If only there was some sort of method to privately message someone. Think of the possibilities!

Yeah, last time I gave away a code, it was for the Uncharted beta, I just asked the guys that were more enthusiast in the thread here. I didn't want to post the code and some lurker just get it.
Of course sometimes I don't care and just post a code, but then people is complaining that the code doesn't work. :D

I've probably given away 2 dozen codes/coupons over the years here. That was the first time I outright posted one. I let my guard down. It won't happen again.

After three long years and hundreds of hours of fun with my 360, it's decided to start dying on me :(

Yesterday while playing prince of Persia, the game freezes up on me. I kept it off until now. The game froze twice on me. Thinking it might be just that one game, I stick in Beautiful Katamari, and within the first few minutes, the system freezes ! I'm gonna try playing an arcade game to determine if it's a problem with the disc drive. So far no red ring of death. Is there any chance Microsoft would take back a launch console? I don't think it's under warranty anymore.

Welcome to the club, but I think you may be out of luck with MS. I remember reading earlier this year that all launch console were no longer being covered by MS.

While playing some Arcade games, it froze twice on me. So it looks like i'm goin shoppin. Yay!

What's the most reliable 360 console to get? Is it the one with the Jasper chip? How can you tell if it is the new chip? I'm leaning towards the resident evil 5 elite bundle.

Just got back from Best Buy. They had no RE5 bundles, so i went with the Indiana Jones/Kung Fu Panda elite bundle.

I looked through the packaging, and I cant find the transfer cables. How do i put my games and saves onto the 120 gb hdd? Why wouldn't microsoft put that in the packaging?

because the vast majority of people buying the system don't need it.

Request one from xbox.com. You send in your SN# and they'll mail you one for free.

Hey, does anyone with an Arcade model know how to get their stupid 360 to automatically save games to the HD instead of asking me EVERY FREAKING TIME if I want to save to the 120 GB HD or to the 215 MB internal memory card?

Guess it's too late now  but you can tell on the bar code/serial number sticker on the 360 itself. If it says 12 V, 12.1 Amps then that's the Jasper unit

As far as I know, only the Arcade models have the Jasper chip.

Since you can't remove the internal memory, I think you're SOL. Only the really cool games (like RB2) are pro-active enough to find and use your save automagically.

Internal memory card?

...Maybe most games try to automatically save to wherever your gamertag is located at? If that's the case, can you move your tag over to the HDD?

Re: The Official Xbox 360 thread - thread hardest

Nah, he's simply asking how to get the 360 to default to one location over another. It's just the API of the system, when some piece of software wants to go to the storage and the system says there's more than 1 available, you get the selection screen.

Anyone that has ever had an HDD and a MU attached simultaneously knows this. It's very rare the software is smart enough to search on its own before asking, outside of the initial save creation.

My near-launch 360 finally stopped working. Returned it to Costco, now I'm upgraded to a Pro system and got $150 cash back. Gotta love Costco.

I have an arcade with the external MU & 120GB HDD and it asks me all the time to choose HDD or MU when starting games. If I keep my gamertag on the 360(and remove the MU), will that selection screen stop popping up?

When the screen pops up it does default to the HDD so it's only a matter of hitting 'A' to continue. Not a terrible annoyance.

Actually, now that I think about it, I think it asks even if you only have a HDD. Maybe it isn't a hard-lined rule. I'm sure certain games are smart enough to not ask if there's only 1 device attached.

Then again, certain games also save directly to the profile and the backing-storage for that is already known by the system.

So I think the moral of the story here is that the storage selection screen is something you can't avoid. You certainly can't remove the internal memory, so it's moot anyway.

.

Yea, I had a launch unit for a couple years with only a HD attached and games all the time asked me where to save. I liked it when a game knew better than to ask but it didn't bother me when it did.
