I don't have composite, I have component (and HDMI).
I got 720p and 1080i to show perfectly (hadn't tried before as all I use is 1080p with the PS3). 1080p is still screwy. |

Have you tried each of your HDMI inputs on the TV? Are you going straight from the PS3 to the TV? Do you have an HDMI enabled Xbox 360? If so, see if your getting 1080p from that.
I had the PS3 outputting 1080p no problem also. I disconnected the HDMI form the PS3 (but not from the TV), connected the PS3 through composite to another TV (changed the PS3's settings to the other cable, and my main TV's settings were never changed because the composite went to another TV, not this one), then unhooked that cable and reconnected the HDMI cable going to the TV back to the PS3 and redid the video setup and selected HDMI, and everything but 1080p works. Not looking forward to Sony's customer support... we probably know more in this thread than they do. The PS3 is going directly to the TV. |

Since you're already trying everything else, try unplugging everything (power cords and all), leave it be for a few minutes and then plug everything back in. Just looking around the net, it seems some other people have had issues with 1080p through hdmi and this has been their fix for the issue.
Also check your TV settings as steebo777 said. If the wrong refresh rate or anything is selected, it could result in an issue (I think the ps3 can only do 1080p at 60Hz or something like that). |
her TV is too old to be 120hz capable.

It's only a year old :p They had 120hz TVs when I was shopping for one but they added a grand to the price. Mine is not 120hz.

^^^ Gotcha. I still wonder though if it could be a setting on the TV. And if resetting the TV to default could help. Those few seconds are a lot quicker then minutes/hours/days on the phone with customer service.

mod abuse....

Is there not a way to set the PS3 back to factory defaults?

However, I don't remember if it reset my PSN name/password information or not. |
I'm surprised no one posted this yet, but the open Home beta is being released in about an hour or so. Now everyone can try it out.

I was hoping it would have been there before I left for work. I tried at 6am and not there. I wanted to download it and install it before I left for work.
|
Yeah I'll d/l it tonight or tomorrow but don't care about it too much.
|
Apparently they are having some technical issues with launching HOME, at least in Europe.

There won't be a "download" and "install" of HOME. When you turn on your PS3, it will just be there in your XMB.
|
For those of us in the closed Beta of Home, there are some free exclusive items in the Mall today only. I tried and tried to get on this morning before work, but it kept getting stuck in the "Initializing" phase and I never got it to work.
|
damn, I turn on my PS3 and go to Home. I get greeted with "there is an update..." so I install it and now I can't connect to the PSN Network.

I've been out of town since before they started offering the stuff at the stores in the mall and haven't picked up any of the free stuff yet. I wish we could make PSN purchases om the computer, or that my gf wasn't at work right now and could pick up the free things for me before the beta opens up. |
