Just played the demo.

Stylish.
Smooth (graphically).
Weird music.
I have no idea what the hell's going on, either in story or gameplay.

I played the demo and what a pile of crap. It looks great and is very flashy, but the gameplay is dull, the camera is worse than Ninja Gaiden Black, and all in all, cluster-f is the best word to describe it.

It's basically a more stylish version of Devil May Cry 4 with abysmal gameplay.

Re: Bayonetta Trailer (Platinum Games, Xbox 360/PS3)

I got to play a bit of the full game tonight, and rotfl this game is pretty solid. It's so gloruiously over the top, every anime cliche crushed into one -- demons, stripping naked and transforming, killing enemies by the groves in the most over the top way, tons of posing, cheeky dialog, ridiculously over the top covers of american music. Total Sega-referential game too (Eggman, the coins, etc; )

The gameplay is a good deal of fun thus far (the melee is dull but the gunplay is great, though the melee has gotten better since the beginning). But I do have to say, what an absolutely terrible first impression the game makes with the free fall sequence. I had no issue with the camera and the graphics vary from poor to great depending on the level. Mostly toward the "this was a cheap game to develop" side in terms of visuals, everything else has been solid though.

I liked the section of the demo where you could learn the moves. There were a plethora of neat combos there. However, when the game started I couldn't make heads or tails of what was going on.

the demo skull fucked me...I was just jumping around, not having any idea at all wtf was going on. It got a little better by the end, and I am sure if you play the game it will makes sense, but what a bad part of the game to demo.

Yeah the very beginning is terrible. The demo may kill this game at retail, which is a shame. The game (from what I've played) is basically a less repetitive Devil May Cry with many more weapons, a better sense of campy humor, better storytelling and better dialog/voice acting. The game knows what it is. There is a lot of atmosphere to the game, which is great, and the seamless branching from current day to flashback works well.

The bosses so far are neat and well designed.

When her "suit" forms into something to attack the enemy it's a tad odd, it actually looks like her hair and pubes combined to attack the bad guys which I'm sure was intentional. The Torture attacks are humorous (guillotine, iron maiden, etc; ) and the "I'm a bit... I mean a witch." achievement was worth a slight chuckle.

The demo should have been Chapter 1 and not the Prologue. It's a surprisingly fun game.

Maybe the problem I was having was the fast scrolling background, with the enemies and the platforms being of a very similar color. To be honest I'm not really pressed to play this game (I'm kind of over the whole Devil May Cry/God of Way style game), but I can see how this game could be fun.

Played the demo for 2 minutes, turned it off, and deleted it.

That part is just a slightly interactive story cut scene. You can't die (I don't think) and there's narrative to get things started. They should have left it as a cut scene.

I had more fun with this demo than any other demo in recent memory.

Same here. I haven't ever really been a huge fan of these types of games, but I thought it was fantastic. I can't say I will play through the entire game, but I am definitely going to rent it. I loved how ridiculous and over the top everything was.

Agree 100%

I was impressed. I really didn't think I'd like it as much as I did (see earlier post below).

I read an article about this game in Gameinformer months ago and the whole shoe gun thing just sounded stupid. Since I'm not a huge fan of DMC, this game doesn't look like fun. I guess the Japanese/Japanese game fan gamers love this shit.

But who knows, maybe I'll pick it up when it hits $19....maybe.

And FWIW, that includes the God of War 3 demo.

Apparently, there's a lot of slow down and loading times on the PS3 version.

If anyone cares, it looks like most Best Buys are already selling this - YMMV, but I've seen it at a few different stores already this week.

I didn't care for the demo at all. It felt too chaotic and the controls didn't feel as intuitive and easy as God of War. The blasting Japanese music didn't help either.

Completely agree. I guess I just don't "get it"...

Naw you got it fine, the beginning of the game / demo is just really Japanese.

The game cools off a bit when Chapter 1 begins.

Re: Bayonetta Trailer (Platinum Games, Xbox 360/PS3)

Yeah, that intro segment was basically just a flashy cut-scene where they let you press some buttons. The actual gameplay is more in line with the later enemy encounters by the water fountains.

Re: Bayonetta Trailer (Platinum Games, Xbox 360/PS3)

So I played this for about 3 hours last night (though it only felt like one hour), and not only is it a fuck-ton of fun, but it constantly blew me away with it's over the top set pieces - it's seriously one of the best looking games I've seen, though more from a design aspect than a technical one, it's no less of a visual masterpiece that will make your eyes bleed.

And as if the exemplary design wasn't enough, the game just keeps giving you so many things: guns, swords, techniques, moves, abilities and so much more; I can see it never getting old, as there's just so many ways to go about destroying angels and the like. The gameplay also has such a nice visceral and crunchy feel to it that it's even fun to just button mash, though once you get the hang of it, and figure out what to do, you'll get the game and better understand the designers intention and marvel at the games greatness. Which is ironic with all the cheesy fan-service the game has - it's definitely a guilty pleasure that I wouldn't want someone else seeing me play.

Believe all the hype, praise and great reviews - this game fucking delivers!
