Inspired by the wtf movie moments...

The ending of mario 3 "We're sorry but the princess is in another castle. Just kidding"

Resident Evil 1. The scene where the Zombie dog bursts through the window

Final Fantasy 7 the first mission when you blow up the first reactor

The Resident Evil remake deserves mention as well. I remember a burning Zombie kicking down a door and running after me.

Definitely Bioshock.

One that stands out to me for some reason is Grandia II. I'm used to changing out characters in RPGs, but I was not expecting

Mine would be The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time:

Just when you thought you had finally beaten the game, Ganon comes back in another form and you have to race down the tower staircase as it is collapsing and then beat him one more time


Super Mario 3:

Spoiler:
When you're crossing the lava in World 8 and the hand comes up and grabs you, forcing you to play the level. I think only twice was I able to get through that part and not have a hand grab me.

Knights of the Old Republic:

For the first half of the game, everyone thinks that the big bad Sith Lord Darth Revan is dead. Then it is revealed that YOU are actually Darth Revan.


No One Lives Forever (can't remember if it was the original or the sequel) but both games were full of WTF moments. The biggest WTF moment was the rail shooter level where a stereotypical kilt-wearing Scotsman is driving a tricycle while you are on the back of it shooting at French mimes.

That was part two. In the first one, the Scotsman is your enemy. Both great games, though.

The ending of Braid is a recent example for me.

Not really a WTH, but more of a "I can't believe they got away with this..."
Conkers Bad Fur Day... (Brass balls, drunk pissin, cow poop...) God... I gotta play this again...
Still the only game that actually made me laugh out loud and make friends come over to see it.

The trap in Lemmings that wrapped a rope around the lemming's neck, whipped the lemming up and down by the rope, and slammed the lemming into the ground.

I can't call any of these my "favorites" but they stick out in my mind as very effective and memorable.

Bioshock is mentioned many times here but I have to talk about my specific WTH?! moments.

Spoiler:
1. The Doctor mutilating the patient...the whole scene with the darkness and his mad ravings was just crazy.

2. All though the game approaching dead bodies was fairly safe; but then a certain point, later in the game, the game decides not all "dead bodies" are dead. I can't remember the area, but the first one "playing possum" is a woman who plays dead until you get right up to her then she quickly raises her head, screams, and attacks. Holy FUCK!!!

3. In the medical area when you pick up an item on the desk and as you turn there's a Doctor just standing there. He just stares then attacks.


Condemned

Spoiler:
The Mannequins in the department store when they all surround you. No matter what you do, there they are and they're starting at you. That ain't right!!!! I was genuinely scared at that part.

Once I figured out I should shoot them before they even move I was cool. But that one part was really freaky.

When you find that the people in Andale are cannibals. First I thought oh what a beautiful place, with a couple of traditional American families. Then WTF??? and after that I was really enraged, like if it was in real life. I killed them several times. I emptied my weapons several times on them. And I've never came back to that town. I know that grandpa said that he was going to take care of the kids and try to be good, but I don't really believe that...
Maybe when the DLC is released I'll be back to check how they are doing.

Unlike other entries in the series, Resident Evil 4 is low on scares. But it does have one -- and its a doozy.

A favorite of mine is in Lego Star Wars. The Disco Room on Geonosis. If you've been there, you know what I mean.

I'm surprised no one's mentioned the final boss in Smash Bros.
