Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition

Any idea what the cost is?

On a side note, that recent R&C, Quest for Booty sale had me finally go back and play (and finish) R&C Future: Tools of Destruction.

Tools of Destruction was great, I wish I had played through it sooner, and I'm looking forward to going through it again to be able to afford the insane weapon upgrades.

Playing QFB so soon after was a huge letdown, though. Didn't seem like anything carried over from the last game, and while that's kinda the norm, I was hoping that something would unlock. Weapon upgrade trees are gone, and feeling so underpowered and under-equipped compared to the end of ToD was a bummer. I'll still play through it, but I'm glad I didn't get it at full price, and I hope the next one is a full game.

I believe each pack is $4.99 (according to the Playstation blog) due to release on the 16th.

I may wait until there's a bundle deal (or at least until I finish the game).

5 bucks per? Forget that. That's almost as bad as the Disgaea III content. At least some of the LBP stuff is free.

I too picked up QFB on sale. It had been close to a year since I finished ToD and even played through half of it a 2nd time .

Even with that much time between them, I agree that QFB did not quite live up to my expectations. There is very little incentive to play through it more than once. At least in ToD, you had the Gold Bolts to search out.

I did enjoy QFB, and the story was pretty good, but it could have been better.

I'll need to finish it before buying, but I will buy extra missions. No interest in a harder mode though.

Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition

Warning rant ahead:

[rant]
God fucking damn. I sit down to watch a BD (my last disc from my now canceled Netflix account) and the PS3 won't read it. Awesome. Brand new disc, not a blemish in sight. It does have a center 'ring' sticker applied which is likely the cause, but I see that there is a firmware update so I decide to update on the off chance that it is the root of the problem (I know, slim & none). Well on the slim chance that is the cause, I might actually be able to try the disc again in about 2 hours. Fucking gawd damn slow ass PSN. I let it sit for 5 minutes to gauge how long it will take and it's barely reached the 5% mark. Jesus PSN sucks. Now I have to listen to the PS3 fan noise while I watch something else instead. Yea!

Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition

I picked up a movie from Redbox the other day that has those barcode stickers on the center ring and my PS3 growled and groaned when I began playback.
I wound up playing but I brought down a dvd player from upstairs so I wouldn't have to risk ruining anything again

as for the update ... spend less time complaining and do things right
first off today is Thursday when the PSN is updated so the network is going to be slow
the firmware update I believe is almost a week old .... you should download it from your computer off the internet onto a USB device and update the PS3 that way instead of online from the PS3.

I hate the slowness of PSN as well. But at least there is a solution for the fan noise. Turn on your 360 that will drown it out completely.

I don't know about that. My "new" refurb makes it seem like I live next to an airport.

Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition

I was also fairly underwhelmed with R&C:QFB. I'd have been pretty upset if I'd paid full price, and even at $10 it's a bit of a stretch. It's not just the length of the game, since Flower is about the same length, and I l loved it. It's more the fact that it wasn't terribly challenging and didn't progress the story at all. The weapons selection also felt very limited.

I think this weekend might finally be my time to run through Prince of Persia, so I'm excited about that.

Alas, the 360 is on a different TV. I think maybe the PS3 was judging my choice in movies. It was Role Models. Move before that? Death Race. It just couldn't handle it despite the steady diet of Planet Earth. I tried it again once the update was done and no go.

Heh, I am selling my PS3 (eventually.. I'm lazy) due to the fan noise.

It's unbearable.

I did the same with my old 60GB PS3, since fan noise while watching movies sucked. Purchased a new 80GB to replace it, and I don't think I've heard the fans spin up past the lowest setting once. Very happy with the upgrade (minus the loss of 2 USB ports, media reader, backwards compatibility, etc.)

Can't tell if you're joking, but my PS3 (80gig MGS bundle) is whisper-quiet - almost zero fan noise.

Also, while I was one of the bigger complainers about PSN's speed, since the last update, it's been way faster. Seriously. I don't know what they did, but it's now noticeably quicker and things load at a much faster rate than they did before.

No joking. I can't watch quiet movies on the thing. It's a very early 60GB model, for what it's worth.

I won't change to a 80GB or whatever they're at now, I just want a stand-alone.

I'll borrow one if FF Versus XIII doesn't go multi-platform when the time comes.

I have a 60GB model, and it's always been quiet. My 360 makes a LOT more noise.

Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition

I think it depends on how much you use your PS3. My 60gb PS3s ran quiet for awhile but now my second one is running a bit louder. The refurb that I received for my first PS3 (YLOD victim) runs as loud as a jet taking off from the Air base without ever actually taking off. It just sits there and runs loud forcing me to turn the tv up to an unacceptable level just to hear.

Michael, I've run into this problem before when playing blu-rays. Try turning off the ps and then turning it back on with the power button (on the system, not the controller) and hold the button down until you here a few beeps. It does some sort of reset and some questions should pop up on the screen. Just answer yes to get through them and it should read your disc.

I have a 40GB PS3, but that thing is super quiet, especially compared to the 360.

Alright, it's giving me six options:
1. Restart System
2. Restore Default Settings
3. Restore File System
4. Rebuild Database
5. Restore PS3 System
6. System Update

I can eliminate 1, 2 & 6 as my system is current, restart simply does what it says, and I obviously don't want to wipe my PS3 to factory default. That leaves 3, 4 & 5. Which do I want?

None of those sound appealing. 5 would seem to me like it would wipe all of your memory.

Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition

I clicked on all three for further descriptions. #5 does appear to wipe the whole system, so that's out. I gave #3 a shot since it seemed like the least damage worthy choice. Whatever it did, it didn't help. That leaves #4 which doesn't sound too bad.

Mine as well. I can't hear it on Blu-rays or games. The 360 is very loud by comparison and I have a fairly new Falcon board 360. I'm going to consider myself lucky on this one. I dust and use canned air on my consoles every week or two. Maybe that helps but I'll take just lucky as well.
