The laptop is a few years old, and the guys at the repair shop said it wouldn't be worth it -- given parts and labor -- to replace the screen as opposed to buying a new one, so I decided I might as well use the occasion to upgrade.

I've never broken anything, but I can't say I haven't launched quite a few controllers. But I've always been one to aim right at the ground in front of me to avoid collateral damage.

I hear ya, but yeah, it's really easy to do on your own.

But if it's an excuse to buy a new fancy toy, why the hell not

I paid $74.99 (plus tax) retail for Final Fantasy II for the SNES. That was when minimum wage was $3.80/hour.

Way before all the Wii-mote to the plasma antics I launched a Sega Genesis controller into a TV after a particularly frustrating game of Bill Walsh College Football. It was an expensive lesson but I haven't thrown a controller since. And I still maintain that that game cheated.

It didn't just bounce off of a tube tv? Shocking....

Until you are hurting so much that you can't go to work and it costs you a days pay. Ouch!

Taking out your aggression on poor innocent electronics... Don't you people have a wife or dog to beat instead?

At this point I've found a spot that feels no pain. One time I missed and punched my knee though. That was unpleasant.

I had a friend who used to break his controllers in half when he got upset, which seemed stupid. I just get incredibly upset, and grip the controller pretty tight. I initially want to chuck it across the room, but never do. Too many expensive items along the walls, and it's better to control my temper. At that point, I either try again, or just shut the game off.

Broke a DS3 playing GOW3 the other day. One of the Real Triggers flew off, and I can't find it. So I need to buy a new $45 controller and $5 for another set of triggers.
