Bundle sales of RE5 do not show in that number. So its very possible RE5 sold even more copies on 360 since they are not counted (how many consoles were produced, 20k?)

With Wal-Mart being the largest retailer in the world, I wonder what the real numbers would look like if they were included. Even for titles like Chinatown Wars, etc.

Resident Evil hasn't been associated with PlayStation for years now. The last four major titles in the series all debuted on Nintendo consoles, and of those only one (RE4) got a Sony port.

NPD number actually "include" Wal-Mart. They make an estimation/analysis/whatever to include Wal-Mart and online. I think Amazon doesn't supply sale numbers to NPD either, so they have to estimate.

In otherwords, it's all a load of rubbish.

I mean, the following was probably gold at Walmart, Gold Jerry, Gold!

Clearly these fake NPD numbers are pulled out of a hat.

Ignore the fact that these companies voluntarily pay tens of thousands of dollars for them each month... since they're "stunningly accurate", as Peter Moore once described them in his MS days.

They're actually worthless without Wal-Mart.

Yeah, I'd forgotten that KZ2 dropped at the end of Feb. Anyways, here's an article about that game's sales.

Killzone 2 sales top 1 million

Yesterday, the NPD Group released its March US game-industry sales numbers. Besides revealing the less-than-90,000-unit launch of Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, the figures showed that the heavily hyped Killzone 2 had a middling month, coming in at seventh place with 296,000 units. Coupled with the 323,000 units that it sold in February, the game's US total now stands at 619,000 units--nearly equaling the original Killzone's entire life-to-date haul.

Sony Computer Entertainment was also quick to point out that US sales are just part of the global picture. "With more than 1 million copies sold worldwide and a truly only-on-PlayStation experience, the hit game has garnered the biggest initial success at retail of any first-party PS3 title to date, and will continue to drive incentive for hardware sales throughout the year," the company crowed in a statement.

Killzone 2 is also currently available in Japan and in Europe, where it was developed at the Sony-owned, Amsterdam-based Guerilla Games. Though it received critical plaudits for its intense graphics--first teased via the controversial E3 2005 trailer--the game's sleek visuals did not come cheap. According to a 2006 article in the Dutch newspaper de Volksrant, Killzone 2 is the most expensive entertainment project in the Netherlands' history, with a budget of around €16 million--approximately $21 million at today's exchange rates.

Luckily, Killzone 2 will continue to generate income for Sony postrelease. The game will get its first downloadable content update--the Steel and Titanium Map Pack--on April 30, although prices for the add-on have yet to be announced

And Sega said they were pleased with the sales numbers. I wonder what kind of budget it had?

I doubt they were pleased, at those sales numbers they almost certainly made a loss. Still, the game will hopefully keep selling. And maybe they can do some cross merchandising like a comic book along with a rerelease around November.

What else could they say publicly. However, I don't see how this title and House of the Dead Overkill could have been budgeted for sales this low. I doubt the sales for these titles do anything unless they drop them to $20. A publisher would have to be crazy at this point to make an M rated title on a Nintendo platform. When the Conduit also comes out and tanks that will be just about it for any kind of third party "core" gaming on Wii.

I think it depends on the title. You won't see mario kart numbers for an M title, but you could see Resident Evil 4 Wii-make numbers for the right title.

Re: March NPD Sales Numbers

Wow, Halo wars didn't do that bad at all, given that i didn't even know it was released... Well, same as Pokemon, i think they're running out of colors. Anyhow, i guess all comes down to what game you want to play and honestly, i'm almost always behind. Currently, i'm playing Prince of Persia and i have to say, it's a great game and considering i paid $34 for it (Limited Edition too), money well spent. As for RE5, my copy is still sealed (got the CE).
