The article said they would still support both the 360 and the new console upgrade. I'm guessing Natal will work with both systems.

They may just PC-ize the system, give it additional RAM/improved Graphics card/faster CPU -- at which point everything will run on both, but may run better on the late model.

That would be shitty as hell.

This definitely would pose an issue for developers, because if they develop to take advantage of the new spec they also would have to make sure everything was compatible with previous model to take advantage of the current install base. These types of disparate versions of consoles or costly accessories, (not sure which this is) generally don't work out well for console game developers who develop games dependent upon it. Console gamers generally don't receive this type of thing well. While PC gamers are used to reviewing hardware requirements, updating drivers, and having a somewhat different experience based on what their rig is capable of, console gamers expect games to work with no additional updates/upgades on their end to get them to do so.

If it is an addon to the current console, that will be somewhat odd--have there been any really successful add-on hardware devices recently, other than GH/RB instruments? Especially since according to the demo video, their goal (I assume) is to truly integrate it into the console experience).
But it would be worse if it's an "upgraded" 360.5, that would fragment the market even more.

I definitely don't want them to PCize consoles--in my opinion that's always been one major factor in favor of consoles, that you know what you're getting, that as time goes by games for the console get 'better' (can get more out of the specs) because they are building for the same technology rather than saying "Just upgrade your PC" every six months; the update/patching process is already as close to the PC experience as I want to get, since it allows developers to ship now, fix later.

Xbox 3 to be released in Nov 2010 and people here think it's too soon?

I'm sure they could squeeze an extra year out of the 360 if they wanted to, but it's not a bad idea at this point to retool the platform again and put out a true 1080p capable system with motion controls.

They can kill a couple of the 360 bundles, perhaps release the Pro only for $199, then along side will be the Xbox 3 for $399 with the beefed up specs and full backward capability. I think it will work.

Considering there's an interview over at IGN with someone from Microsoft stating the plan is for the 360 to be their system until 2015...I don't buy it at all.

There is no way they'd be considering a new console so soon, especially in this current economic climate. The 360 has some good traction, and is finally gaining on the Wii. They'd be dumb not to ride this out, and make more money on games (which they're actually beating the Wii on, in 3rd party games) instead of dumping so much more into a console that won't pay off for years.

Repackaged bundles is what I see coming out of this. Not sure on the price points, but this seems the most reasonable to me.

I don't know the 1up guys were also the ones who broke the pspgo story. They were sure adamant about this rumor being true. I guess we will have to wait till next year to find out.

Do they need a new console?
They have too many games scheduled for the Xbox 360 in 2010 to release a new console. Alan Wake, Gears of War 3, Halo:Reach, Crackdown 2, etc., etc. They should learn from Sony, they kept releasing good games for the PS2 and that affected PS3 sales.

Too early to say it won't work. It clearly isn't the same as the Wii's motion sensing and it's obviously an entirely new kind of camera (3D).

You do realize it is ok to own more than just a 360 right? Many people on this forum enjoy gaming on the 360 and the Wii and own both so some of us Wii Owners are in here too. It is possible to enjoy games on the Wii without being a retard as you put it.
