Agree with Geometry Wars 2 in number one.

Peggle is missing of course. :p

I must be the one person that doesn't enjoy Peggle.

ANYWAY, here would be my list, last twelve months.

10. Braid (placeholder position since I haven't started it yet)
09. Mega Man 9
08. The Maw
07. Outrun Online Arcade
06. Cyber Troopers Virtual-On Oratorio Tangram
05. Uno Rush
04. Galaga Legions
03. Castle Crashers
02. Bionic Commando Rearmed
01. Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2

Assuming that Braid moves to my Top Five, Summer of XBLA was fucking EPIC.

 Just outside the '12 month' window. Perhaps on a best of 2008 instead?

Oh yes, definitely. There were a lot of early 2008 titles I was a little sad that I couldn't put on the list. Ikaruga, Trigger Heart Exelica, N+, Rez HD, Omega Five, etc. Poker Smash, while not a purchase for me would probably get a mention from a lot of people too.

Shitty: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/ar...s-hidden-costs

This week's Xbox Live Arcade offering Arkanoid Live! may include a hidden charge that users must pay in order to finish the game.

Microsoft asks for 800 Microsoft Points (GBP 6.80 / EUR 9.60) for Arkanoid Live!, but Xbox.com forum members (as well as Eurogamer readers and posters on the Major Nelson blog) claim this only covers episodes one and two, and that a further 400 MSP (GBP 3.40 / EUR 4.80) is needed to unlock episodes three and four.

The "Full Game - Arkanoid Live!" listing on XBLA only mentions the initial 800 MSP charge.

We've contacted Microsoft to comment.

That would be pretty crappy. I can't imagine paying $10 for Breakout, let alone $15.

Shocking.

Re: XBLA Thread Part thrizzee (3)

I have a version of Breakout on my ipod for free. I've played it once. It's not a game with great depth -- it harkens back to a time when that was the ONLY type of game to play. If people think it's worth 800 points to them, that's fine. But if they think they're getting the full game and it turns out they're not, then that's misrepresentation and just plain wrong. There's no reason I can think of why all the game's simplistic levels can't be included on the Full Game download. Do you disagree, Pixy?

Calling Arkanoid breakout is simplistic at best.

The point of the story was that the demo teased 4 episodes right there on the screen. I would have been fucking pissed if I was only given half of what I expected. I am further from buying it now.

Sorry. I meant SUPER Breakout. ;)

Why don't any of the reviews mention this?

The only way I'd get Arkanoid is if it came with a free paddle controller.

I played the demo for Zombie Wrangler last night and it is not fun. I can see how they thought it was gonna be fun but lost it's way.

Yup, that game is a mess.

360voice numbers are finally up now. They show pretty much what you'd expect:
Space Invaders Extreme : 641 (modest hit)
Arkanoid Live : 271 (not spectacular, but not total dud)
Zombie Wrangler : 110 (bomb)

I bought Space Invaders, which is awesome and Zombie Wranglers (which I haven't played). ZW is probably as bad as the reviews claim (or worse), but I'll support pretty much any zombie games and I won't miss $10.

Gotta respect representing Zombies....I guess.

For me, I'd rather go with Burn Zombies Burn on the PS3 or Plants vs Zombies on the PC.

I don't "get" the love for Peggle either.

I don't play on the PC or download PSN games. I'm 99% 360/Wii with a few PS3 exclusives, but I wouldn't download from PSN. I'd rather stick with Live, which has a better interface and download speeds. I'm pretty impulsive with the XBLA titles, $10-20 a pop is cheap enough to impulse buy whatever.

I only play ports/remakes. That's probably weird but I feel like the XBLA is only good for nostalgia.

XBLA Deal of the Week for 5/11:

Brain Challenge for 400 points (50% off)

Any reviews? Might be something the girls will like to play.

Decker 05-11-09 09:26 AM

Re: XBLA Thread Part thrizzee (3)

Was going to post that XBLA deal as well. Not sure if it's any good, but for 400 points I might just go ahead and pick it up as long as you're not chastised for not playing daily like on the DS games.

For the first time in weeks (months?) we don't know what's coming to XBLA on this Wednesday. That probably means it's nothing good, but I'm still curious...

anyone else having problems with the connection on the Family Game Night? I find that I'm either dropping or locking up during play (especially in Scrabble)

I thought we knew it was Star Trek D-A-C and something I can't remember right now that I expected last week but then realized I was a week early on it...

ETA: Texas Cheat 'Em. Had to go back through the thread to find it.

I really love Arkanoid, but the XBL version is not it.

Re: XBLA Thread Part thrizzee (3)

Major Nelson confirms it is Star Trek D-A-C and Texas Cheat 'Em - each for 800 points.
