Seriously ... when will we get 80s hair bands like the GH franchise had. |

Could always use more Journey

Re: Rock Band: Official Thread
You guys are talking about having enough variety and looks to fill a game, but having a band with hits, or in Metallica's case, a huge (underground) following is needed. While David Bowie has been around longer than music itself, and has gone from Tranny-excentric to GQ-hipster, I don't think he has enough hits to sell enough copies of the stand-alone game. How about Rod Stewart? He follows the same criteria as Bowie...been around forever, more hits, and a variety of looks.
While I LOVE Black Sabbath, I feel the same way about them. Outside of 8-10 songs, how many people would be into the game enough to drop $60? Everyone has a favorite band that they feel deserves the royal treatment, but I honestly feel there are only a handful that would sell it. Aerosmith was one of them, but they fucked that up with a poor song selection. KISS (maybe), Zeppelin, and the Stones are the only ones I see worthy of a full disc game. As U2 keeps being discussed, how about Def Leppard? They have just as many hits as U2. Motley Crue? Why not? Guns n Roses? Elvis? Eric Clapton? Ozzy (including Black Sab)? Nirvana? Skynyrd? Fleetwood Mac? There are plenty of bands that (I feel) could sell as many copies of the game as U2, but unfortunately (I feel) they wouldn't sell enough. |

Def Leppard is as big as U2? Nirvana and their two studio albums? Crue? Seriously????? :hscratch: U2 has been the undisputed biggest, most important rock band for at least 22 years now. They were selling out football stadiums worldwide in 1987 and still are today. You want to compare that to a guy who can't keep a reality show on the air for even four episodes? Or the remnants of a once-good southern rock band who will be playing at my local off-strip casino in a couple of weeks? If U2 isn't your taste, that's fine. But don't kid yourself about their importance in the annals of rock. They're absolutely top five all-time whether you like it or not. |
Re: Rock Band: Official Thread
David Bowie's hits/commonly recognizable songs:
Space Oddity The Man Who Sold The World Changes Life On Mars? Starman Ziggy Stardust Sufragette City The Jean Genie Diamond Dogs Rebel Rebel Young Americans Fame Golden Years "Heroes" DJ Look Back In Anger Boys Keep Swinging Ashes To Ashes Fashion Under Pressure Modern Love China Girl Let's Dance Blue Jean I'm Afraid of Americans And that's just the stuff that would normally show up on a best of. Once you start including things like Queen Bitch, Panic In Detroit, Hang Onto Yourself, Station To Station, TVC-15, Sound and Vision, Cat People (Putting Out Fire), and many many more amazing tracks, you'd have a game that would be pretty outstanding. Also, from a musical importance perspective, Bowie's legacy is unassailable. He's namechecked as the father of an incredibly diverse set of genres. When you've got Bauhaus, Madonna, and Nine Inch Nails all hailing you as a dominant influence, you know you're reaching more than just a select group of people. Edit: I just sent an email to Harmonix suggesting this be their next artist-specific title. It may not have much effect, but it can't hurt, either. |
Re: Rock Band: Official Thread
I don't think Bowie is mainstream enough to even make a 10 pack marketable.

added: nevermind .. these are simply previously-available DLC released on a disc. I mean one like the country disc with all NEW music. Give me a disc with Stryper, King's X, Warrant, Firehouse, and the like. |

That was the last track pack they'll put out that won't have timed exclusive songs though, since Country and Metal are like that. You just asked for 70's and 80's rock on a disc. That's what that is. |
Re: Rock Band: Official Thread
I disagree, PerryD. Even though U2 has put out new albums, I wouldn't say they have been relevant either. It isn't like either band has had major hits recently. I don't even think I've heard a single song from the newest U2 album (except that one that is being used in the commercial). Sure, they are popular, but I think both groups would be quite successful in RB.
pinata - I should have been more specific, as I figured that most of us have the majority of the DLC at this point. |

For some reason, I'm reminded of this thread: http://forum.dvdtalk.com/music-talk/...turing-u2.html
I think I'm going to go back through those posts. |

Since 1987, they've released eight studio albums. Seven went to #1, and the only one that didn't top the charts was All That You Can't Leave Behind, released in 2000 which went quadruple Platinum in the US and won the Record of the Year Grammy (the industry award for best single) in both 2001 and 2002 for "Beautiful Day" and "Walk On" respectively. Even if you consider their most recent album a disappointment, it only is by their high standards and has sold over 5 million copies worldwide so far. |
Re: Rock Band: Official Thread
U2 sucks balls...that game would sell worse than the upcoming Van Halen game will. Led Zepp may be the only remaining big band, but most people that play these games are "kids" who do not like that kind of music. Sadly, as good as Zep would be, and as awesome as the Beatles game is...they would not/will not sell well. Now, make a Rock Band: Tool or Rock Band: Fall Out Boy and they will sell a ton...
|
Re: Rock Band: Official Thread
Hmm... pretty sure Tool fans and Fall Out Boy fans aren't the same fans.
I would like to see at least some U2 songs. But I'm getting Tom Petty so it's all good. |

There may be some argument about AC/DC, Van Halen, Aerosmith vs U2, but Def Leppard? Really? They had 2 big albums which contained pretty much all of their hits, spanning a couple year period over 20 years ago. They have not been relevant since then. And this is coming from a fan of Def Leppard. U2 has had many many more hits, and they have been spread out from their first album (New Years Day in 1981) to today where they are still releasing singles and videos.

Personally I don't think U2 needs a standalone game, but I'd love to see a 20 song track pack consisting of: I Will Follow Gloria Sunday Bloody Sunday New Year's Day Like A Song Two Hearts Beat As One A Sort of Homecoming Bad Where The Streets Have No Name Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For With Or Without You In God's Country Angel of Harlem Zoo Station One Until The End of The World Mysterious Ways Zooropa Lemon The Wanderer |
Re: Rock Band: Official Thread
I would take most of those and add:
Pride (In the Name of Love) Bullet the Blue Sky Exit Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) Desire The Fly Ultra Violet Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me Discotheque (for the costumes alone ;)) Beautiful Day Walk On In a Little While Electrical Storm Vertigo No Line on the Horizon Magnificent I'd really like to include Stay (Faraway, So Close) as it's one of my favorite songs, but I don't know if it work well for the game. It's kind of slow. |
Re: Rock Band: Official Thread
I think U2 could warrant their own game. But if not, I'd kill just to have "The Fly" as DLC. I love the Edge's work in that song.
|
Re: Rock Band: Official Thread
:horse: Warning
You could throw darts at the U2 catalog and get songs that would be incredibly fun on all instruments. The Edge, I think, would just be one of those guitarists that fit the game format perfectly. His riffs are accessible but still incredibly fun. And Larry Mullen is an underrated drummer. IMO, Mullen really is the backbone of the band. Bono and the Edge get the press, but have you ever really listened to some of Mullen's work on those early albums? No matter what you think, these are talented musicians. Bono's showboating shouldn't detract from the abilities of the rest of the band. I just went through all the U2 albums on my iPod (which is all except Under a Blood Red Sky -- I'll have to dig that out of the basement to finish the job) and I came up with a 37 song tracklist that could easily fill a standalone game. I agree that the Beatles were the obvious and best choice for an entire standalone game. There really isn't anyone else in their league in terms of breadth and depth of catalog. That's not something that can be argued. However, when the Beatles game sells like gangbusters, we know that won't be the end. And if anyone else is worthy of that treatment, it's U2. ...or Toad the Wet Sprocket. Okay, maybe not Toad but can we at least get something?? C'mon. Please? "Fall Down?" Please? Or anything from Dulcinea? |
Re: Rock Band: Official Thread
Rock Band: Locksley.

Re: Rock Band: Official Thread
I really don't understand the desire to have Harmonix do the very thing we are bitching about Activision doing. I don't want a bunch of standalone artist exclusive games. Track packs via DLC will be fine.
I love the Grateful Dead. They have a bunch of variety and a built-in fan base. They have released 2 big track packs as DLC and that was fine for me. I would like more mind you but i am happy having them nicely integrated into my normal set lists. |
