The Mac gaming thread

I'm sure this thread is going to get LOTS of traffic, but I had a question, so I started it. So there!

I have a MacBook Pro and for whatever reason I really don't want to install Windows on it. 99% of my gaming is on my PS3, but I'd like to find some good games I could put on my MBP for when I'm away from home and want play something. I saw that KOTOR is available for the Mac. I have the PC version, is there a way to transfer that over to a Mac with a new binary or something? I have WoW, and know that has a Mac install, but I haven't played it in ages and don't plan on getting back into it.

I have been considering episodes 1 and 2 of Penny Arcade Adventures.

What else? Into action, rpgs, adventure, strategy...

Starcraft should still work on the mac, Spore is decent, uhh... that's about it. Oh yeah, the Penny Arcade games are great. Going through Episode 2 now! I just bootcamp on my Macbook Pro and run a 20gb WinXP partition. I've been playing Fallout 3 on it, and Vampire: The Masquarade. It runs great.

I strongly recommend bootcamping if you can!

I should... wonder where I can get a cheap copy of XP. Probably won't work with the OEM version I bought for the PC I built a few years ago.

I play WoW on an iMac, but I don't think that's what you're looking for.

Call of Duty 4?

I'm wondering how Fallout 3 would perform on my 3 ghz iMac with the 512mb 8800GS video card (in Bootcamp).

I thought that quite a lot of PC releases have been getting mac releases. There's a new software layer that companies are using to port stuff over to Macs very easily, can't remember the name. But with the new Intel macs there's a lot less to deal with than before.

Anyway, to be honest, I can't remember any specific games but I thought a lot of EAs games were getting this treatment. Maybe try checking the mac section at an online store.

Should run great, I think my MacBook Pro only has 256mb of Video RAM. Also depends on how much RAM you have total.

I don't see why you couldn't use your OEM copy.

4 gigs of RAM. I'm thinking I should be able to run it with the settings pretty high. $10 cheaper than the 360 version and it's supposed to look better too.

Have you seen this? You can play some PC games without Windows. They have a list of what games works with this.
