What?! Yes, it's the first village. Find a shotgun in the second house on the left on the second level?! Seriously, how would anybody KNOW that?!
I guess I'm old.

trial, error and running really quickly searching the place i guess. it is the house with the rooves and villagers throwing things off them. fence around it that you can jump over or go through the entrance. go in, push some bookshelves to block entrance (to give some time) and go upstairs, shotgun, flash grenade right up the stairs. go around to bed and i think there is shotgun shells waiting for you. it should help, but you still got to work and be vigilant. after some time and kills the rest of the villagers run away...

Does Rock Band count? I think I've played this, Halo 2, and Burnout Paradise the most.
NES Contra I must've beaten at least 50 times.

I wouldn't have thought of Adventure for the 2600, but that probably is the game I've completed the most amount of times. I'm sure it's in the hundreds. Primitive speed runs, collecting the "dot," gathering every available item in the yellow castle, etc. Also, setting up custom layouts - hiding items in difficult locations and arranging the dragons using the bat, etc. thanks to the Atari's restart switch which resurrects you and the dragons, but leaves all the items where they are.
And then break out the window, climb onto the roof and run around it to the right until you reach the end. Turn around and you're at just about the only place in that level where you don't have to worry about being attacked from behind and you can pick off the villagers as they round the corner.

Regarding Resident Evil 4, another important strategy to use is to shoot them in the leg, then run up and do a melee on 'em. You can conserve a LOT of ammo this way, and it's pretty effective.

DOOM, when that came out I remember sitting in at home in the den in the dark for hours. I played at work but it was better at home. Sneaking around those maps hearing the snorting and grunts and then opening up with the shotgun or gatling. THe atmosphere was incredible. Meat and horror all around you, monsters that were relentless. Beating some of the big guys was great. I was never immersed in a game like that.

good one. except when the parasites burst from the villagers heads. then, you got to keep your distance bc they have long tentacles that zip and spike you. man...i love this game!!

...Seriously.
Okay. I will try this game again this fall and let you know how it goes. My first problem is not being very good with the controls scheme so maybe that's the first thing to work on. I was a master at Goldeneye, but all the Halo / Resident Evil movement / pivot stuff is over my head.

Resident Evil 1, 2, and 4 are among my most-played games of all time, along with the obvious classics (SMB, etc). As for this generation, Rock Band 2 and Burnout Paradise are the clear front-runners. I spent a lot of time with GH3 before I got a PS3 and sold my Wii, and I'm sure Wii Sports got more attention than it deserved too.

Re: What game have you completed the most?
all i did at first was run and search and die many many times. not really rocket science and not a lot of games know-how to do. believe me i know less about games and how to play them then just about anyone. i still have only a Gamecube for goodness sake! but, i was able to master this and probably only this game with lots lots lots of trial, error and continuous retrying. i am no gamer, but certain games i love and stick with and this was one in only a handful and so very wotrth it.

Resident Evil 2 also stands out for me. There was a time where I could run through it with Leon on standard difficulty in about an hour and 50 minutes. Certainly not a record speed run or anything, but I got to be really efficient at not shooting anything and running away

Semantics bullshit - those games can't be completed and you know it!
And telling me to relax is just riling me up even more - way to go!
