Actually, it looks like I've read it wrong.. $1B for franchise (disc sales).

40 million paid downloads since March at approx. $2 a piece is $80 million. I'm sure that those aren't all individual songs, and a lot of packs/albums are included in that 40 million. So I guess I don't know how much they've sold in DLC. But it's a lot!

^ That's retail sales. The DLC states 40M "paid" downloads up to 3/24/2009. That's, at most, $80M.

Since we don't know what "paid" means (packs, discounts, $1 songs) we know it's less than that.

Edit: :) Also, we know they only get about half of each song after licensing to the label, artist, and platform.

That makes no sense. It's at least $80M. The only way it would be less is if they had 40 million DL's of the Nickelodeon and Harmonix songs. Packs/albums would increase the amount of money.

You're right. I was thinking of it as songs, not downloads.

Yup, I said that already multiple posts earlier. $1 billion in retail sales is far, far different from ~$100 million in DLC sales. Given their own execs are saying they'll lose $400 million in 2009, it doesn't look like DLC sales are anywhere close to covering their costs at the moment.

Probably doesn't help that assholes like me are too stingy with their already cheap points to spend on everything he wants every week. This is why my "wishlist" is 75 songs long.

I'm stingy as hell with my points too. I got a shitload free from contests (probably ~$150 or so), and I haven't gone apeshit spending them.

I might go in and buy some non-RB DLC that I've been holding off on at some point. Lost and the Damned, and the Fable II DLC, mostly. I'll wait for the GOTY edition of Fallout before picking up any of that stuff.

I always have to spend the points. Since they're not real... I feel like I should use them before an apocalyptic electrical surge wipes out all the servers.

Yeah, me too. That's why I have a lot of gamer pics, themes, etc. that weren't free.

I have to think a good portion of that $400 million is due to getting the licensing rights to The Beatles.

I bought points just for Lost Planet maps a couple years ago, and the same 300 point balance has been sitting in my account since then. I was worried for a while because I swear I heard they expire but so far they haven't.

Shit. My Iron Man game won't load and continue my current game. Does that mean my save is corrupted? Can this be fixed?

Points never expire. The only thing that expires is the codes on promotional points. So if you win points through some contest and they send you a code, it's best to input it right away rather than let it sit in your inbox. I believe the codes expire after 90 days or so.

Some promotional points expire even after you enter them, but if you buy something, they use them first. (At least that's what's in the fine print of some of the older contests, they may not ever have actually acted upon that.)

Also, how do you win 150$ in points? I think I've won three songs worth from the first Stride contest, one from the second, and 400 points from the "Renew your Gold" promotion.

lordwow 05-24-09 08:19 AM

Re: The Official Xbox 360 thread - thread hardest

There was that design-a-car promotion. I must have walked away with about 2000 points from that.

There are numerous promotions during the year that are totally exploitable. I didn't get much from the Create-a-Car thing (maybe 800 or so). I hit it big with the Sons of Anarchy one (about 6000) or so, and recently during a Coke promotion hit about 12,000 or so.

If you know where to look, you should never pay full-price for points (or even pay for them at all). This is one reason why the 360 is more awesome than the PS3 (I know this wasn't even brought up). But I've never seen a free points promotion on Sony's side that amounted to anything. The only one I've heard of were the Rock Band ones (which was cross-platform).

This is a duplicate post of the one I put in the XBLA thread. Thought it might be useful to those who avoid the XBLA as well. Sorry for the redundancy.

From CAG:

Xbox LIVE Deal of the Week

Current deal:

May 17 - May 23

30% Off Marvel Ultimate Alliance Hero/Villain Pack 560/800

(following pulled from OXM July 09/#98,pg. 31)

June 8 - June 14

30% Discount Gears of War 2 Combustible Map Pack 560/800

June 15 - June 21

30% Discount Fallout 3 Operation: Anchorage 560/800

June 22 - June 28

33% Discount Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix 800/1200 (?)

Great deal on SSF II if you didn't already buy it. Also nice to see a discount on that Fallout 3 content. Avoid the Gears 2 DLC as the $20 compilation is coming in July

The saves on 360 are usually locked to your profile. Could you have started the game under a different user account on your 360? Only thing I can think of.
