Oh, wait a minute, I'm not scared, I'm mildly amused at the entire situation and really kind of pleased when the giant douchbags that are Sony get some bad (or not as good as expected) news.

Now if you'll excuse me, it's back to hiding under my bed in fear. Er, I mean waiting very impatiently for Uncharted 2 next week.

Moral of story: people aren't scared of Sony selling consoles, Sony has become a bit of a laughing stock (especially with the Go now) and people enjoy reveling in that.

What does it even matter really?

Any real gamer will tell you that it isn't the system that makes the games, it's the games that make the system. All 3 consoles have stellar games, and as such are all good in their own right.

i bought a Wii earlier this year, just sold it to buy a PS3

I bought a PS3 mainly for the Bluray player, gaming being a bonus. The price of the PS3 makes it a good value Bluray player.

I think the death of HD-DVD has helped the PS3 a lot

That's what I did as well. With the systems being the same price, the Blu-Ray player made the 360 seem not as good of a value.

I guess since PS3 outsold the wii this month, we won't have any more of those threads until the Wii starts to be #1 again.

My Wii is gathering dust. I think Prime Trilogy is the only thing I've played on it this year other than maybe an hour or so of Mad World prior to selling it.

I am looking forward to some upcoming Wii games though (NSMB, SMBG2, Metroid), and I almost picked up Tiger 10 with WiiMotion Plus.

My PS3 gets turned on every day...even if it's just for a movie.

It will be interesting to see the numbers through January. Hopefully Sony got the message not to price their next system so high.

The PS2 keeps chugging along which I think is a good story in itself.

I saw someone in Target picking up GH5 for the PS2 the other day. Bizarre.

Hopefully Sony sticks with their current marketing company. They finally got it right. I've enjoyed every new commercial they've done.

I'm really pleased with the convergence of the slim, the price point and the marketing. I'm also happy that we're seeing some terrific software. As I said earlier, having two healthy competitors in the HD gaming market really serves us all well.

That said, a month does not make a trend. My guess is that Sony carries some healthy momentum into the holidays, but really, anything can happen.

Well, obviously their next system is not going to be priced much higher, if any higher, than the competition. Much of the reason the PS3 cost so much because they just happened to be using a brand new storage technology in order to push a new movie format. The same thing would have happened if someone tried to launch a console with DVD in 1997. Next time around, I presume BD will be sufficient, and the cost will be much cheaper.

However, it could be $400 if they make it powerful again, just as the 360's successor could as well. I know people think $300 is the appropriate launch price for any console, but these systems have things that many past consoles lacked, like wi-fi and a large hard drive. The controllers are more expensive too, and inflation is a factor. So, the price will probably depend on whether they push the specs or not. $300 is possible if it's a system with not much of a processing leap. There was a rumor that they would be considering doing just that.
