The PSPgo, what a horrible idea.
Since this is coming out on the 1st and didn’t see anything posted on it I thought we could discuss. Let’s not turn this into a Sony bashing thread this is clearly about the PSPgo.
My take on this is I think this is a horrible, horrible idea by Sony. I really hope they aren’t considering this a successor to the PSP because it clearly is not it (I hope it isn’t it).
There is no incentive to upgrade to this system if you have a PSP. You can’t play your UMDs that you have and unless Sony can figure out some method for people to make digital copies of their UMDs I don’t see much reason to buy a PSPgo.
Retailers don’t have any incentive to carry this because their hope is a person who buys a system will buy a few games at the same time with some accessories thrown in. In this case, no one will be buying any games for that system in the store unless they can buy some prepaid cards to redeem games, but I don’t see how that’s going to be very attractive to buyers. I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to be forced into buying all my games from Sony. I don’t see them running many sales…
Clearly, Sony is taking a chance on this, but I don’t think they have a chance in hell.
What do you think?

Considering how horribliy PSP games sell, this actually isn't a terrible idea. Conceptually I like it, but yeah, need some serious storage on this mother bitch.
I do agree, it is poorly priced... and the controls look a bit uncomfortable.

Not a fan that there will be no price competition. If you don't like the price of a certain game, tough! And $250 is laughable. I never owned a PSP, but this doesn't give me that much desire to jump in...

I wouldn't even pay $150 for it. I do think the main selling point behind this thing is supposed to be the mini games you can buy but why would we buy a whole extra device for just that? I still use my first version PSP when I play a PSP game. DS gets almost all my portable gaming though.

Sonly always starts out their new products at a high price point. The PS3 originally retailed for $600 bucks.
The only real selling point is the mini games you can download like the
Iphone. I certainly will never buy one. I don't have any easy access to wifi, and never get online with my PSP.

I agree with all of these points. The PSPGo seems destined for failure from the GetGo. All I can think of is that it would make a really good topic for an SNL Weekend Update "Really?? With Seth and Amy" segment.

Will old PSP's be able to play the new minis?

No way this will replace the PSP. It'll flop with gamers and only get a few sales from the uninformed. Retailers hate it, as you expect, but aren't willing to say "No" to Sony over this for a fear of future embargoes.
They'll stock it and, hopefully, talk shoppers out of it in favor for the better-for-everyone PSPStop.

I hate UMDs myself but I will always prefer a way to purchase the physical media over only downloadable content. I assume the PSPgo has Memory stick slots though, and don't they sell games on the memory sticks now?

So how cheap does this thing have to get before you guys jump? I admit, there are a handful of games on the PSP I'd like to play, but I've never really wanted to get a system. I wouldn't mind terribly going this route if the system was dirt cheap.

Pssh, so short sighted. It'll be fine once it's a phone.
