360 Network Adapter

As of the end of the month, I will be moving out of my small cramped apartment into a house. Currently, my router isn't too far from where my 360is so I have an ethernet cable connected between the two so I can utilize XBL. However, with the new house I will have the 360 in my family room and my router in either another room or on another floor completely.

I am not too fond on paying $100 for something that should cost me $30. I was wondering if anyone on here has an alternative that they use. A quick search looks like you can use a wireless bridge but I am not too sure on how all that works.

You can use a router that has a "bridge" function. I'm not too sure of the process in using a router, do a search online.

Re: 360 Network Adapter

I've flashed several routers in the past with 3rd party firmware (dd-wrt or tomato) that can turn the router into a multi-port wireless bridge.

There are pros and cons to getting the official adapter. There are pros and cons for using a bridge.

Would it be possible to run in-wall CAT from point-to-point?

Wireless ethernet bridge has the benefit of being able to be used on pretty much any device with a wired network interface. You can even connect a switch and use the wireless ethernet bridge on multiple devices. Most wireless ethernet bridges are expensive though.

I have used a wireless ethernet bridge on both an original xbox and a 360. I just recently reconnected my original xbox with it. Here's the one I have:

I used it for a while on my HD-DVD player and had no issues with it for that purpose either.

But you can use any of them (Here's an example).

I currently have both of my 360's connected using proprietary Xbox 360 wireless adapters since I found good deals on them (I got one at launch for $40, and another more recently even cheaper direct through MS). I have no complaints about them (other than they can't be used on another device), but would not have paid full MSRP for them.

Here's some info on converting a linksys router to be used as a bridge:

Personally unless you get a great deal on the proprietary adapter, I'd go for the bridge or converting a router as it can be of much more use than just for your 360.

Re: 360 Network Adapter

I have a wireless G gaming adapter from belkin. Cost like $30 on amazon when I got it. It's great for everything but gaming where my TV is. It works better than the official MS 360 Wireless adapter because I have one of those too. When I watch movies on 360 or download updates I use wireless. When I wanna play a lagfree game I break out the 50 foot cat-5e and use that as I have thus far been to lazy to put it in the wall.
