I'm guessing they went with the Live Donington tracks for AC/DC because it is the closest thing they have to a "Greatest Hits" compilation. I still would have much preferred they put together their own "hits" package. It was probably the band's (and their management/label's choice anyway.

I'd prefer live versions than not. For one, there's more guitar solos. Extended guitar solos.

It only makes sense: the entire premise of "Rock Band" (and Guitar Hero) is that you are playing live, in a club. When I see a band play a club and it sounds like the album, I'm disappointed.

I've downloaded the previous Crue songs, but Dr Feelgood, while it's good, is my least favorite Crue album. Still, it would be fun.

That's a good point about live albums--I think I read that two of the ACDC tracks are over ten minutes long thanks to solos and jamming. I think one of my peeves of live albums is when they're not mixed well, where you can barely hear the drums or guitar over the loud crowd screaming, and of course the vocalist's condition makes a difference as well.

They had a choice in that they could have gone the 3 pack route. There is always a choice.

And unfortunately they don't understand that "Leeds" is a rare, rare exception to the Live rule. I am really curious to see how Donington comes out even though it is also considered on the upper end of live recordings.

Somebody on the RB forums noticed that the daily Rock Central blurb mentioned today is Gwen Stefani's 39th birthday. I could go for a No Doubt pack announcement today.

Hoping the surprise Crue news is true because of a few of the tracks and the possibility for other surprise albums by EOY

I have this CD and even LIVE is sounds fantastic.... It really adds to the music. I think the point of the game is for you to feel what a band might feel like playing live. I think we are gonna be surprised by this.

I'd rather the choice be mine. If I want a The Who 3-pack, I can buy that. But if I want 12 songs, I can get that. Or anything in between. I think to devilshalo's point, they had advertised Who's Next, so since the masters weren't all available, the next best thing was a 12 pack essentially chosen by two members of the band. So from their perspective, they promised the album, so the "didn't have a choice" but to deliver something album-sized.

Greatest hits, or Best ofs, are great in theory, but I just don't think those are as easy to come by as one would believe for a ton of reasons.

As far as live tracks, as someone who doesn't generally like the idea, they obviously do understand that Leeds is a special case, or those wouldn't be the only 3 live tracks we have so far.

They look to be taking great care to make sure that the AC/DC tracks are quality as well, especially since it was probably the only AC/DC option available to them. While it is kind of up in the air as to whether these will be Donington tracks only, or a collection of their best live performances, they have a pretty major engineer, Mike Frasor, remixing the tracks specifically for the game. It's obvious that they want to get the best quality possible from live tracks.

I much prefer the AC/DC Live album to any of their studio recordings, so I'll love this.

Apparently the Offspring 3-pack ad is back up on the dashboard now. If so, that's probably "all" we're getting. Would still like to see No Doubt thrown in for good measure, but 4 albums in a row (5 if MC is true!) is probably way overkill.

I'd be happy with just 3 from the Offspring.

For god's sake. I had hopes that I'd only be buying 3 this week until this bullshit. This is getting to be punishing, MSP-wise.

All Right Now may end up my most played song, at least for a while.

Nice - early announcement! I'm not really an Offspring fan, but I'll probably get the three pack and the Screaming Trees track. Not sure about Bad to the Bone - I'm sure it'll be fun to play, but I was looking forward to it being free.

Yeah the rumored list is pretty much dead now. I just hope it's not filled with a bunch of no-name indy bands.
