edition for Borderlands will be out on Oct. 12 that includes all four downloadable add-on packs for $59.99. |
Re: Borderlands
yep...over at gbxforums they're showing that's the date for the Claptrap DLC and none are really happy about it. Besides after Halo:Reach it falls almost the sme time as Dead Rising 2 for the 360. Not ready, still has bugs...who knows but most if not all was hoping for this week.
Now of course the big question as to moving the level cap to 69 (two added for the new DLC for 71) on will they increase the strength of enemies in Knoxx and what about Crawmerax? New weapons and where? And then what about those that's completed all of Knoxx? Will be interesting but sad to hear we'll have to wait three more weeks. |
Re: Borderlands
Where is that 71 talk coming from? How can the forums be saying that when Randy just publicly said that 69 is the magic number? Got a link?
He also said the main game will be rebalanced to handle the level increases and, I imagine, that would hold true for Crawermax. I'd guess he'd always be (Your Level)+3. As for the release date. It's TWO WEEKS after Reach launches. People will have bandwidth for this by then and probably be thrilled to have something new and shiny to distract them. Dead Rising 2 is nowhere near as big of a draw or competition to Halo or Borderlands. For me, that's a rental. |
Re: Borderlands
The new DLC is supposed to add two skill points that you can earn (hopefully not as grueling to get as Moxxi's two skill points). They are probably confusing those with levels.
|
Re: Borderlands
You don't get a skill point until level 5.
46 On disc = 50 (level cap) - (levels 1-4) 2 for Moxxi 11 for Knoxx 8 for free level cap increase 2 for alleged upgrade -- 69 Basically Moxxi's 2 and these other 2 would just fill in the gaps left by levels 1-4. |
Re: Borderlands
I think I might have to give this game up. I really hate vehicle combat, and I'm stuck on a boss that requires it (mad mel, I think?)
Also, damn, these developers sure took a chapter of the Quake Level Design manual ... brown, brown, and hey ... more brown! Bleh |
Re: Borderlands
You can kill Mad Mel from the ground if necessary. Bring along a rocket launcher and he'll go down pretty quick.

Re: Borderlands
Mad Mel is probably the boss that's killed me the most. Try elemental weapons to bring his HP down over time.
I seem to recall only killing him once while in a vehicle. I locked onto him, held down fire and drove randomly in circles to try to keep him from hitting me. BTW, this is the only boss fight like this in the game, so once you get through it, you should be good. |
Re: Borderlands
would it help me to try to outlevel him? I could go do the zombies levels I guess?
|
Re: Borderlands
And what a prophetic name that boss turned out to have. Gearbox = geniuses!

Bleh As to the overall look....I played plenty of Quake along with Unreal Tournament on the PC and Borderalnds in itself is unigue and more open world than either. It might be offically a "gel-cel' but it's more detailed type than so-called cartoonish. I too was a bit of... "this ain't going to look good at all" but it has grown on me and frankly I doubt it would make it if it were more or less detailed and more like Halo, GOW or COD. It's just about right and I hope they never change. |
