C'mon, you know the answer to that Creature. You know that the $10 game is a value-add to the $40 controller. Might as well since everyone needs a 2nd controller anyway.

If Wii Play was a stand-alone $20 or $30 "budget" title, would it have pushed as much?

For my wife and myself, the appeal of the Wii is that when we get together with friends, the party games are much more entertaining than they ever were with conventional controllers. My brother has never gotten into video games, but he does get into coming over and showing me up on Wii Sports or Pong Toss. For the Wii, we've bought things like Mario Party 8 (astonishingly not in widescreen!), Mario Kart Wii and the LEGO games.

Basically, we get into the kinds of things that we can pick up and play easily without having a strategy guide on hand, and can walk away from when the rest of our lives interrupt us. Having said all that, we are still sort of waiting for a game that really sucks us in.

So your average console gamer buys 9.6 games a year. Not hard to keep them happy. Thus, that's why only gamer forum folks insist there's no good games to play, whereas the normal gaming public is still snapping up Wiis in record numbers. There's plenty of games to keep them busy.
I'm curious to see what the avg number of games per console is across all consoles. I know folks who own a wii with the wii sports it came with and maybe wii fit or something else (admittedly some of these people are folks who would never ordinarily buy a console and probably never will again in their lives).

On the other hand, you have someone like me (not hardcore - although I've been staying up awful late on Fallout 3 these last couple of weeks), who currently owns a stack of about 10 360 games that they want to hold on to for future playing, is in the middle of 2 or 3 different games right now (crazy release schedules), and has traded a handful of others back in for credit on future releases. How well - if at all - are used game sales tracked?

And while certainly there may be better versions on the PS3 or 360, most of the games listed above were multi-platform too.

Of course, that just brings back the argument that the "hardcore" gamer isn't going to care because they'll be buying most of these on the 360/PS3 because of the better graphics or versions, and I don't see Mom and Pop buying the new Call of Duty. And maybe it's just me, but i've also stopped seeing a lot of talk about how "it's all about the gameplay" in regards to the Wii controls over the traditional controllers. I remember that comment being used quite often a year back.

If developers could seriously get the controls perfected for first person shooters, the Wii might get more respect from a certain segment of gamers. The few times they've gotten it right, like Metroid 3 and especially Medal of Honor Heroes 2, using a 360 or PS3 controller just feels primitive in comparison. It's just that most examples like COD 3, Red Steel and others are just a mess. All they'd have to do is blatantly copy the controls from MOH:H2 (hoping they do this for World at War) and there would be a real reason to buy the Wii version over the PS/360 one.

Maybe The Conduit will truly perfect motion controls for this genre, but I'm expecting World at War to be the usual headache-inducing crap. Hopefully they've learned something by now though.
