Remember, the current PS3s in stores do not play PS2 games at all. So if you want to play PS2 games...you gotta buy a PS2. That's the only reason I can see PS2 still selling as much as it does.

So, sell a PS3 for $299 that plays PS3 games using software, like the Xbox. It's that easy.

Totally 100% agree with you on this. I would love to pick up Rachet and Clank and Uncharted for 30 bucks a piece but SCEA's insistance to leave the price at 59.99 sucks.

You mean plays PS2 games with software, right? They did that, 80GB PS3. It was very choppy (like ther 360's PS3). IIRC, Sony removed the PS2 BC because they wanted to make gamers focus on new games and not older ones. If they want to play older games, go buy a PS2.

Selling 2million units in a month at any time is fucking insane. But add on top of that the current economy, yet Nintendo is doing better than ever? It's amazing.

I wonder what the next xbox and playstation will do to try and gain some of the attention nintendo is getting now, next gen.

You know they'll change that with some future firmware update.

Yeah, I wouldn't bet on them staying the course. Not without some attempt at gaining some of that casual/popular cache the Wii has.

Came out Nov 16th, sold a bit under 290k copies in the US by the end of November so it didn't make the top list.

That's ridiculous. Now, if you don't mind I'm off to equip my NXE Avatar with a ski jacket and go bowling in PS3 Home.

I don't think those casual gamers are going to be ready to buy another new system by the time the next generation gets going.

If you combine the software attach rate for the 360 though makes it a little more impressive, and everyone I know has dust on there wii.

Dust on the Wii seems to be the new talking point.

Xbox 360 owners already have imitation Miis greeting them when they boot up their systems. Also there are those persistent rumors that both MS and Sony have their imitation Wiimotes in development.

Yeah I guess the constant Wii software sales are people buying Wii games just to put them next to their dusty systems!

Shooting themselves in the foot!! I have no real interest in the PS3 for it's current games, but I would have pulled the trigger on it if it still had backwards compatibility when I finally decided it was time for Blu-Ray. Instead, I have a nice stand alone player and a PS2 and paid less to boot!

If the really want sales to take off, discontinue the PS2, add some sort of BC and drop the price.

As far as the numbers...OH NOH!!! Numb3rz don't mattr cuz tha Wii don't be hardc0re!!!!

I think Wii would have sold 2 million last year if they had that many available but that probably goes without saying.

But I have to admit....my Wii has dust on it. I actually had a PS3 before my current 360 so I buy all cross-platform games for the PS3, and that tends to be the system I play the most.

If they were to put out a high-def Wii I'd probably use it more for certain types of games.

Fail. I have about 5 unplayed games(off the top of my head, Metroid, RE4, Nights, Mercury Meltdown) sitting next to my Wii that is gathering dust.

Maybe these numbers will get Sony to drop the price soon. I'd buy the 80gb PS3 for $299 to replace my HTPC as a Blu-ray player. I might even buy a game or two.

Is there an actual reason you still have the Wii, other than to complain about it?

I got rid of my 360 since mine was gathering dust (and breaking down whenever I did actually play it), why not do the same?

Nah, I think it's just because it's cheap, while still getting some software support.

Think about it. You're suggesting that all those people who bought the recent PS3s still want to play PS2 games, and they're going out and buying new PS2s. I would think that if they actually wanted to play PS2 games, they'd hold onto their PS2s.

I could care less how much the Wii is selling, I'd never buy one. If I need a game where I want to be active, I'll play Rock Band.

XBox Live was the big selling point for me. The Wii and PS3 can't touch that quality gaming experience (although I do have a PS3, but only for movies...I have only one game).
