My understanding is that all RB1/RB2/GH4:WT instruments work with each other, on both the PS3* and the 360. It gets trickier if you're talking about GH2 and GH3 though.

In those, the Rock Band guitar will not work, but GH's guitars always work in Rock Band.

* Sony has said they are working on the compatibility of the instruments, so it is "coming soon"; the 360's instruments are compatible out of the box.

At this point I may just get the guitar bundle, play through the game, and dump it. Unless there is a bunch of great DLC in the near future after release...because there are only a handful of songs I'm really interested in on disc. :(

I'd like to hear more about the guitar and if it works flawlessly with RB2 (don't know why it wouldn't).

The Bus 10-15-08 09:23 AM

Can you play GHIII DLC on it?

I ask only because I want to play the Coldplay song(s).

Wait, that wouldn't make any sense. :(

Metallica - Death Magnetic is the only cross platform DLC in the GH series.

Are the drums going to be sold seperately at launch?

Also, is there any particular reason that the 360 full band version isn't available for preorder on any website that I've been to?

Kelkee 10-15-08 01:06 PM

Nothing confirmed on seperate guitars or drums yet. They are not even listed on the RedOctane site.

I see the 360 Band Kit on Amazon, and they also have it at the RedOctane store.

Update: The Amazon kit is used not preorder. With 11 days left youd be hard pressed to find anyone taking preorders any more.

Sold out. Gamestop isn't taking any more pre-orders either. I believe they have a set number so if you are truly interested, as much as it pains me to say it, head on over there asap. Or find a Blockbuster that sells games, otherwise Target, Wal-Mart, etc. on release day will be the way to go.

argh923 10-15-08 01:32 PM

That's cool...I'll just hit Walmart on the midnight release. Don't expect to have any problems picking it up.

discostu1337 10-15-08 10:23 PM

Well, we encountered Jimi Hendrix in tour mode tonight and got an achievement playing as him. His first song was lame, but Purple Haze was fun. We also came across Zakk Wylde, whoever the hell that is...the song sucked. We could not unlock him to play as, nor get any achievements for him.

It looks like we only have 1 set left to beat the game (played 3 nights for about an hour each), and so far its super easy on hard. I think we hit a low of 96% on a song once, but that's about it. Perhaps we should have just done expert to start, but usually GH is retarded hard.

LOL! Good one! Ouch!

discostu1337 10-15-08 11:18 PM

I'm serious...we did not know who he was....still kinda don't. Some dude I used to play xbox with had that gamertag, thats about it. I'm assuming he is some sort of heavy metal dude?

REL77 10-16-08 07:02 AM

Zakk Wylde is best known for his roles as a guitarist for Ozzy Osbourne and founder of Black Label Society. He was lead guitarist and vocalist in Pride & Glory, who released one self-titled album in 1994 before disbanding. As a solo artist he released Book of Shadows in 1996.

Community Countdown Day 16: GHTunes

Community Countdown Day 16: GHTunes - Guitar Hero World Tour is about to raise the bar! Not only will you be able to compose original music for the first time using 4 different instruments, but with GHTunes(SM) you'll be able to publish your tracks online, customize album art for online, and climb the charts in the GH Community!

pinata242 10-16-08 08:46 AM

What "4 different instruments"? I thought vocals were out...

shumway 10-16-08 08:57 AM

Maybe they're trying to count lead/rhythm and guitar/bass as separate entities? That would then be 5 but what do I know?

Shagrath 10-16-08 08:58 AM

Guitar, Bass, Drums, Rhythm Guitar.

I know how much you hate this series since Harmonix moved on, but, will you give World Tour a chance or are you dead set against trying it?

The GameStop I frequent is having a parking-lot tourney on the day it comes out, providing free food from Chipotle. I'll be going down there to check it out, to see if things have improved and see how the other instruments play. I'm also in the market for a new guitar, as my Les Paul has been dropping blues as of late.

I will definitely give it a chance, but I really don't have much faith in them. I think fixing the timing thing with Aerosmith was a huge step for Neversoft. However, I also think that not fully committing to DLC and having 3-5 disc/cartridge-based titles a year is a little over-the-top.

I know that Rock Band touts themselves as a "platform", but yet we still have disc-based stuff coming, as well as a couple songs that didn't port. However, having the ability to play the majority of the game's songs without the need for disc-swapping is a godsend!

Michael Corvin 10-16-08 09:21 AM

Don't lie, you're just going for the free food.

I've been able to use my GH3 guitar on RB1 on the PS3, so I would think that means it should work in RB2 as well, no?

That's definitely the reason I'm heading out there! :)

But I am entered into the tourney, and will give it a fair shake. I did play GH:A (mainly for the achievements), and while I felt that it had a better timing window than GH3, it still felt like an amateur project. I really really hate the interface and art style that Neversoft embraces.

The same art style and interface that Harmonix pioneered. -ohbfrank-
