Leaked images of PS3 Slim - possibly

Saw the below posted on another site

Pictures of what appears to be a redesigned PS3 have appeared on Chinese message boards.

Fake? Maybe. But its worth noting that the PSP-3000 was revealed in much the same way, and those images were also greeted with skepticism.

Could this be a move by Sony to get the price down?

If this is a fake mockup, it is one of the most realistic fake mockups I have ever seen.

How could they get a hard drive in that?

nevermind; just realized it's only the top

Matte Case >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Gloss Case.

To me, that is the natural next step. Why can't the PS3 be as thin as a laptop? Laptops have almost all the same hardware than a PS3, including Hard Drive, disc drive (BD/DVD/etc.), USB connection, a fan, etc.

Think about power supply. The PS3 would require a brick external to the unit to make it slimmer.

I hope this means the price will go down so I can finally buy one.

Going from the last three years, I have a couple predictions. It's going to be $700 and will replace all other existing sku's. Also, it's going to use a new method of processing and games designed for it won't play on other models of PS3. It will feature a totally revamped version of Home in which your virtual house appears in your physical location in the world via Google maps. To play with someone online, you'll have to drive to their house in real time via an in-Home automobile, unless you want to spend 400 Sony Points on a virtual airline ticket.

Just as long as they don't enforce dress codes, I'd hate to have to buy a $2 virtual three piece suit.

That's true.

That is, of course, ridiculous. Everyone knows the PSN uses actual currency, not points.

Honestly, the "home" feature is a serious waste of space for me. The price tag coupled with the non-compatibiity issues make this one a serious no-brainer. The current "3" is just getting its stride as far as I'm concerned. Great games and the ability to upgrade your storage are awesome factors for keeping the current model. this really seems like an unnecessary redo. No sale here.

Some people here actually use Home? I never even bothered to download it.

The Xi thing has really drawn me in. I log on and do the puzzles ever 3 or 4 days. That will be over soon though.

I will admit those pictures look fairly legit, but I just don't see how they could shrink the PS3 down that much. Just removing the power supply doesn't seem enough and I can only imagine the failure rates due to heat on a PS3 that compact.

Too bad there isn't a blurb on backwards compatibility on the box. Come on Sony! Put it in there. You know there are lots of people who would love to get rid of their PS2.

Looks VERY convincing.

Instead of making it slim they need to make it bigger (like a PC) with better airflow and heat reduction to reduce the number of systems getting the YLOD. I can see one of these frying within 30 minutes of gameplay unless they have significantly reduced the heat that this system creates.

I'm pretty sure there wouldn't be a slim unless the hardware has been improved to support it.

I think it's bogus. Why would Sony change up the logo in mid-console cycle? Also why show an aerial view of the redesigned console on the box? That doesn't showcase the form factor at all.

because it is bogus
I'm sure it is either a fake or a prototype design that existed at some point

It's certainly an elaborate one.

They haven't done much to improve the staus quo model to keep them from getting the YLOD so what makes you think that this new, slimmer model would produce any less heat and be more efficient?
