Re: You Don't Know Jack YDKJ to Return?

I love the Wrong Answer of the Game thing. It's there for everyone. The only catch is looking like a dumb ass at first. I'm actually getting decent at "stumbling" on them by remembering the clue and not answering correctly immediately. Yeah, you sacrifice a few seconds on all the other questions, but the pay-off more than makes up for it.

I guess the key there is to not buy it from Amazon then. It's $29.99 everywhere else I've seen as standard price.

I LOVE looking for the wrong question on purpose. How is it coincidence? Isn't it possible they're just looking for it. They're usually pretty easy to find if you keep the product in mind.

Online just is never going to work when playing with random people. Too many people out there think leaderboards matter and so they'll just play one episode over and over again, schooling n00bs with their amazing knowledge of a round they've played 120 times.

Host and they can't pick it.

Re: You Don't Know Jack YDKJ to Return?

So I went for the -$1,000,000 Jack Attack achievement last night. Here's how I did it, if you're interested.

First, move your save game to a USB stick and then unplug it from the system so the game can't find it and is forced to create a new one. (Alternatively, you can just change the storage device under options, but then you might confuse yourself later).

Once you have a fresh save that you can screw up with a huge loss, just play through a game until the J.A. Here you'll obviously be pounding the A button while wrong answers are up. I found I could get 3 or 4 pushes in safely for each wrong answer. Once you see the right answer, obviously don't do anything until it disappears. After it's gone, you can just pound away on A because it won't come back for the current item. This is where you get most of your wrong answers since you can hit it with reckless abandon.

If you just pound A the whole time and let yourself get the right answers, you'll find that you don't have enough time to hit the full million. Doing it that way, I couldn't get more than $750,000. Doing it more attentively, I ended up with almost -$1.4M.

Once you're done, exit the game and delete the save file you just played from and restore your original and you'll be free from that blemish on your average and rating.

Re: You Don't Know Jack YDKJ to Return?

Has anyone bought the first DLC yet? I'm torn because it'll take a while just to get through the 73 on the disc and it may go on sale before I'm done.

But I also want to support the game and I'm afraid that the online component may dry up before I get to it and, when I do, that no one still playing will have the DLC anyway.

Re: You Don't Know Jack YDKJ to Return?

The game has been out for less than 3 days, I wouldn't worry about it too much.

The excellent reviews + load of content + low price tag should help the game out, though there are a lot of gamers out there that seem to want it to fail -- "A trivia game getting the same score as (my precious) Killzone 3? LOL FAIL! 1 / 10!" ugh.

pinata242 02-10-11 09:13 AM

Re: You Don't Know Jack YDKJ to Return?

Yeah, and I already noticed a significant decrease in the number of online players. Games still filled up, but it took a lot longer than Tuesday night.

I was going to when I first say it posted, but like you I saw no need to grab it just yet when there's still so much content on the disc. Releasing it right at launch was a mistake if you ask me. They should have announced a release schedule for the DLC and let people know that new packs were coming at regular intervals. That would keep people interested over time.

chuckd21 02-10-11 09:28 AM

Re: You Don't Know Jack YDKJ to Return?

And I absolutely wouldn't mind the previous games being released as DLC either.

I will buy the DLC once I exhaust the on-disc content. I want to support the developers, but buying the DLC before you play all of the included episodes seems unnecessary.

Well, naturally. However, I've resolved to make more time for the little people, such as you, chuckd, and L&O. I think it'll be good for me.

This is pretty much exactly how I was going to do it. I don't want to lose millions of $$ in my real game. Glad to hear it works.

Re: You Don't Know Jack YDKJ to Return?

I'm still a little confused by the ranking system in the game, not that it's very important other than achievement-wise.

I ranked up to Unicorn last night, with a full bar. After my next online game, which I won against 3 other people, the bar had decreased a little and I was second-highest rank.

I'm thinking it might have to do with correct vs. incorrect responses or something.

Next time you rank up to that, send me an invite so I can beat you for that achievement. I'll return the favor.

If you pick it up and play two 15 minute episodes aren't you already well ahead of most of the games you purchase?

Seriously though...it's ridiculously worth the $30 price tag if you at all like trivia games and smartass comments.

I'm glad the game turned out to be great. My copy from Amazon just showed up today (a day ahead of schedule). I'd love to jump in and play tonight, but Thursdays belong to the NBC comedies and I don't have a DVR anymore. I'll play with a fury this weekend.

Even if they don't do well in sales, i don't think it cost that much to make a jack game. If enough of the old fans buy the game hopefully we get a few sequels and themed games.

Re: You Don't Know Jack YDKJ to Return?

If they could build some kind of shell (ala Burnout Paradise) and then just release big packs of DLC, this thing could last a very long time.

Re: You Don't Know Jack YDKJ to Return?

They need to have a mode where it gets rid of the "wrong question of the game" and then randomizes 10 questions. In it's current state, this game is only a 10 hour game with 0 replay. If it mixed all the questions up, there would be less of a chance of memorizing everything and being able to replay the game even after finishing every episode.

Many of the episodes are scripted and later questions and commentary make call-backs to earlier stuff. They're themed.

I'm sure they could do that with many of the questions, but no matter what you'll still memorize them anyway.

They need a way to mute people in-game.

This. You can easily pull up their gamercard in the lobby and mute them that way. Once the game starts, you need to hit the Guide Button, go to recent players, and then mute them from there. Not exactly an easy process with only small breaks between questions.

Re: You Don't Know Jack YDKJ to Return?

Question intro variations I've seen:

2wo
Spoiler:
The yodeling 2 loses his footing on the W and plummets to his doom.

6ix
Spoiler:
After break dancing and joining the "ix", 6 leans in and professes his love for the player.

10n
Spoiler:
0 pops out a demon baby with green scales and horns instead of the regular n.

Jack Attack
Spoiler:
During the second lightning flash, Jack has an arrow through his head instead of the normal spike (this is after the fork).

Have you seen any others?

Kane & Lynch 2 was a 4 hour game with 0 replay and it was twice the retail price. ;)

Isn't it about 15 minutes per episode? Wouldn't going through all 73 episodes straight still be over 18 hours of gameplay?
