The band is Lush. I'm sure it's not everyone's cup of tea, but they are one of the top female-fronted shoegaze bands.

I follow music pretty closely, I have never even heard of them. Instead of appealing to a small, select group of users, Harmonix needs to appeal the masses especially when it is concering female vocals. If they are going to try and capture the female market and entice them to participate, they should probably make an effort to pick more popular songs.

cartman 09-15-08 03:06 PM

The "battle of the bands" thing, that's just a rivalry type thing for people on your friends list? I did the "Late Night Rock Band Bash" one against Girls on Trampolines (and crushed them, so keep bouncing, its what you do best :) ) and just got some cash. No fans are awarded or anything? :(

Chrisedge 09-15-08 03:13 PM

As far as creating characters goes, I actually created all of our friends (about 9 of them) yesterday, before they came over so when we play, we are actually playing as ourselves...They were laughing at my "impression" of each of them...

When they do that and pick Paramore or the Donnas, though, they get the other side bitching that the songs are too mainstream.

Cash, and placement on leaderboards.

Ghym 09-15-08 03:20 PM

I played a bunch at my friend's house yesterday. We made it up to getting a plane, in World Tour. Gonna go over there again tonight to play some 4 player. After that I'll probably mostly be playing solo, since they don't play as much as I do. I did re-created most of my characters from the first game, and created a couple of bands. I think I've unlocked about half the new songs so far. I've been playing all guitar so far. I think tonight I'm going to check out the drums. I do like the challenges. I only played a couple of them with my friend, but I definately want to try out more.

 I don't think this song was intended for mass female appeal. It was just an attempt to branch out into another unrepresented genre. If they'd picked someone like My Bloody Valentine, there might be male vocals, but they'd be similar complaints about the vocals.

I think there is a lot less whining when they go mainstream and at least it something girls recognize. I have no problem with the Donnas, Harmonix just picked an awful song for RB2.

They have only scratched the surface of Heart, Pat Benatar, No Doubt (though it is coming), Joan Jett, Blondie, The Pretenders, etc...

They haven't even touched Jefferson Airplane, Vixen, Evanescence, Lita Ford, Patti Smith, Berlin, etc...

It just isn't that hard.

It was though. Harmonix has gone on record that they are trying earnestly to get girl vocal songs....and that is the final product.

I guess I just saw it as a foray into a different genre and like I said, they could have picked a band with male vocals, but they didn't. (But while I'm on the topic, I would like to see someone like MBV, Ride or Chapterhouse in the game, or moving a bit away from them, Spacemen 3.)

Supermallet 09-15-08 03:44 PM

I've been unhappy with Rock Band's name approval system since they rejected the best band name ever, Anal Scraper. :(

Meanwhile, Screaming for Vengeance just showed up in my roadie challenge. First time I've failed a song since I bought RB2.

Me too...but I didn't realize it was dude until I saw them live a while back... I was like "I hope the lead singer is hot" My friend stared at me. They came out, then a dude stepped up to the mic, not the girl in the band...I was surprised.

Don't worry - I won't have Cuthbert or Alain on backup vocals. I would however like that little minx, the succubus, come in and dance around the stage...

Dammit - maybe I need a different band name for these guys. I like what I have now, but Ka-Tet or Charyou tree would be better.

We do need to get a three-band show...Mud Flaps, Meat Kurtains, & Reverse Cowgirl.

Yea I just found that. I had to play the drums and guitar by myself. I made it on easy. Not so sure I like the song.

Ten colorful notes unlock all Rock Band 2 tracks

Posted Sep 15th 2008 4:30PM by Dustin Burg

After making your Rock Band 2 purchase, you may be wondering exactly how you can experience the entire rockin' setlist without having to actually do all the "work". Because, as you're well aware, having to play the game through completion in order to unlock all songs is so 2007.

Thankfully, Harmonix included a "game modifier" option where, with a few presses of the colorful guitar buttons, players can alter the game including a modifier that unlocks the entire setlist. Simply make your way to the RB2 game modifier screen and enter the sequence -
Spoiler:
Red, Yellow, Blue, Red, Red, Blue, Blue, Red, Yellow, Blue.
Tada! Instant setlist unlock! You rebel.
Chris

RichC2 09-15-08 05:32 PM

Yup, same code as RB1.

mrpayroll 09-15-08 06:03 PM

I don't have either one.... yet!

Chris

dvdsteve2000 09-15-08 06:22 PM

How is it that everyone seems to have the 'Open Europe' achievements, which I don't have, but I have the Middle & Western USA ones, which it seems not alot of people have? Does playing certain gigs/songs lead you different ways? I've played an assload of songs and still can't get to Europe. Hell, this guy has the Eastern Europe, Western Europe, and UK achievements, but doesn't have middle & east coast USA.

Liver&Onions 09-15-08 06:24 PM

Depends on your starting city/Hometown, because if you start in Paris - there's no chance you'll get any US trips until you own a plane. :)

Oh, OK... wow do I feel stupid now. I guess that makes sense. I've always started in New York, so the game always seemed the same to me.

Lame-ass announcement from Harmonix regarding the 20 free songs and Jukebox Mode:

First off, thank you to all of you who've bought Rock Band 2 and are online playing the 84 master tracks that came with the game! As promised, Harmonix will be delivering 20 songs of free DLC to customers who buy Rock Band 2. This content will be available later this fall. Stay tuned for news re: official release date for these tracks.

Combined with our consistent download offering of songs, albums and packs, we're continuing to deliver on our promise of bringing alot of music out there weekly for the Rock Band platform. By the end of 2008, there will be over 500 songs across Rock Band (RB1 Disc, RB2 Disc and DLC).

We hope this answers your questions about the free tracks. We'll be announcing the exact tracks as we get closer to the release date. In the meantime, we hope you're enjoying working through the epic RB2 tracklist!

Lastly, some folks have been asking about the status of the previously discussed Jukebox Mode. This mode was removed from Rock Band 2 in the final stages of development. We have no immediate plans to bring this feature back to the platform in the future.

Hope this clears up any confusion!

aktick 09-15-08 07:13 PM

Man...these guys really should shut their traps. They always tell us there are going to be all these great features, only to later announce, "Oops, not happening for the foreseeable future." I'd feel sorry for them if they weren't digging the hole for themselves.

Shagrath 09-15-08 07:19 PM

While the exclusion of Juke-Box mode really sucks, I didn't expect the 20 free tracks until closer to the launch of the PS3 version anyways.

The user-base is already fragmented enough, and that would just be a further kick to the balls for PS3 users if we got an additional 20 DLC tracks that they didn't have access to. At least now, they can still get the weekly DLC (even if it is 2 days late :burn: ).

CKMorpheus 09-15-08 07:23 PM

I don't understand how hard it would be to implement Jukebox Mode... Maybe it has more to do with licensing or music companies?

Sucks about the 20 free songs, but I can wait.

Tuscadero! Velocity Girl! that dog.! The Rondelles! Fuzzy! Visqueen! Unrealistic choices all, sure, but it'd make me happy. I'm thrilled that they dropped in even one Go-Go's song. I'd buy "Beauty and the Beat" in a heartbeat if they had that as a full album download.

RichC2 09-15-08 09:20 PM

I think my favorite "easy on expert" drum song so far in is White Wedding, not too many song so far that make use of all the drums like that haha, fast, easy, all over. Good times.

I must have missed it, but what WAS Jukebox mode supposed to be?

Really? That one bored me to death on Hard. I felt like I was hitting the yellow pad for an eternity and then some.

That's happened to me a few times (boring on Hard, fun on Expert). I can't beat Everlong on expert so I started a 4 song set on Hard instead and had to quit out (off Hungry Like the Wolf) due to sheer boredom, though Expert isn't a huge improvement on that one. Mostly on white wedding, it was just relaxing to play, still focuses a lot on the yellows though.
