Re: HALO 3: ODST (Official)
Quote: so this is really like an expansion pack?
will the new campaign be as long as Halo3?
I'm not interested in multiplayer
There are more on the forum that know moe than me on this but to answer your question...

Expansion Pack?.....NO this is completely different and no "Master Chief". I guess it depends on how you view it as a timeline of part of the Halo Universe. New characters, new missions, new surroundings and new style of play. You'll have more freedom and choices with puzzel solving. Smae shootem' up and same and new enemies.

Not sure on the length but something added and many are looking forward to is the new "Firefight Mode" which is Halos version of Gears Horde mode. Also a big plus is adding night time scenes.

Check here for more info of the game...

I'll add it may be worth it to view the Firefight trailer titled "Bip,Bap,Bam" (109mb)

Re: HALO 3: ODST (Official)
Teamxbox has a sort of list up entitled..

9 Things We Can Tell you About Halo:ODST.....

The Plot Unfurls Unlike Any Other Halo Game
Halo 3: ODST tells a much smaller and more straightforward story about a squad of Orbital Drop Shock Troopers (kind of like the UNSC’s special forces) on a single mission and it takes place over the course of one night.Unfortunately, the team gets separated, and in the main thread of the game, you play as The Rookie as he tries to find his lost teammates in the occupied city and rally with them.

You Will Find Out Who the Superintendent Is
Superintendent, a faceless, voiceless character who sees and knows all that goes on in New Mombasa, and who will help you along your way with clues and information. Who or what the Superintendent is, that’s the big mystery of Halo 3: ODST

There’s a Story Within the Story
Halo 3: ODST crafts an entirely separate storyline through audio logs found around the city of Mombasa, one that is compelling and dramatic and actually worth listening to

There Are No Elites
Of all the Covenant forces you face in the streets of New Mombasa, you’ll never duke it out with Covenant Elites. You’ll see a couple of dead ones, that’s for sure, but your main enemies in Halo 3: ODST are the Brutes, backed up by Grunts, Jackals, Drones and Hunters. Everyone except the Elites. In fact, it will even be pointed out to you that it seems that the dead Elites on the ground have been killed by Covenant weaponry

You’ll Want to Stick Around Until the End of the Credits
There is an epilogue. You’ll want to watch it. I can’t say anything about it, other than I’m pretty sure it leaves the door open for a sequel

Firefight Mode Will Own You
Firefight is a ton of fun, but it will also take over your life. Playing a round that lasts 45 minutes is not out of the ordinary, and some matches can go on for literally hours. This is not one of those “I’m gonna get a quick game in before bedtime” modes. This is a “I think I might need to take the next couple days off from work” mode. attention in all kinds of different directions. Firefight will likely push Halo 3: ODST back up to the top of the Xbox Live games-played leaderboards.

There Will Be Vehicles
You’ll engage in some vehicle-centric missions unlike any you’ve ever played in a Halo game. See, I already feel like I’m going too far. Trust me on this, though, that vehicles are integral to Halo 3: ODST, especially if you can find one to help you get around the city when you’re playing as The Rookie. Hint: Find those audio logs to unlock a Mongoose

There Will be Skulls
The skulls in Halo 3: ODST are a series of power-ups (or power-downs) that you can turn on for Firefight Mode or just in the campaign for an extra dose of challenge or fun. Some of the harder achievements require you to have certain skulls turned on in different situations, and in Firefight Mode, they automatically come on to ramp up the difficulty as you progress

You Can Play Firefight Without Your Helmet
Since none of the characters in Halo 3: ODST is a Spartan, we actually get to see all of their faces. Well, everyone but The Rookie. You also get to unlock each of them as playable characters in Firefight, and once there you can customize your armor a bit including the ability to take off their helmets

I am so looking forward to this. With the extra 5$ gift certificate (HALOODST) along with the already 10$ one in place, and the ECA discount, this is a must have. Halo games just feel right, and I have yet to be even slightly disappointed in a Halo Game...even the ending of 2.

Just read the post before this (the 9 bullet points), which sold me on the game, so I went to Amazon and pre-ordered it. Then i read your post with the $5 code. Going to cancel and re-order.

EDIT: Now the code doesn't work. Any ideas?

Did you try it without the ()...you will get an extra 5 credit along with the 10...so in your checkout it will not show it as anything other then another 0.0 promotion...so you should have two 0 dollar promotions on top of the ECA discount.

I think it is one-time use. I used it and later signed up for prime so I canceled that order and re-ordered and it wouldn't take it on the new order.

That sucks...I guess tax aside, the Toys R Us deal is the best bet then. (20$ GC with an action figure)

Not sure what the ECA is...but the code states it's an invalid code when I try to enter it. And yeah, no ().

Don't know if this has been mentioned yet, but ODST will also include access to the Halo: Reach beta.

Quote:
Bungie is trying to make entry into Halo: Reach's beta as easy as possible -- at least if you pick up Halo 3 ODST next month. Bungie explained to Joystiq at GamesCom ODST's main menu will host an "extras" tab, which will contain access to the Reach beta once it activates sometime next year.

Re: HALO 3: ODST (Official)
Do we have confirmation on the length of the single-player campaign yet?

I've heard as short as 4 hours, as long as 12 and everything in between.

Re: HALO 3: ODST (Official)
Halo 3 wasn't even 12 hours so whoever wrote that is on something.

Re: HALO 3: ODST (Official)
Here's some info on game length:

Quote:
In terms of gameplay length of the ODST single-player campaign, it's not exactly clear what we're dealing with. During the gameplay presentation, Microsoft said it will be "massive...probably bigger than the campaigns in other FPS titles available today", but later, Crosby admits: "it won't be, in my mind as long [as Halo 3] to play through. If you play through and go really quickly, it won't be as long as Halo 3 in terms of hours, but it is big and it's full. There's a full story told in there."

Quote:
Much has been speculated about the length of the ODST campaign - Bungie originally called it 3-5 hours, but then vastly expanded the content, and now hems and haws when asked for a specific number (since that number is dependent on a LOT of variables). Folks rushing through leaked games on Easy or Normal have finished the game in 4 hours, leading some to conclude that it really IS a short game. I'm not going to provide actual numbers - just a comparison. I played Halo 3: ODST for the first time exactly the same way I played Halo 3 for the first time: in a comfortable chair in front of a great TV (see the photo in the Dime Magazine article) in a New York Hotel, on Heroic difficulty - and it took me roughly 80% as long to finish ODST as it did to finish Halo 3. So if you whipped through Halo 3 in 5 hours the first time through, this one will be doable in 4. If you took 12 hours to get through Halo, count on 9-10 for ODST. And so on. It's a solid campaign - it did NOT feel like an expansion. And I'm looking forward to many, many replays. (Although I wasn't rushing, I still missed stuff, and I'm happy that the next few runs will still yield things I haven't experienced yet.)

Quote:
It took us nine and a half hours to finish the single player campaign on Heroic, sixty minutes longer than initial estimates. That's because we spent a good chunk of time dying. It's one thing to blow through Halo 3 as the super powered Master Chief. Running and gunning in ODST as The Rookie and his comrades, however, takes a certain amount of skill. Unlike the Chief, they don't have radar, an energy shield or the ability to dual wield. Now imagine going up against at least ten Covenant with just a handful of bullets in each weapon. Bottom line, gamers looking for a fight will get it, and then some.

Yeah, and a 9.0 from IGN...I am a little disappointed in the single player length...6 hours???? I am glad I got this for 54 bucks from amazon, and another 15 bucks coming back in gift certificates........

Re: HALO 3: ODST (Official)
6 hours for a game is PERFECT...I don't know why people complain. I HATE games that are like 15-20 hours, it takes too long and I always have a new game coming out to play. For Halo, I can pop it in tomorrow morning on my day off and be done in the afternoon...it's perfect. Then I can finish up some Batman and whatever else comes out in a few days.
