Re: Borderlands

My advice is to play long enough to get a feel for how the game tells the story. How missions work and what to expect. If you jump in with strangers, you'll find them leaving you behind to hit all the waypoints and turn stuff in before you get a chance to see what's going on.

Or play with someone you know that will stick with you.

This game is meant for multiplayer, but if you want to experience the "story" and little creative nuances, you'll definitely want a firm grip on it all first.

Thanks Pinata. I think I'll keep playing for a bit.

I'd mostly just play with friends online, but they've all had the game for a while, so I suppose a better question would have been, is the story good enough that I don't want to be distracted, or is it all about the fighting in any event.

Story?:)

There isn't much of a story, getting new guns and leveling up is why you will keep coming back.

Re: Borderlands

There's a reason I say ""story"" ;) I'm really talking more about the game mechanics and understand why you're doing what you're doing. If you just follow the marker and go into a basement of a shack to see a dead body then move somewhere else, you want to know why. You don't want someone else doing that for you and you never getting to see it.

Loved the first couple missions I did.

As mentioned the "solo" part is fun but no doubt it's much better with two or more. With two or more the game plays faster....by that you just get more things done quicker. The second plus with more players a bit tougher, more enemies, more loot, more action, more everything. The third plus is you have backup to revive you when you go down. If not....then it's ka-ching $$$$$ on the payout from dying. You'll lose not only money (no big deal) but you go back to a starting point which sometimes is not good. But solo is still ok.

I'm with pinata, play for a few hours to get a feel for the game before hopping into MP. Hell, I probably put in 40 before jumping into MP. It's too easy for an advanced player to rush you along and you'll end up missing things.

Cool thanks, I guess I won't sweat it if people want to play. Thanks for the not K&A too, I figured I was getting penalized somehow for dying, but couldn't really tell off hand.

More than welcome....sorry if I sounded more PRO toward MP, it is fun, but single player is a bit more...lets say at your own pace and even a bit more satisfying. Also feel free to add me to your friends list.....don't mind a bit.

Re: Borderlands

Two questions here...

What is "The Chopper' I've seen mentioned here? Is it a hidden mission, one for a certain player level or second playthru or what?

Second has anyone beaten Crawmax with two or more doing the "on-the-clif-edge" trick? We tried with two last night but didn't work.

It's a machine gun that has a high rate of fire and magazine capacity, but low accuracy and it empties your ammunition in a matter of seconds:

<object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/FieYrFvUFHA&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/FieYrFvUFHA&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>

You can "usually" get it from the Motorhead quest. It's based on luck, some get it on the first try while others after many attempts (or not at all)

I've only been able to do the trick in single-player.

Re: Borderlands

1) The Chopper is an assault rifle dropped by Motorhead (a quest you get from a midget in a shack in The Sunken Sea?). It's got a 500+ round clip, 0.0 accuracy rating, and a damage rating ~500x4. It empties the clip in one shot. I got mine the 2nd time we fought Motorhead and I didn't even know it was rare. Lucky, I guess.

2) Yes, it works. We did it with 4.

I guess the next question is....good for what or whom?

Curious as to how. We got to the top, ran over to the back corner on the ledge and both of us kept getting knocked down or off. We just could not find or get in the right spot. The other guy had to do it by-himself

Re: Borderlands

Mostly a novelty or good for close-quarter anniliation. I found it useful on the Moxxi bosses once their shields were down. Also you can interrupt the auto-fire with a simple melee.

Can't answer your question about the Crawermax spot. Maybe we are talking about different things/strategies. Our guy in the nook didn't do anything but act as an anchor for when all 3 of us were dead and waiting on the elevator. Kept his health from resetting.

Re: Borderlands

Been playing a lot of this and still loving it. I got stuck on Sledge last night though, so I think I may have been a little ahead of myself, spent the afternoon cleaning up those side quests to get better prepared.

I'm starting to figure out what's good and bad for weapons, but I still can't bring myself to shoot a load on something in the stores, I really need to find a good shotgun.

Great game.

Yeah, do as many side quests as you can before going after boss fights.

The bosses in the beginning are a bitch but once you get deeper and level up I thought they got easier. I didn't die once fighting the last 3 or 4 bosses.

Yeah, I'm actually glad my restart today was back at the beginning of that level, or I probably would have wasted a lot of time and money just trying to kill him.

Which character are you playing as....Soldier? For Sledge a good elmental shotgun and/or assault rifle either Electrical or Fire. Also have"Transfusion" grenades ready. If you have a decent Rocket Launcher with triple fire let it off the moment the doors open. You may get two rounds off before switching to close combat ones. If you take out those side minions of his first it'll help you move around and keep him away from you. Glad you're enjoying the game.

About the rare "Double Elemental" weapons.... I played or attempted to play with someone the other day that went tru Moxxi's with one weapon, one of those rare 'Double Elemental' weapons. What Level are those available and are they just super random or something in certain parts of the game"

On a side note I feel like a absolute idiot for not using the "Pistol Mod' for the Hunter almost zero time. I've always used the Blood Wing or Sniper mods. Until recentlly I haven't gave it much thought. Now it's like why bother with much of anything else but sniper and pistols. With the Pistol Mod anything with a 3.9 or above fire rate is just insane and I ought to kick myself for not using it.

Yeah, I just started as a soldier. I beat him last night without too much difficulty. I never did find an elemental shotgun until after beating him, but the combo of static grenades, a fire artifact on my turret and switching between my shotgun and fire SMG worked pretty well.

Oddly, the first shotgun I found continues to feel the best, even though it has a low resale value and no elemental. Shooting fast with less reloads seems to suit my style more than taking my time with a stronger one.

The Mad Mel section wasn't even a little challenging.

Yes, I have a soldier I've played entirely solo and a siren I've played mostly on co-op and have had fun playing both.

I have a single player character, and it is good to go at your own pace...BUT...the most fun I've had with this game is on multiplayer in an intense fight, right on the verge of losing and saving each other.

Same here.

I always used Survivor mods, which are still good for team play, and only recently started using revolvers. Other than the Hellfire SMG, a 6-round scoped Pestilent Defiler has become my go-to weapon of choice.
