I don't really understand your logic here. GH and RB or far bigger with the casual fan base (GH sales are best on the Wii), I bet most of them don't like the harder songs, and the Metallica game will be full of hard songs. I'd say the Beatles game has a far greater chance of crossover with the RB/GH crowd than Metallica considering the casual nature of it. The Beatles are still really really popular, and with all age groups. I don't think Metallica attracts as wide an age demographic as the Beatles either. So, it also has to opportunity to bring a lot of first-timers to the music-game genre, which I don't think GH: Metallica will do as much of.

Don't mistake it Drop, many Beatles song are very difficult musically, and the pitch of the vocals might not be all that easy either.

To explain my logic, I don't see many older, casual gamer Wii owners plunking down $99 (or whatever) to get a plastic guitar to play Beatles songs. I still strongly feel that the core music game market is the 13-25 set... none of whom were alive when Lennon was. I just don't think many of them know or care who the Beatles were.

Just to get my biases out of the way, I think the Beatles were a very good band, but they don't do a whole lot for me. "Please Please Me" is my favorite album of theirs.

I think the Beatles will do well, but I can't imagine it would be better then the sales of the main GH or RB games. It should easily do better then Aerosmith or Metallica though.

As far as the drum set discussion goes, sensitivity and quality issues aside, I can't imagine why anyone would prefer the 4 pad set versus the raised symbol set up of the World Tour drums. The pedal preference I can see, but I like being able to move it to wherever is comfortable.

Randomly playing drum heads? Sounds like someone should work on keeping time and practicing fills.

Or get the drums replaced free of charge. ;)

I'd rather have a snare and 3 toms than a snare and 2 toms. Don't know many people that learn to play drums on a 4pc kit. Not saying you can't, but 5pc kits are typically standard.

Two cymbals doesn't make sense either. No Ride?

While super engaging - this is neither to do RB nor with GH, but more a combination of the two so let's continue the kit talk in the generic music thread. Thanks.

Star power activation in RB is in time with the song. Most people that I see playing drums have no idea what a proper fill is and just randomly wail away on the pads until the required number of notes get the green activation signal. If people just kept time with the song instead of heavily relying on watching notes, then they can work on doing drum fills which IMHO gives one more of an actual drumming experience.

My $.02

I still prefer GH guitars and am curious about the new GH drums, but GH software is utterly and completely dead to me. I have no intention of ever buying GH:WT, and the only reason I still own GH3 is the fact that I have MUSE DLC for it.

Exactly. They also care greatly about their customer base and making it the most enjoyable experience for them. Which is awesome.

I have no issues with the creators of RB. I really like the games, I have both and play them frequently. I just personally like GHWT better.

While a lot of really young people may not give a fuck about The Beatles, just about everyone I know likes them - same goes for my sisters friends...which is an age spread between 18-29... I can't name a single person outside of myself who gives a shit about Aerosmith or Metallica, so I'm pretty sure a Beatles game is going to appeal to a pretty wide audience... I remember when I was in high school and a lot of people started to discover The Beatles at that age... I'm sure that's still happening in High Schools today...

I discovered they were better left on the radio than in my cassette tape/record/cd collection. :p

For people who already own GH/RB games, I can almost guarantee that Metallica is going to be a bigger draw than the Beatles. Look at the song selections in the game for goodness sakes.

For people who don't currently own one of those games the Beatles should be a much bigger draw... but I don't see those people getting over the initial cost outlay to purchase a new game+guitar.

Now, I'm not figuring in people like my neighbors who have an 12 and 15 year-old. The parents play some, but the kids do most of the playing. It wouldn't surprise me if the parents buy the Beatles game for their kids to expose them to "good music". My gut assumption is that will be a much smaller demographic than the installed base.

Regardless of how people individually feel about the Beatles, the suggestion that Metallica is more popular is absurd.

The question is who is more popular among RB's target audience. That is a far narrower margin.

I'm pretty sure Lars said they were bigger than Jesus.

I bet if you asked the typical RB/GH player to name 10 Metallica songs they couldn't do it. Ask them to name 10 Beatles songs, they probably could -- and then some.
