Same here, I rarely even bother looking at the stats of a gun if it doesn't have one of the elemental icons in there.

I have a 996 pt. damage Elephant Sniper Rifle in my backpack, but still take the 350pt. 4x Incendiary Sniper over it every time.

Re: Borderlands

I currently have FIVE versions of the Malawan Volcano, and it's almost always my go-to weapon...especially now that it cools down my bloodwing. It's even good for close range since it has an explosive effect. My most powerful one does 635 damage, and I have two others in the 500s.

My other go-to is the Malawan Hellfire, of which I have 3 different versions. My favorite is scoped with a 12.5 fire-rate, a 36 round clip, and near instant reload. With the shield penetration perk on the hunter, combined with his accuracy, this gun is completely and absurdly unfair, despite the fact that it only does 111 damage. A can reliably snipe with it.

I keep a non-elemental (but double) Savior SMG on-hand for ammo regeneration, and depending on where I am, I have my best caustic or electric SMG in the fourth slot.

Re: Borderlands

See, it's all these incendiary weapons people have equipped why the DLC is so difficult in the beginning. Ninja Assassins aside, when you go out to fight some Lance dudes and those Pyros in in the first wave, your weapons are useless. You end up switching to caustic. Then what? Chemical troopers come out and you have to go back. I really think people aren't running around with different elemental types of the same weapon equipped, but rather different weapons of the same elemental type.

My Siren has for SMGs equipped now, one of each type. I keep some sniper rifles and shotguns in the backpack, but I rarely use them anymore.

With the siren, I didn't see the point of carrying a fire or lighting gun, because of her Phoenix and Electrical phase perks. I think when I last used her, I had her using a caustic weapon...and I may have had an acid artifact on her phasewalk as well.

The other thing with incendiary in particular is that the Volcano and Hellfire have a near 100% chance to ignite a dude, which makes them especially useful for non-siren characters.

I'm not finding the DLC that difficult. If they have a fire element in their name, I use my electrical SMG, and if they don't, I use the Volcano or the Hellfire. For Knoxx, I'm keeping my bird on electrical.

Re: Borderlands

Those perks are shit compared to the weapons though. They produce a very slow bleed with no active damage. You can add a Firefly mod or something and watch the Maliwan SMG go through the roof, especially with a Level 50 SMG proficiency rate of fire and reload. Tormentor mod for increased elemental effect chance or, like me, a bad ass Mercenary mod with +16 SMG Ammo Regen.

I recently redid my skill tree because I got sick of being a fireball with Phoenix. I'm more of a dazzler now with extremely fast cooldown, especially if I wax a guy or two in between - it's almost instant.

Yup! Striking + Dramatic Entrance + Mind Games = Everyone is Dazed.

Re: Borderlands

Perhaps if I'd used her longer, I'd have done the same, but a lot of her perks seemed kind of abstract...where setting a dude on fire made sense to me.

I really struggled with the siren, because I wanted to use her as a ranged character, and she's really not. I also thought that her phase skill was way too short to be useful...or at least it was at level 30. The hunter (or soldier) better fit the style I wanted to play, and I just liked the hunter's bloodwing better than the turret. I just wish I had some of the siren's elemental perks...and I wish someone I played with would use her because she's easy to look at. ;)

I still can't figure out how to effectively use Siren's phase-walk except to run away when things get too hectic.

pinata242 03-03-10 02:41 PM

Re: Borderlands

I primarily use mine to get away, do some blast damage, and heal. It's my healing function. There's also a skill that reduces damage for a period of time coming out of phasewalk so that helps. You can always add shock damage (Radiance) as you walk around with it, but that doesn't help too much in my experience. Also there's the +800% melee damage skill (Phase Strike), but you only get that once per PW and if you miss, you miss. It's still not very strong and not worth the points, imho.

chess 03-03-10 02:50 PM

Re: Borderlands

I use her like a suicide bomber. She does a bunch of proximity damage and elemental damage in phasewalk and exiting phasewalk. Then when I go down, I'm close enough to all the enemies to finish somebody off with an SMG.

I'm sure it's not how it's meant to be done, but she's just such a contradiction!

 I didn't know that. Looks like it's time to respec again.

that is primarily what i use it for. i also use it to travel somewhere faster.

I couldn't imagine running around without the phase running. It saves so much time. Plus you can run right through Spiderant, Skag or Zombie areas avoiding them if you don't want to fight.

That's does explain why I was dropping out of Phasewalk sooner than I thought. I assumed I was accidentally hitting the analog in.

I was shooting for Mind Games next (with my 51-61 lvl points). Looks like I can get there sooner now. Thanks for the link.

Take Two’s just confirmed more Borderlands DLC is on the way.

“We’ll continue to support the title with more digital content,” CEO Ben Feder just said in the company’s Q1 financials call.

He also said the most recent DLC release, The Secret Armory of General Knoxx the “was best scoring and highest reviewed Borderlands DLC so far”.

2K’s released three DLC packs for the game so far since its release in October, including General Knoxx, like The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned and Mad Moxxi’s Underdome Riot.
:fart: It's almost getting to be too much! I wonder if we'll see more level cap increases or more bonus skill points? Eventually, we'll max out the entire skill tree!

Hmmm... I wonder if Borderlands 2 will allow for imported characters.

This is exactly why I'm waiting for a GOTY edition. I've had my eye on this game for a long time, but without deals the amount of DLC so far costs $30-$40? It's great though that they keep improving and building on the game so much. Can't wait to play one day!

Re: Borderlands

I wish you luck. I got the Fallout 3 GOTY a few months ago, but it's almost too daunting to even begin. I fear Borderlands may be that way for new players by then. Just huge.

Re: Borderlands

Meh I'd rather they moved on to Borderlands 2. I love the game, but I think I am just about DLC'ed out at this point.

slop101 03-03-10 06:00 PM

Re: Borderlands

Looks like they're using the game as a platform for more content, like Rock Band does. When they come out with a sequel, I'm sure it'll be completely different from what they can do with DLC.

Michael Corvin 03-03-10 07:01 PM

Re: Borderlands

Awesome news. I'm with piņata, I think waiting for a GOTY edition is the wrong way to go. The game is huge. Find the game for about $30, play through and maybe the DLC might see a sale.

Since I used a shotgun for most of the game, I used PW to get up close and personal. :) Between dazing and blackout, PW charges quickly enough if I get in trouble.

I started the Knoxx addon on Monday and I'm loving it. It's got a nice difficulty to it since the 2nd playthough was too easy. I died more times tonight than I did in all of the 2nd.
And best of all, the droids give me a reason to keep my pair of alien shotguns equipped.

I farmed for an hour or so last night...yet another Volcano sniper rifle.

I did the Corvin method of bringing a lower level character along, and the farming is leveling my Siren up like crazy. Every other run through The Descent = a level increase. She won't be leveled up on weapons, but I'm planning on her using strictly SMGs anyway if I ever use her properly.

Chew/donuts, you guys up for some Knoxx tonight?
